Yes great job...McFarland and Balisy both had two amazing snipes. Also good job marlies although they just dont have the talent of the canadians side. |

awesome team, not too many holes on that squad.
So who gave the JrC their best game in the OHL Cup? |

only a couple will play in the O next year, most will play Tier 2, Cameron will take a few on his Tier2 JrC team, and some of those will be sitting on the bench, . |

"take a few "
only allowed 2 92's.
Toffoli and Shapiro.

Brace and McNaughton will be playing in the CJHL for the Pembroke Lumber Kings.
Sarault will move back to Ottawa and play for Hawkesbury also in the CJHL.
O'Connor could be going to the OHL.
Sommerville not going anywhere.
Balisy will go to the US U17 program. |

what has Shapiro done to deserve to be one of the two 92's to play for JC tier2 ?
...oops, I forgot....it's daddy's team. The JC parent contingent must be loving that.

I would think the JC's will have a few kids drafted in the first round - or at least they should. This was far from a one man show and we will see more of them playing in O next year than people care to admit.
As far as their toughest game in this one, it was without a doubt, the 3-1 win over Ottawa 67's. That team skated well with them on the smaller pad, and used their size to their advantage to control parts of that game, and there was some great battles out there too.

41 GF that's a slick offence. Good job guys.
Goody
Also, good luck next year to the 92' age group. They have some talented young men. |

To 99.248 - what has Shapiro done to be on the Jr. A team next year?
In his minor hockey career, he's been a legitimate top 4 defenseman on more 1992 teams that have won major tournament, league, playoff and provincial championships than any other defenseman in North America. Ask any scout if knowing how to win is a valuable trait. He has also worked his ass off and improved steadily over the past couple of years.
What have any of the defensemen on any of the other 1992 teams in the GTA ever done?
If you don't like it, then you too can go ahead and start a business from scratch and sell it for a billion dollars, and then your son can play wherever YOU want.

"What have any of the defensemen on any of the other 1992 teams in the GTA ever done?
- certain GTA defensemen will make the U17 Ontario team but he won't....simple as that. Why ?
'cause Daddy's wallet is powerless in this case (finally !)
"If you don't like it, then you too can go ahead and start a business from scratch and sell it for a billion dollars, and then your son can play wherever YOU want."
- great comeback !
BOTTOM LINE:
The kid's a decent D (works hard, part of a winning team, blah, blah, blah, etc.) but nowhere near one of the top in the GTHL. It's disappointing that he will leap frog in place of many other more deserving/talented 1992's into a Tier 2 team next season simply because his Dad owns the team.
The HS strategy of buying a team at the GTHL and Tier 2 Jr. A levels for the sake of guaranteeing a spot for his son is pretty mind boggling to the casual observer.
What's next - Does HS cut a cheque to purchase an OHL team in a couple of years or does he make a big fat donation to an NCAA Div. 1 school ('cause last time I checked you just can't you go out and buy a NCAA school) ?
Keep your wallet in your pants and just let the kid play.

Get used to it buddy.
Not the first time this has happened (see >50% present Tier II teams), cetainly not the last.
If your kid makes Tier II at some point, you will see what I mean; & it doesn't just involve team owners and their kids. Lots of ways to get your kid more ice by 'helping the team out' monetarily. |

Thanks for the life lesson, buddy, but I never said that this is the first time nor the last time. The HS story is just the latest and outright more obvious.

ZS will end up at an Ivy League school. Decent D-man and a good student. Leave the kid alone. As for first rounders...they will have 5 at the minimum, Mcfarland, Smith-Pelly, Tofolli, Mcnaughton and O'Connor. |

Stevie I hope Shapiro doesn't know you slept with the Holy Grail.
Great year, fond memories and good luck to all.
Never let the dream die in these boys.
With Russia and Europe opening up their own leagues,
anything is possible.
Now if only we can get rid of the little dictator Betman... |

Since we are talking about congrats to the Junior Canadiens, I feel we should give credit where credit is due. Kevin D built the foundation for the success of this team. Sure players came and went after Kevin had left, but the core always remained the same. The style of play was instilled in these kids by Kevin at a young age. The present coaching staff were merely caretakers of a
Kevin's legacy. Lets all hope Kevin gets back in the game and brings us another team like the Junior Canadiens. |

Yes...there was a pic taken of the original six at the end of the game and KD was very instrumental in their development. He was around for those very important learning years and many thanks should be sent to him! |

Jr.Canadiens the class of the 92's can't take that away from them, it started with KD handing over the foundations to Cameron who coasted with popcorn and candy in hand and one of the worst personalities in minor hockey ever and will never be surpassed, but the JR.C are to be congratulated on for bringing dan good hockey to the 92 loop- Good luck to all the Jr.C in your future careers. |

My son and I watched this team for the first time 2 years ago in Whitby at the silver stick, since then we have followed them and watched them play when we can, we saw the semi's on the weekend. Great team kind of sorry to see it end, good luck. |

The JR Cdns would not stad a chance against a strong AAA team from Alberta |

ya they wud alberta teams dont buy players from around the continent |

After all the years that the 92 JrCs have spent being the acknowledged preeminent team why does this guy throw down the glove now? There was plenty of opportunity to find a way to face them before they dispersed to junior. Geez, I'm no JrC fan but that's just childish. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Congrats Jr Cdns | May 23 2008, 11:43 PM |
That's why they have the U17's boys and girls. Hasn't Ontario won it the last two years? Are you suggesting that Alberta is stronger at this age? They were not at the 90 and 91 ages. So this is a strong age group out west then? Time will tell. But I will say this. The JrC's were a powerhouse team that rival the more dominant teams over the years in where I would rank them. Hey, if the teams out west are that strong then our world junior prospects are looking strong for years to come that's for sure. And THAT is a good thing!

lets see how these jr. c players do this year, when they are just another
number and have to earn their icetime. quite a change for a some of these
kids who have been given everything over the years. i think it means more
to the kids who make it who had to earn everything like D.S. of the jr c |

Anonymous (no login) | Re: Congrats Jr Cdns | May 25 2008, 6:08 PM |
According to that theory I (upon winning the next Super 7) should simply find fifteen kids who can sort of skate, hand them all hockey can give them, then wait for the trophies to roll in. Personal drive, ability and coaching apparently don't mean a lick around the arenas. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: Congrats Jr Cdns | May 26 2008, 8:47 AM |
That's so true and I could not have said it any better myself!
The season and minor hockey for most of them is over. They won everything a team could possibly want to win and had 14 of 16 kids drafted off their roster. Out of the top ten kids taken across North America, 40% came from their team and that could have been 50% had Balisy wanted to go the OHL route. Every forward taken except Swartz and that was a mistake on someone's part, every defenceman taken and one of the goalies. Who plays next year, is up to them now, but I can't see the first rounders not playing and some of the second rounders.
Were there politics on this team...100% yes! But what team does not have them? Ask the Mariles, TRW, Elgin, YSE, Belle Tire, Ottawa 67's. Like DC or not, he got it done with a great group of kids and it's not always easy coaching a team with more than one or two great players.
Best of luck to all draftees and lets put this thread to rest now. | |
