Thunder Bay - How did it go? Who stood out? Highlights?

I saw the whole thing, i found it very hard to stand out, each team had 4 lines, 15 min. period, a forward would probably average 9 shifts a games, and playong with all the best players, hard to stand out.

Players that looked good to me were...
Carrick (stepped up huge, looks like he really wants it)
Toffoli (Along with his scoring, I saw a a physical aspect brought to his game)
Gudbranson (A force with his reach, and awareness)
Mort (Always going 100%, good shot)
Vickers (biggest surprise, looks to be regaining old form, some of the biggest hits of the weekend, and he appears to be one of the most liked players by all)....i dont think he'll make the team but he just seems like a player everyteam has gotta have..

these are just a few, overall i know my son had a great time, and it looked to be run pretty smoothly, the only issue was i believe many kids arrived later than others and missed a couple things, but other than that, awesome weekend!! good luck to all!

Cheers

ps- does any body know if there is any more cuts, does it know go to a list of 40, or does everone still have a chance

How did the McFarland do? Was he a non-factor, like the GTHL U17 camp.

They don't just look at game play. You are right 20 kids not much time on the ice. But they watched that all year. Really watching behaviour off the ice and whether you complain when somebody tells you to do something ie. short shifts, play wing, don't cheat on tests, too arrogant, etc.

mcfarland was a non factor, when i watched him he was brutal. he also two handed a player in the back and two handed the goalie for team white in the back of the legs!

Immature this McFarland is, hopefully he will learn before its too late. I have seen many players fail because of a lack of maturity. I think he needs to learn what his priorities are in life. Hockey is about remain composed, and performing under ANY conditions. In hockey you are only as good a your last shift. I just hope McFarland wakes up and smells the coffee before its too late.

What kind of tests did they give at the camp?

Highlights- The porn presentation the kids got.
Low-lights- Mcfarland costing his team a win in the first game with a two hander that gained him a 5 and game ejection.

Good hockey for the most part. Second game on day two a little slow due to an early morning game followed by a mid afternoon practice.

Tips for the Ottawa group next year...Make sure kids over 6 feet can fit in the beds and that they are not rock hard.

This team will be very good, with a mixture of skill, size, speed and bashers. How quickly they gel in BC will be up to them.

do you really think that an 8th round pick has any chance of making the team? All they want from the 60 that do not make the team is their $ to pay for the 24 that go to BC.
Wake up folks.

99.246.37.148 That's excatly what I did!! I took all the first rounders...who by the way...did not disapoint. Then I took the others that looked good and were fairly high picks.
Do you think any players from round lower than 3 are going to make the team. Second rounders were sitting around in their houses this weekend, as they did not even make the second cut.
Their will be no surprises...from later round picks no matter how well they played for a weekend.

The regional selection process really screws this thing up.
Invite only the top players from Ontario not just the regions.
Still have the regionals but if the talent is not there why
water the whole thing down.

Problem is that the coaches, agents and parents that promoted the players don't see it that way. They really believe they should be there. They don't think there is much difference between the top 10 players and the rest of them.

Hey 68.179.111.201

Are you on a fishing expedition or what. "you recently got a letter."

I think your Ip address is from Bass Pro Shop!

Let's see, your Son must be a Super Star, and Hockey Ontario doesn't want to miss out on him. The Coaches, exhausted after a long 4 days, get back home on Monday, hurry to the Post Office, to make certain your letter gets out, because they realize the potential of your Child, and fear the letter could be delayed by the fact Tuesday was a National Holiday, and Canada Post isn't working. Must be nice to be popular....So you received the letter Wedeneday or Thursday, and now your telling us about it today.

Right.....

Why don't you simply tell us what the letter says, and we'll help you determine what it means.

Where they asking for your Son's Blazer size too?

All players did not receive letters. They shortlisted it to 35 players and only those that made that list got a letter. Maybe there was a thank-you letter sent out to others.

If Hockey Canada did away with the short list it was probably for the better. I never understood its purpose...I mean the best players at the time of the tournament should play! People's stocks rise and fall prior to the tournament, and frankly with all of the premadonnas in this age group I think certain players stocks will fall incredibly, while others will rise substantially. Long winded...moral of the story keep working hard somebody is always watching!

everyone received letters from what I was told from a Dad who's kid attended. I guess they want to make sure they did'nt over look some players or it was to tough a decision. It's easier to make the decisions in November and take the guess work out of it.

""Trevor McGee, goalie from Timmins is one that made the short list.

he didnt get drafted cause he is not good goalie, look at his stats:
http://www.gnml.org/stats/?Season_ID=5

The only reason he went to Thunder Bay is because the 2 top goalies out of the North were leading their team to a National Championship. (Noel and Mcdougall) Mcdougall however got a wild card because he could not participaate in the local tryout. Noel should have received a excemption as well but he definately got the short end of the stick
