Many area kids headed to Boston next week for the Jr. Chowder Cup.

Over 80 teams. Exellent competition and amazing exposure to NCAA and NHL scouts

Been there done that, another summer money grab. Good Business for the coaches running these teams, some extra cash in their pockets and we all flock like sheeps year after year, myself included.

Actually, for any 92's interested, I'm having a 3 on 3 tourney on my driveway next week.
A buddy of mine who works part-time as an usher at the ACC is dropping by to have a peek (he once had a coffee with an assisant scout for the leafs)

Hey, ya never know !

22 Brackets 4 teams in each = 88 teams

88 x roster of 15 + 2 = 17 = 1320 players 176 goalies

guarantee of the 3 games

CHA CHING!

Not to be a basher , but if you check out the rosters for the 92 division, there are not many at all top players going a handfull of drafted players, very lack lustre teams and whats with all the teams with all the 1993 and some 1994's on the teams. Like the ING commercial, "Save your money"

This is a very weak supported tournament, looks like alot of players have taken a pass on this one. Just curious what these teams or coaches are charging a player to attend this tournament.? Based on the website looks like you get 3 games, and then only a top bracket winner advances, seems like minimal hockey, but I guess it depends on what you get for your dollar

What's with the football scores in this tournament and blow outs, no wonder the scouts take a pass on this money grab, are you kidding me!

Agree - some very one sided scores. Appears to be a large but very watered down Tournament. Check the Team Lists - only a sprinkling of "better" players. I hope the players and their families enjoy the "Boston experience" rather than what this expensive (B) Tournament has to offer. LOL

what a waste of time, competition was terrible , one game a day , 3 games unless we made it to the play-off round, made it finals but still not worth the money, drive down. No scouts that we could find, NCAA scouts well a few guys who called themselves scouts but didn't see any watching the games, basically a few local area teams said that scouts are all gone away and don't waste their time here. GREAT, 84 teams, what a cash grab. I can say that Boston and surrounding areas are very nice and scenic, other than that should have stayed home.

Exactly. We were asked to join at least 3 of the teams that went down and each one looked like a way for the coach to make some money. You would think that after all these years parents would have figured it out. You can get a division 1 scholarship without ever leaving Toronto.

I guess it all depends on how you look at things. My kid went for the experience on and off the ice. He had a great time. Didn't move out of division, however played for a knowledgeable coach, made new friends from teams he never would have had the opportunity to make, was congratulated on his play by other coaches (Tier II and OHL from near here), got to see a great city. The cost was fairly reasonable considering what you got. Transportation to and from Boston, 4 nights in hotel (hotel was charging close to $200/night for rooms if you weren't with the team), team meal, 3 practices. Will he have an NCAA or NHL contract/offer from this - absolutely not. Your expectations have to be realistic. Personally, we thought it was a great opportunity.

Exactly not everything in Hockey is about signing an NHL contract. Believe it or not some people do it for FUN. What a thought!
