I just checked my e-mail and read this one from Robert. I don't think he will mind me sharing it with you. We should all pray diligently for them.
Since most of you are relatives and the others are church family, friends, etc. I will spare you the gory details and just say that Carolyn came home on Sat. Feb. 18, 2006 after a stay in Norton Community Hospital and surgery to repair her broken arm. Now, that doesn't sound too bad at first but let me tell you how it was broken and where. She fell last Sun. on some ice and hit on her elbow which broke her upper arm at the shoulder and just above the elbow. We went through the ER @ Dickenson Community Hospital on the way to Norton Community for surgery. The surgeon repaired the breaks by putting a "Y" plate & screws at the elbow break and putting in two pins and a long screw at the shoulder. Since he only fills in for Dr. Danny Mullins on weekends when Dr. Mullins is off we didn't see him any more after the surgery. She spent Monday, Monday night and most of Tue. in intensive care as a precautionary measure. Upon being moved to a room, she spent Tue. night through Sat. morning trying to cope with the pain. Her brother, Larry, had a similar injury about 5 years ago and said that it was the most painful thing he had endured. Carolyn says that it is more painful than childbirth. She is unable to lie down in the bed even with elevation and spent the night in a recliner last night. The pain is a bit better with the pain medication.
Dr. Mullins described the break at the elbow as if a bomb had exploded leaving numerous fragments of bone, some of which were removed with the larger ones being secured by the "Y" plate and screws. He has told us that it "will take months, not weeks of recovery with the healing process and then therapy."
Keep us in your prayers and continue to pray for me as Cassie is having surgery on her foot on March 2, 2006 and will be laid up for about 6 weeks also. She won't be able to bear any weight on the foot for about four weeks.
