So good to have you on here with us. Hope you'll communicate with us often. I'm enjoying all the posts on here about your small schools. Living close to town, I went to Clintwood Elem. I walked there and back for years, even in first grade. I can't believe that now...I'd never let a first grader walk alone, but it was so different back then...safer. BTW, we only went to school 1/2 day that year for first grade. It must have been because we had such a large class. I went in the afternoon. I still have a personalized Christmas stocking from my first grade teacher, and I've tried every year to give my kids one too that I made or got a helpful parent to make. I think last year was the first time ever that I didn't make them...bought them instead. I don't seem to be able to manage my time as well these days as I used to. The talk about President Kennedy... I was in Edna Coe's sixth grade classroom, and the announcement was made over the intercom. One of my best friends was Mary Rowland. She moved away after the 7th grade, so I'm not sure how many of you remember her. Jenni, Robert and Henry do, I'm sure. Anyway, she was Catholic and I thought that made her have a special bond with him. I remember she and I walking down the hallway to the bathroom, crying. He was my hero for years, and I was so amazed at all the tragedy in his family through the years, even to the death of his son. My heroic thoughts of him dulled somewhat with the stories of Marilyn Monroe and he and Bobby. I don't think our country was ever the same after he died. It's like we had so much hope and idealism. I can't say much positive about Ted, that's for sure.
