is a gourmet coffee variety available at Food City (should have told me something). I bought it because my husband loves specialty coffee, and I had a $2 coupon. Anyway, it was a glorified Maxwell House, or at least that's my estimation. Guess we'll have to go further afield for the good stuff. Occasionally, Jim orders green coffee beans from Sweet Maria's in California when he wants to get serious about his morning brew. He has ground his own for several years, just recently got into roasting. I banished the roaster to the garage, the smell is nice at first, but lingers way too long.
Personally, I swig unsweetened iced tea by the gallon, adding some peppermint tea bags to liven up the regular blend.
So, what beverage do you guys like to relax with?

always nice to have visitors to the site. I've been busy running Jim's errands, feeding the wildlife, and fetching and carrying for him. He nailed himself in the knee yesterday. Most people step on rusty nails, he stepped on the other end of the board--which promptly brought the sharp end up and into the knee. It came out on its own, but we spent a good part of the evening (home at 2 a.m.) in the ER. He had to have an exray, a tetanus shot, a pain shot, and an IV antibiotic. So now he's on crutches because the knee is swollen and stiff and difficult to stand on, but not broken, thankfully...which gives me the job of doing his running for him. Never know how much a good husband does until he can't do it for a while.

Oh,my goodness! It sounds like you and he had a time! Tell him we said to hurry and get better! I know he is in a lot of discomfort. I have a fractured foot and have been up with it for a bit now.lol Do you all have quiet a few deer over at your house...we sure do here! Been to the Monterrey again lately...I think we are needing to go again. lol
Posted on Jul 26, 2008, 7:30 PM from IP address 71.171.26.249
about Monterrey. We got to go last Friday, before Jim's infamous adventure. I always enjoy it.
There's one at Pikeville I actually like better, La Fiesta. Most of the time it's too much time, trouble, and gas to go there. If you're up that way for other reasons, give them a try. They beat out Monterrey on everything but fajitas--those are best at Wise.
Jim has graduated to a cane now, he hobbled out and filled his squirrel and bird feeders himself today. Nothing like boredom to motivate you to improve.

I have saw that restaurant when being in Pikeville...haven't tried it yet but I think we will next time we are up that way! I love mexican food! We are real glad that Jim is improving too!

Remember when teachers wanted us to write about what we did on vacation? It was funny, most of us had no idea what an actual vacation was back then.
So, how about now?
Most of my summer has been spent indoors, since I attract every insect in a mile radius when I go
out, and look like I have measles from all their love bites... And I read where DEET, the main ingredient in most insect repellants, will melt plastic. Does not give me a great deal of confidence for slathering it on!
Our quickie vacation this year was to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We walked on the beach, went to the Wright Brothers Museum, saw the Lost Colony drama, visited a botanical garden and a lighthouse, and ate a ridiculous amount of fresh seafood--all in about 60 hours total, including driving time.
So, boys and girls, what have you been up to?
Posted on Jul 11, 2008, 8:51 PM from IP address 216.145.85.88
Hi there, Well I am still spending, (not money K) my summer...After the VA trip, we have been working hard along with a couple of picnics and some walleye fishing. I am really get better at that but I refuse to bait my hook (UGH) unless we are fishing with artificial bait. My husband was busy fishing and didn't have time to bait my hook, so I stuck part of weiner on it and caught the first fish. Guess I showed him...jk..anyway that's about it my friends. Take care and K you are so very special to us.

Your fishing trips sound like fun. I haven't been on one in more than 30 years. I caught the bigger fish, and somehow I didn't get invited back. Jim gave away his fishing equipment. His big project right now is working on a decrepit old pickup truck. The more he fixes, the more goes wrong, but he loves it. Me, I'm keeping the air conditioner company!

Well, I actually just got back from Surfside, South Carolina where I spent 3 days with my mom and one of my sisters. We didn't do a whole lot...did go down and walk on the beach one day and to the pool one day. Went to a good flea market and watched a lot of movies. My best thing this summer was going to New York City with my oldest son. He is a huge Cincinnati Reds fan and we went to 2 games that they played against the New York Yankees in the Yankees stadium which will be torn down after this season. The first game, we were up so high, that I couldn't even look down, but the second one, we had really good seats, about 6 rows back behind home plate. My son took some great pictures and it was exciting. And I got to wear my Reds "crocs". We also went to a New York Mets/Seattle Mariners game at the Mets stadium. In between the games, we did a lot of sight seeing and rode the subway several times and walked a lot! The best thing we did was to get on a double decker tour bus which took us all over town...one that you could hop on and hop off at various points of interest. Our tickets were good for 48 hours, and we also took the night tour...beautiful with the lights. We went up in the Empire State Building, took the ferry to Staten Island and saw the Statue of Liberty, but was disappointed because we couldn't go up in it. I had been to NYC once before, but he hadn't. I want to go back someday and see a Broadway play and a few other things. It was a good trip, a lot of fun and I enjoyed the time with my son. So I have to say that I've had a good summer, but it's going by too fast and school will start before we know it!

neither time. So sometimes I have to go places and leave him here! He doesn't like Disney World either, and that's one of my favorite places to go. I guess it'll be a long time before I ever go there again. I'll have to wait for some grandchildren to come along and then go along as a baby-sitter!
Posted on Jul 18, 2008, 12:30 AM from IP address 151.199.121.126
I just love crocs. I have all colors, I tried to get Billie(sis) to get her a pair, but her comment to me was "now Linda you know I don't wear ugly things." Doesn't that sound just like Billie. Sounds like you had a wonderful time!
Posted on Jul 17, 2008, 10:07 PM from IP address 69.254.108.101
I only have one other pair, navy ones. I think they are basically ugly, but comfortable, altho I didn't think so at first. They had to "grow on me". At the flea market last week, I even bought 4 of the little things that snap into them. They were cheap/2 for $1.00, so I bought 4 that sort of represent things that are important to me or represent me. My sister, Ginger, volunteers at Johnson City Medical Center one day per week, and she said they couldn't keep them because the nurses buy them up so fast. Now my sister-in-law, nurse Phyllis, says the nurses can't wear them anymore because of the holes in them.
Posted on Jul 18, 2008, 12:26 AM from IP address 151.199.121.126
I've been debating whether or not to get some, maybe I will. My rheumatologist was wearing them today, so that's a good recommendation. My husband even got a pair to wear as house shoes, but he would not be caught in public thus shod.
Posted on Jul 18, 2008, 11:34 PM from IP address 216.145.85.5
get a pair and try them. At first, I didn't care a whole lot for them, but here lately, I've begun to like them and this summer, they seem to be my shoe of choice. Hey Patti, as a nurse, have you tried them? I also seem to remember that you are a shoe "freak". What's your opinion?
Posted on Jul 19, 2008, 10:09 PM from IP address 151.199.121.126
Well professionally, they have a great support but we also cannot wear anything with holes and cannot wear slingback shoes. Style wise, its has to have a least a 2+ inch heel to make the calves of your legs look attractive. Okay, that's it for vanity and pride... I had a lady stop me in Chicago O'Hare to compliment me on my shoes, They were black patent with a black and white checkered sole and 3 inch heel. Yes I had blisters but they matched my outfit. Gotta love me.... That's it from the fashion police in Douglas, WY

My spring fever has become summer sickness, with a big case of laziness, I guess. Just waiting for the mood to strike--but I may have to be struck big time to get moving...
Watched the parade Friday, but couldn't stay up for the fireworks. They used to say "my get up and go, has got up and went," now I know what they were talking about.
Posted on Jul 6, 2008, 6:52 PM from IP address 216.145.85.56
you and I may have the same "sickness". I've gotten pretty lazy too, and I have so much I need to do. We missed the parade, unfortunately, but that was during the moving process. BTW, sorry that I keep misspelling your name. I keep getting you, Kay, and the other Kaye turned around...never can remember which one of you spell your name which way.

I really feel bad about not getting in touch. There's just too much going on. We're still trying to get our son Danny moved to the Kingsport area. Still have some furniture to move, as well as clothes, shoes and odds and ends. Danny, Sr. and I have decided that the next time he moves, he's going to have to get someone else to do it! We're getting too old for this tugging and pulling and lifting! I do hope you enjoyed your stay. Maybe some of us can get together the next time you come in. Know your trip back has been frustrating...with fuel prices the way they are, the airline business is going to be really affected, as well as all of us. Take care, and keep posting.

getting older and older....? Inside me, I'm still that same grade school kid that used to make home-made lolipops for running for Halloween queen, but my body and even my forgetful mind here lately tell me differently!

all about that aging thing, since we are all nearly as old as you.
Plan to try a new Java Jolt to see if it will help any: picked up a pound of Henry's Blend coffee at Food City the other day (Seattle's Best). We'll let you know after we grind up a brew, may be the pick me up we've been looking for.

Pam was in for a few days this week and we had lunch with Kathy today. She has had tests done and thankfully there is no blockage in the arteries to her heart. That is a huge relief for her and her loved ones. Her eyesight in her eye has not returned completely...still about 20% tunnel vision, but she has learned to adjust. It could have been much worse. Just wanted to share the news with you. Pam is well too.

Sammy Stone's father passed away on Saturday, and his funeral was today. I'm sorry that I didn't realize it until this evening. I will send flowers to Sammy's house tomorrow. If any of you hear of someone's family member's passing, post it hear or e-mail me. With the Bristol paper no longer being delivered in our area, learning about funerals, etc. may be a little hard. I don't know Sammy's updated address...just know it used to be Rt. 3. If I find out, I'll let you know, as some of you may want to send a card.

Hope to see you sometime during those days. The 28th is Danny's birthday. It's also Jenni's. Don't know if she'll be around then or not. Dustin's birthday is the 30th. Will have to see how that all plays out, but sure hope to see you! Ever been to Mount Rushmore? My mom is sort of planning a trip up there for us girls (my sisters). I know it's a very long drive, but some place I've always wanted to visit. Any info. about hotels, restaurants, etc.? BTW, we have Bible School this coming week. I'm teaching the 3rd and 4th graders. Freddie, would love to have your girls to come. You might be able to arrange the van to provide transportation. Call 926-4844, and that's at Clintwood Baptist on Main Street. You all pray for a good week and souls won. There are several churches having VBS the same week...Valley View, I think Mike's church, Clintwood Bible.

Pamela Fletcher Robinson died last night/morning at 12:25 a.m. This is my brother Ray's wife. They have been married 33 years and Pam was 51. Their son Derick had his colon removed in March from colon cancer and will begin chemo treatments in June. Please remember them and all of us. It has been a hard week and we do need your prayers.

Shame on me, but I have no other excuse to give for not having been on here. I keep thinking that I will have more time in my life now that our kids are all grown and gone but it hasn't happened that way at all. Matter of fact, I see my life passing faster and faster! We all need to slow down, don't we!
Anyway, just wanted to inform those that might remember one of our classmates "Poochie" Kleta Faron Mullins/King (she still goes by Pooch) is in Clintwood this weekend. If anyone would like to visit with her they can call me at 926-4783.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day. I did, and needed the lift it gave me. My sons and daughter-in-law sent me some flowers, and a really neat gift. Our son Danny is a big Cincinnati Reds fan, and I am too. We try to go up at least once a summer. Anyway, my gift was a pair of red Crocs shoes with the Cinn. logo on them. I think they're so neat and funny. Maybe we'll have to have a contest at our next reunion to see who can wear the most unusual shoes! Dustin and Kristen didn't get to come in for Mother's Day, but will be in this coming weekend. She got her Master's Degree diploma on Saturday from Liberty University! Also Dustin just found out that he got a position on campus as a Resident Director in charge of 3 dormitories. They will live there while he finishes his Master's, and this will be good experience for him as his Bachelor's degree is in youth ministry and his Master's degree will be in Discipleship. Saturday, Danny,II (Danny Boy) will graduate from pharmacy school with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. It has been a long, hard row, and now it's coming to completion. Praise the Lord! Just wanted to share this with you, so you can rejoice with us.

Tonight I went to the funeral home. How many of you remember Sue Endicott? It was her dad who passed away. I had not seen her in many, many years. I talked to her briefly, and asked when she had left Clintwood. She told me in 1968, so she didn't graduate with us. My most vivid memory of her was 7th grade, in G.C. Stidham's classroom. I can remember our class was going to put up a Christmas tree, and some of us went to buy some ornaments and lights for it. I sort of remember going to her house on Main Street, I think it was. Seems like she got married and left, but I don't think it's the same man she is now married to. I met him and he seemed very nice. She has a daughter and 2 grandchildren. I went up to her and asked if she remembered me. She said Janice Farmer, right? I wouldn't have recognized her, and was surprised that she did me. Does anyone else remember anything else about her? Jog my memory.
