I knew most of it, but it's good to put before us again. I started reading about a natural diet and exercise in the early 80's, and often find nutrionists ahead of mainstream conventional medicine. What they were saying 25 years ago is now mainstream: Move that body as much as you can tolerate, eat moderately of close to nature foods, and keep your faith (major stress assistant). I'm good on the faith part, pretty fair on the diet most of the time, but the exercise is definitely something I need to work on. Thanks for the motivation.

Hope You and Yours are Safe, Well, and doing Great!
I agree with you about the as close to natural as possible foods.
I think the preservatives and all the artificial stuff they put in food today is part of our health problems. I bet many of us can remember relatives that lived well into their 80's and 90's. They grew up eating bacon and eggs with gravy and biscuits for breakfast. They ate hardy meals. The thing was they worked hard and they grew most of what they ate, no preservatives added other than salt, sugar, or smoke cured.
I do not smoke or use tobacco products, but my Great Grandma Emminar(she was the sweetest) smoked a corn cob pipe(visions of Lil' Abner) and chewed Bull of the Woods and lived over 100 years, so maybe it is what they put in stuff today that is part of the problems we have with health issues.
My Aunt Oakly cooked on a cast iron stove, drew her water out of the well, and heated her home by fireplaces until she was into her 70's, and when her children moved her into a nice new home with central heat, plumbing, and all the other amenities she did not know what to do with herself; but she eventually adjusted.
Anyway, I guess the point of it is our fast paced life style.
Sorry I rambled on so long.
Take Care,
Dan

Was Auntie Oakley a good shot? Sorry, couldn't resist!
Thanks for the good wishes. We are doing well enough, trying to keep the flu at bay and stay warm, and planning a little winter getaway to Gatlinburg for a conference-if the flu or the flu doesn't overrule.

My birthday is October 28. If you want to know what year; it's every year. Well at least it has been for the last 56 years. I don't yet know about 57.
I found out last week that I've had a heart attack, for real. I always thought I'd be the first to know. The doctor tells me not to worry though, I'll more than likely die of something else. He didn't say how much sooner or what else. No need to worry!

What the heck is going on? Did you not have symptoms, was there any damage done, are you doing rehab? Please let me know and cute comment about your birthday every year. You are wise for you age
Posted on Feb 23, 2008, 1:54 PM from IP address 71.32.137.253
Actually, I thought I was old for my age instead of wise. I did not have any symptoms except for some mild chest pain for the last few months and it isn't severe. I saw a cardiologist yesterday and he will do some tests to see what, if anything needs to be done.
I don't smoke, chew or drink, I exercise, my blood pressure is good, but my cholesterol is a little high. All in all I'm in pretty fair health. I don't expect any real issues.
How is Wyoming? I hope to be back out there in April.
Happy Trails

Did you do any fishing while you were there or are there only certain times when you fish there? Do you ever hunt there? I guess how long you stay at a time has a lot to do with it.

I do like to hunt and fish when I have the opportunity. I trout fish the Platte and bear hunt near Buffalo in the spring. The only prolem is that our trips don't leave much room for extra curricular activity anymore.

Hi Mike,
Do you hunt around the Florence Canyon or Paint Rock Creek areas, or North of 16 in the Big Horns?
I have a friend in Toledo that plans his year around his bear hunting trips to Canada, he is also very active in Duck Unlimited.
Do you still hunt at home?

Does anyone have anything planted yet? I want to, but I'm hindered. The men in my life (husband and brother) finally built me planting beds around the front of my house last fall, that I had been asking for several years. One insurmountable problem--they have not yet put dirt in them. It's a little hard to plant without it! Also, dearly beloved continues to increase his quest to see that all the wildlife in our neighborhood is well fed. Have a feeling if I do get to plant, the wild creatures will get more benefit than me. Oh well--has anyone else done any better?

We have been a little sad around here. My Son and his Wife have had some sadness with the loss of her Grandmother and a miscarriage, they had been so excited about having a baby.
I hope Patti and Dan did not get trampled by Antelope or lost in those ravines. I hope they took flint and tender.

as of yesterday, I am actually moving up to a supervisor position at Commerce County Hospital in the Trauma department. I am looking forward to that. And Yes it is windy, horrible, what gives? The other day I saw 5 antelope run down the street right in front of my house. Don't they know they are suppose to be on the plain and believe me, here almost everything is plain. Take care my friend, and God Bless and Keep you. And, dumb question, but are in still living in TX???? I thought you were back in VA?

You are right, it is quiet on here. Too quiet. I guess I have been busy, but honesty makes me confess it is laziness that has kept me from posting. I have been checking the board late at night most of the time and was just too tired to post. Suzzie took me out to dinner in Pikeville. Chinese! I mentioned that some of us are reminiscining about Richard and Glenn posted the story about the last time he talked with Richard before he left for Vietnam the following day. Happy Birthday to Kathy Clay Roland on February 11. My friend of many years as a child, even though, we seldon see one another our hearts and remembrance of years gone by still remains.
Happy Birthday to Robert Swindall my friend of many years. I remember being in fifth grade, Mrs Artrip's class. We were caught chewing gum that day and I received a C in conduct for that six weeks. Look at conduct, today!
Happy Birthday to Debra Mullins Creeger. My first time meeting lots of friends was in eight grade. Students came to high school from one room schools.I,myself did not know that there were schools like this. I always attended the elementary at Clintwood. First grade was half a day.I must say the students were confident of themselves. Something I never had. Debra had class, as well as others.
Happy Birthday to Lanny Large & Cathy Cummins. My friend, Lanny how could I forget Speech Class with Billy Castle. Honorable, quiet person
Cathy I always think of your sibling birthday dates on the same day. Gym class Mrs Shockey dance class.
Happy Birthday to Marlene Meade Compton a friend who has been strong will so intelligent and pretty.
I am wishing all a Happy Birthday now so that if I happen to have one of those "senior moments". I would be safe.
Thank you Judge Henry for the forum, we can keep in touch a little with our dear friends of years gone by.

Peggy I will always remember being at Helen Dickerson house for a sleep over. We were bouncing the basketball down the street and you wanted the ball so I turned and threw the ball to you and then ran right into the parking meter. I had the worst black eye. Kaye

Hi Freddie,
I hope this finds You and Yours Safe, Well, and doing Great!
When did You move and where did You move to? Hope You are getting settled in OK.
I can take the hunting and fishing but, that shopping kills me: I would rather go to the yard and tinker while they go shop. Two or three hours at a mall and I am ready to go hunt something.

I've enjoyed the exchange on hunting with Dan and Patti. I went hunting with my brothers more than 40 years ago, haven't had the urge since. If I had to bring in the meat we would all be vegetarian. The only thing I'm hunting for these days is a warm spot. Just give me my rocking chair, afghan, and fireplace, and I'm a happy camper.

Hi Kay,
I hope this finds You and all of Yours Safe, Well, and doing Great!
Good to see You posting.
I really have not hunted myself in a long time but I started teaching my kids gun safety when they were young. I did take them hunting and my son still enjoys it. He takes some of his friends down to Robert Lee to deer hunt but I think he likes to turkey hunt alone (he took three this year). I enjoy taking others to hunt but, the only thing I still occasionally hunt is feral hogs. I do hunt the meat case for good brisket, ribs, and steak, and it is a lot cheaper than antelope, elk, and bear; although it is not as entertaining. I enjoy my fruits and vegetables, but if they did not have a good meat department at the store; I would have to go hunt something, I could not make it as a vegetarian.
Take Care,
Dan

I went squirrel hunting once and shot at one in a tree. I missed. I went fishing one time too. Snagged my line on some brush. Broke my line. I now prefer to go to Logan's for my steak and to Red Lobster for my fish. Something about sitting at a table or in a booth in an air-conditioned restaurant that is more to my taste than sitting in the rain or hot sun waiting on luck to strike me. Oh, and as far as being a happy camper, I went camping one time and my tent leaked. Got soaked trying to take it down in the pouring rain. I now prefer a nice warm, dry, bed in a hotel.

Hi Henry,
I hope this finds You and all of Yours Safe, Well, and doing Great!
I know what you mean. There is something about sitting at the table and relaxing while it is prepared and served that is hard to beat. It took me a while to figure that out, too (I am a slow learner). Logan's Roadhouse is one of my favorite places. I have to get my sea food on the coast somewhere (preferably Penasco). We do have some good restaurants, just not sea food.
I would still prefer to use an RV when we go somewhere but, Judy's not having any of that anymore.
Take Care,
Dan

Hi Patti,
Hope this finds You Safe, Well, and Doing Great in Your new surroundings!
The land is located approximately 15 mi West of Rawlins: You take the Riner Road exit and follow the dirt road North 7 mi. the property is on the West side of the road. It is the North East 1/4 of the Section. It runs from the North East tip of the Bluff South a 1/2 mi. and a little over a 1/2 mi. to the West of the road. I will find the Legals to send later; I have not needed them in a while. It is only a 1/4 but, the section to the East is BLM and so is the section to the North.
If You decide to hunt, send me the vital information so I can send You an authorization letter. There is some good riding; if You like to ride. There is a little Lake to the North East about 5 mi maybe. Your friend should be able to get a BLM map somewhere. Watch Out for Antelope and Don't get Trampled. You are going to need a 4X4, ATVs, or horses: to really appreciate the area. It should take about 2 and 1/2 hours from Douglas or less.
Take Care,
Dan

Hi Patti,
Thought I would pass this Satellite web site on to you (Robert Swindall sent it to me a while back), so you could get an idea of where you are going and what to expect. Zero in on Wyoming then Rawlins then Rt 789 you will see a brown crescent North of the highway the ridge line on the West of the crescent is where you are headed. I am trying to find my maps to scan and e-mail you. If my son has them I may never get them back. If your friend is not familiar with the area I suggest using a GPS.
The resolution of the images is amazing. I have used it to zero in on our different places and am astounded at what is visible. I am going to have to Thank Robert again for the info.
so much and yes DAN is interested in hunting. What vital info do you need???? Please let me know and he does know where Rawlins is located. Thanks again, my friend. And yes, Big Brother is watching. Love you

Hi Patti,
Figured he would know where Rawlins was, but I did not know if he was familiar with the area. It can be a little disorienting back in all those ravines after a while.
It should be hunting area 61 for antelope and hunting area 98 for deer. There are plenty of antelope, only a few deer. I am sure he is familiar with the draw system for permits.
Just e-mail me his full name and address.
Take Care,
Dan

Do you have the specifics on the location of the hunting area you are talking about in Rawlins? Dan would like to also take a friend. Do you have more aerial shots yet? If so can you e-mail us at hellenerose@hotmail.com? Do you have longitude/laditude of the area you are talking about or any further info concerning this area? Dan thanks for the offer as I am sure we are gonna take you up on it. My Hubby has worked in that area but he is not familiar with areas north of the interstate. Take care and God Bless. Always, Patti/Dan

My son has my old GPS so; I was going by memory on the other co-ordinates, to get you in the area.
These will put You in the approximate middle of the property.
41*51'7.76" N
107*35'15.38" W
I had already sent a letter earlier in the day on the 31st, before I saw your post. Let me know if any of the information helps or not. I also sent an e-mail with some information, let me know if it helps, also.
Take Care,
Dan

Mine said 8, and that was cold enough. I was not overly thrilled going to church yesterday with long handles under my long skirt, but I managed, and was more comfortable than the stylish. Looking forward to spring!

I'm ready for the thaw, absolutely never want to live anywhere north of here, except heaven...The city of God is " beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is Mount Zion on the sides of the NORTH, the city of the great King"... I'm sure that northern location has climate control that will make everyone happy.
At least I'm getting some decluttering done while the weather bids me stay in.
I'm having a Pot Luck Party for hubby's 60th birthday this Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church at 1 p.m. So far he doesn't have a clue. You're all welcome. If you come, bring food, if everyone shows up I'm afeard I may run out. Remember, it's a surprise.

Just a note to let you know I took the big step and moved to WY. Do I like it, HUMMMMMMMMMMM time will tell because I feel I have stepped back in time which is not all bad but I definitely don't look like the "Douglas" crowd. Cowboy boots and chewing tobacco are not my style. So here I go with my heels, skirts, and chewing gum..... Take care and it sure is windy out here in this here place. (and no Freddie or Dan, it's not because I moved here) Love to all....

Hi Patti,
Hope you are getting settled in OK. From the last post about your trip to Wyoming: this, is a surprise. I hope everything goes well and you are Happy with your new surroundings.
Do you like snowmobiling? I know, you said you do not like the cold: but, being as far North as you are, it is one of the big past times and it can be a lot of fun. They do make some very Fashionable snowmobile suits and goggles. They might even have some Louie Vuitton saddle bags!
Remember, if you pull any Marilyn poses with all that wind to watch out for photographers. And, lastly the Clintwood Posse is Ready and "Able".
Life is what you make it: Have Fun and Live It to the Fullest.
Take Care,
Dan

go snowmobiling and had fun. Afterwards they reported an avalanche shortly after we retired the slopes and trails. We went to Cheyenne, WY. Thank for the back up of the Clintwood Posse. Might just call you up. Blessings my friend.

Hi Freddie,
I just wanted to make sure we did not get our signals crossed. That girl might start some fires, we are not invited to. Do not want to end up with smoke in my eyes.
Take care,
Dan

too much alike. Where there is smoke, there is fire. I just get some strange looks occasionally from my dress style verses theirs. 75% wear cowboy boots, and 50% chew tobacco, men and women. All stores I have been into focus around western wear, that's not me.... so probably the only smoke signals you will see is if Macy's has a sale. Do You has Macy's in your area?????? thanks for the backup guys. Sounds like Cartrights to me.

Hi Patti,
Shucks now, I am sure if I said anything about the temperature raising (when you arrived); that it had nothing to do with hot air!! And, any references to wind would have been; as in Little Wyoming Whirlwind (since it could not have been " Little Texas Tornado").

been a bad moon arisin Couldn't resist but get this, The guy who lives next to me has a wolf for a pet. Uh DUH??????????????? He howls continually especially at night.... I don't know about this, I think I may become a pistol packing momma

You need to find someone to covertly get you some Panther (Cougar, Mountain Lion, or Puma they are all the same) scent. That will put and end to your wolf Problems. You will have a new neighbor shortly and there will be an American Wolf in London. If not that, I have a 100 lb Dobbie (Callie) that likes to play. She is very protective and if you borrowed her, she could put a stop to the howling one way or another. She loves my Grandchildren though, I might have to let you borrow my Wrott (Torrie) instead, she is all business.
If you decide to pack instead, we can fix you up there also. I think a revolver would be best, maybe a Colt 41cal.
We will get you some sleep and there will be peace in the Valley someway.
