sorry but Wyoming is NOT for me. I had the opportunity for a trial run and could not "giter done". I don't like stepping back in time, nor do I like the "Git alone little doggies" settings. When I actually saw a Ranch called the "Ponderosa" I knew I had come to far so plan to stay in Sioux Falls, SD. My desire is to go back into "Adolescense Chemical Dependency" either in the medical department or Counselor. I covet your prayers as I seek the place God would have me be. Thanks, love to all, and Happy Thanksgiving.

You always remember my birthday! Thanks for being my friend for all these years. You have to be a friend to have a friend. These words were spoken by you, Janice. I will always try and recollect this.
Happy Birthday to Judge Henry on November 24th!
Patty Jo Newberry also shares this date and both share this age with me!
My mother, paused, giggled, said she could not believe that her babies were in this age group. I need not say in Dickenson County what number group this is? But we know! I told my son-in-law that it was not good taste to bestow ones age to another. That made no never mind, he just courteously told the congregation at church my age, and of course my skin tone became a beautiful flaming red color. Then I just smiled. My honest opinion, birthdays are truly for the first stage of life!
Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends, family, even my foes, may your blessing be overflowing. May the Good Lord bring mercy, peace and love to us all. Kaye Buchanan

Hey Henry! Have you compiled a birthday list and is it accessible via computer? I know of a few birthdays coming up, and we can't send greetings unless we know who and when. So......do you want birthday wishes or not?????

Those of you who reached the double nickles before us should have said something. I am quite aware that the post middle years are not filled with the youthful exuberance we once enjoyed. However, you should have said something. What had not already drooped, dropped, or wrinkled has now sagged, slumped, and spread. It's amazing what five and a half decades can do to a physique! Birthdays! Bah! Humbug! I am truly thankful for each day and year the good Lord allows, but why tax the strength of the volunteer fire department with all those candles?

Hope You and all of Yours are Safe, Well and doing Great!
I am a little envious of you right now. The hush of that first snow fall in the Mountains of home was so awesome. I enjoyed trekking through the woods and the only sound would be the snow crunching under your feet.
Lubbock is a good place, but it is not the Mountains. I kid my family about it being centrally located: 700 miles in some direction and you can do just about anything you want. It is so far from any good diving. I used to enjoy sitting on the bottom just feeding the fish.
I spend all my spare time trying to figure out how to burn the candle in the middle without completely destroying the candle. Haven't figured that out yet, either.
Have a great lunch with your grandchildren tomorrow.
Take Care and God Bless,
Dan

I have only seen a few flakes and I am not talking about people. I am actually leaving today for Casper, WY and plan to spend Thanksgiving out there. A snow storm, however, is being predicted for Thanksgiving plus the day afterwards so I may see SD in March. Hope not. Take care my CHS friends and have a wonderful Blessed Thanksgiving. Love to all ya'll.

Well, our first didn't amount to too many flakes...

Jim and I spent he day in Johnson City, medical testing for him (good results), and it was windy and cold with a few traces of snow. Coming home at dark 30, pretty much the same. Not a fan of the cold either, but look forward to at least one snowfall over my shoes. (Why else should I cram my aching feet into fashionable boots)?

My mom used to go there. She's a freewill Baptist from long ago, but when she married my step-dad, she started gong there with him. Then after he passed away, Mom started going to church with us, as it was easier for her to be with other family members. Anyway, how did you know this guy? I did meet him a couple of times, and we go to special fund-raiser meals there occasionally. I think there's one this Saturday night.

I'll be sure to tell him that your aunt Lucille said hello. What is her last name? Sorry that you didn't get to see your other 2 aunts. We're all hoping that in just a little over 2 years from now, you'll come to VA to your next classroom. We'd all love to see you. You've been gone a long time.

I met him at the polls on election day. He seemed like a very nice man. I don't know him well yet, but the Methodist preachers are usually very active in the community so I am sure I will get better acquainted with him.
I read your response to Jamice before I replied here. If I hadn't I would wondered why Tampa said hello. I thought you had a "cool" nickname.

Hi Freddie,
Hope this finds You and all of Yours Safe, Well, and doing Great!
What have you been up to? Do you hunt? I just spoke to Bud (a friend) about how opening weekend down at the lake went. He got 3 bucks and a doe. I do not hunt any more. I sometimes will take someone down, but not hunt.
I agree with you, Patti will have to be careful with those chaps or we may have to round up a posse and rescue her from some of those cowboys. Think we could get Henry to Deputize us and lead the posse. We won't worry about jurisdictional issues when it comes to the women folk.
Jenni, Kaye, Sharon, and all those in need: my heartfelt prayers go up for you.
Take Care All; and God Bless,

for bright red, go figure. I could not believe Dan actually came up with a web link for those. I drove back yesterday and decided to take a route to the sandhills of Nebraska. It's like, why has the soil faded here so much. I guess when they say sand, they mean sand. It was still quite a sight. And to see all the buffalo ranges in Nebraska not to mention their beautiful horses. Wow, I think I will trade my car for the ridum cowboy style. still the top of the little hills are flat....where are all those lusious pines. Well friends, one more adventure in my life and the rest remains to be seen. Blessings to each of you....and hope to see you early spring. Those in need of prayer which would actually cover all of us are being lifted up. Take care and Freddie, good to see you online again, my friend.

There's a poem that starts out like that. I enjoy seeing your girls and giving them hugs. That makes me feel good to know they enjoy them. I've said it before...they are such beautiful girls. You will have to fight the boys off when they get a little older. I noticed Brianna in the Veterans' program Friday. Did you and Angela get to come for it? This was the first year that my mom didn't participate in it, and that was a little sad, but she just didn't feel like going. She did go back to church today, and then we went to eat and I took her down to see her 94 year old sister at the nursing home. The 2 of them are the only ones left out of 12.

Hi Janice,
I hope this finds You and all of Yours Safe, Well, and doing Great!
Hope you do not mind my putting my "penny" in. Is this the poem you were refering to.
HUGS
HUGS
"It's wonderous what a hug can do,
A hug can cheer you when you're blue.
A hug can say: 'I love you so,'
OR, 'Gee,! I hate to see you go'.
A hug is, 'Welcome back again'!
and, 'Great to see you ! or
'Where've you been'?
A hug can soothe a small child's pain
And bring a rainbow after rain.
The hug! There's just no doubt about it,
We scarcely could survive without it.
A hug delights and warms and charms,
It must be why God gave us arms.
Hugss are great for fathers and mothers,
Sweet for sisters, loving for brothers,
and chances are some favourite aunts
love them more that potted plants.
Kittens crave them, puppies love them,
Heads of State are not above them.
A hug can break the language barrier,
And make the dullest day seem merrier.
No need to fret about the store of 'em
The more you give, the more there are of 'em.
So stretch those arms without delay
And give someone a hug today.

I kind of liked to too.
I used to enjoy reading poetry. Although a lot of what I resd was offbeat. I even read Walter Rinder and Lenord Nemoy. I still have some of my old books, but have not read them in ages.

Hi Patti,
I hope this finds You and all of Yours Safe, Well, and doing Great!
I am glad your trip went well and hope that if and when you move, that it is all that you want it to be.
If you stay there long enough, it looks like you might be able to collect a different style and color of chaps for each day of the week; but be careful some of those cowboys might find it hard to behave after riding herd on those ranches for so long now. And if you should want to be rescued I am sure Freddie, Henry, Mike, Robert, and I could get a posse together.
Yeah, Jack of all Trades and Master of none.
I have even tried to master a couple of books, but I am still just learning.
I have never been a poet or a king, but as Ol' Blue Eyes would say " That's Life "
Have fun.
Take Care and God Bless,
Dan

I could not believe the beauty of this place although I did feel I had taken a step back in time which can be a very good thing. The only thing I don't like is the miles between one town to another. This truly is where the deer and the antelope roam. The Big Horn Mountains as well as the Rockies and the Black Hills are beautiful and the PLUS is that the weather is not quite as harsh as Minnesota/South Dakota. I plan this move after the first of the year. Too much to get done before the Holidays so thought it would be a good way to start the year off. Now if anyone has rhinestone chaps or knows where I can get them, please let me know. I can't wear overalls the entire time or cowboys boots and a flannel shirt. I am afraid I am too much bling, bling, but oh well, maybe they will learn something from me. scary, I know. Take care my friends and God Bless and keep you.

On October 26th, our third grandchild was born. Her name is Shelby Madison. She looks a lot (right now) like her older sister (3 1/2) Savannah. Savannah is very happy, but a little emotional too. She's not the baby anymore until she comes to Nannie Evon and Paw Kerns. Sometimes she gets a paci. So what!! In ten years it won't matter. I have learned so many new cartoon characters and how to operate new toys since these babies have been here. Not just Smurf's anymore. I love the Backyardigans!! Ha! Ha! Hope everyone is doing well. I only had about 10 trick or treaters but treated about 40 at our trunk or treat at church on Tuesday evening. Halloween sure has changed from when I was growing up. I can remember walking to town and back. No way I would allow my kids to do that. My daughter, Jennifer, was remembering when she, Dennis and Travis were young and Danny has always worked evenings so my brother Greg would take us out to different places. We did get egged and hit with water balloons on several occasions. I can't say Halloween is my favorite occasion, just a time for kids to get all hyped up with sugar and the dentist to make some money for next summer's vacation. HA!
Kaye, I didn't even check in to our site last night so I hope that prayers today will suffice.

I've been off line for 5 days, and thought I might have missed something. Now that it's raining and cooler, we should have more time to check in. We've done some computer upgrades,so I've been busy setting things up. Also, need time to get the rythm of a different keyboard. My cursor keeps jumping all over the place, Jim always thinks the re's something wrong with the machine when it does that, when in truth it just has to break in the operator. Hope it doesn't break me entirely!

I love to tell preacher stories and you have given me an opportunity! It seems that there was a young boy, in a small town down south, who had an old lawn mower and mowed yards in his neighborhood to earn some money. The local church had just installed a new pastor. This pastor was having a difficult time financially and had resorted to riding a bicycle in order to stretch his small salary. It just so happened as he was riding through the young boys neighborhood he had a brainstorm and decided to offer his bicycle to the young fellow in return for the lawnmower. His reasoning? Well, he could then mow yards as he visited, earn a little extra money and eventually go back to driving a car. The young boy accepted the preachers offer exclaiming that his only reason for trying to earn some money was so he could buy a bicycle.
A week or so later the young boy rode by the preacher's house and was ridiculed heavily by the preacher for trading a lawnmower that would not run. The young man defended himself well and noted to the preacher that the mower was running when the trade took place. The preacher agreed but complained that he could not get the mower to start.
The young boy's reply was that you first had to curse the mower and it would start. The preacher was startled and replied that he had been saved for so long that he had forgotten how to curse. Quickly the boy advised the preacher to keep pulling on the start cord and he would soon remember how.
You may need to cursor that cursor.
The preacher,
Mike

not, here I come. Starting out for Casper, WY today and will probably be offline for a while unless they have internet hookup in the Wagon Ring. I feel like I should take a harmonica and firewood. I don't have any chaps so I might stick out like a sore thumb with my "Virginia is for Lovers" sweatshirt. Anyway, guys you haven't been posting. Don't tell me Clintwood has dried up and blown again. Until then, get along little doggies and me too. Bye for now. Wish I knew how to lasso.

Is it cold up there? Any snow yet? We are having such mild weather. Clintwood's homecoming ballgame was last night against Wise. We won, 35-21. We also won last Friday night against Powell Valley, and that felt great! We do better at home than on the road. Jenni, I guess you were there but I didn't see you. We left a little early, as Danny and I weren't feeling well. I think we've picked up a little bug or something. Hope it goes away soon.

I cannot believe the beauty of the mountain ranges. We have snow out here. That seems to follow me...uh duh???? I could not believe the splendor of the peaks with the snowfall. After driving out of town you can actually see three different mountain peaks, Black Hills, Big Horn ( I think) and is the the Rockies???? My gosh, it is georgous. I think a transfer is in sight and the neat thing is the location is only 4 hrs from CO, Rapid City, etc. The location is beautiful and there are alot of "ritzy" people out here. I noted Peabody Coal/Energy Co here and don't they own mines in VA and WVA??? Take care my friend.

Patti,
Wyoming is a beautiful place! The name Wyoming is a Delaware Indian word that means "mountains and valleys". The name sure fits.
If you flew into Natrona County Airport you saw Casper mountain to the east, The Black Hills to the northeast and due north were the Big Horns. To the west you probably saw the Grand Tetons. They lie at the south gate of the Yellowstone National Park just north of Jackson Hole. In my opinion they are the most beautiful mountains in North America.
Snow! Well it snows out there all year round except in July I think. Anita and I were in Yellowstone in June of 1996 and got caught in a huge blizzard. It was stunning. I was back there in August trout fishing and it snowed, then again in September and it snowed. You won't have much snow until October in the low country but up in the mountains it's a different story.
Do your best to see a rodeo while you are there. Almost every town has one and they are a lot of fun.
Happy Trails!
Mike

The only way I would move north is under direct orders from God Almighty. I suppose I will acclimate, but right now, I am not thrilled with the temperature. My husband went on blood thinner three years ago and was cold that entire winter. He wanted the heat past 80 degrees, for once I was overheated. After he got used to the meds, he is back to his old hot natured self. He's already in bed with the ceiling fan running. When I get there, it won't be for very long!

in the low 30's here temp wise and in higher elevations there has been that unspeakable word "SNOW". Two inches to be exact but who's counting? I am. Our highs are in the low 50's and they call that high, huh? So what's the temps there and how is everyone? I am getting prepared for my venture to Casper, WY, leaving on the 19th but not without packing my mukluks. Take care and love to all....

but we usually get a trace of a flurry before Halloween, not enough to get excited about.
We've had record high temperatures this week (high 80's), but it is predicted to get back to relatively normal with highs in the 60's and lows in the 30's in a day or two.
I think most of us are actually hoping for significant snowfall this year to make up for the rain we haven't gotten all year.

you just made my day telling me that about the girls. Sometimes as teachers, we don't know how the children feel about us. We have to be strict and so focused on what the children need to learn. These SOL's have changed a lot about school and put a lot of pressure on all of us. Those girls are so pretty and sweet, and I always try to speak to them when I see them and give them a hug. I'm glad you and Angela have them.
BTW, I was raised on cow's milk. My aunt Maude had cows and we always bought our milk and butter from her. I can remember the milk being in big gallon glass jars with about an inch thick of cream on top. My aunt is now 94 and in Heritage Hall. She has a wonderful memory of the past, but very little short term memory. It's good talking to her about old times.

Hi Janice,
I bet you are a great teacher. I do not know if you have much free time for class projects, with the strict class schedule guidelines, or not. Have you ever let your class make butter? I set it up for my kids when they first started school.
Did you and Danny go to any baseball games this past season?
Take Care,
Dan

This is the first summer since our oldest son, Danny, II was 3 years old that we didn't go to Cincinnati. I don't think Danny went last year either. I love to go to the games. Our son did go 2 or 3 times, but with friends. I've only been to one other baseball park...Baltimore's. Actually my son and I went several years ago with Pam and Larry and their son when Ken Griffey, Jr. was still playing for the Mariners. Danny, II is a huge Griffey and Reds fan, and I am too. Danny is a Dodgers fan, and we went to Cinn. several times to watch those 2 teams play. Do you ever go to any games? One of these days, we'd love to go to Cooperstown to the Hall of Fame. We've had to curb our traveling somewhat in the last few years with the boys in college. Danny, II would love to visit every park. Maybe once he becomes a pharmacist, he'll be able to do so.

Hi Janice,
I like amateur sports. I enjoy watching my Grandson. I do not really watch professional sports. I used to enjoy the Olympics until they opened them up to professionals. I enjoy the family reunion baseball games we play in Mexico. We actually use the City's League Stadium when we play.
I understand Larry is a Pharmacist: will your son work with him when he gets his Degree? It is a very good profession. Our Danny II worked at the hospital in the pharmacy as a Tech(he made chemo therapy treatments) , while getting his CE Degree. He got his now wife interested in Pharmacy and she is now a Pharmacist. Danny's wife works for Walgreens. It is a lot of school, but worth it in the long run.

Larry Mullins (the one they called "punkin") became a pharmacist. He was first married to my double first cousin Etta Gaye Baker, but they divorced and both remarried. He is now in the business end of pharmacy. Larry Woods works in insurance, and he and Pam live near Roanoke. Our Danny doesn't know exactly where he'll work, but is committed for a few years to Norton Community, as they have helped pay for part of his pharmacy school education. As for sports, we still enjoy going to CHS football games. Used to be involved in all of it when the boys were there.

have taken a lot of fun out of teaching. We used to do units on such things as Nutrition, teeth, dinosaurs, and other things. We'd spend a month on nutrition and divide the food groups into weeks, and we'd have tasting events with the different groups and a "Two Bites Club", where the children were supposed to take at least 2 bites of new foods, etc. to try to learn to like them. We'd do "Christmas Around the World" in December and celebrate the different customs, have a pinata, etc. Now there's just so much material that we have to cover that there's not time for these things, because they are not SOL. We've never made butter as a class, but I've experienced making it in a class I took. I'd like to try it in class sometime.

Teachers today have a very difficult job, they have to keep up with ever changing Technology, Ideology, and Social climate. My hat is off to you and the majority who persevere to imbue our next generation with knowledge. Children today are so smart, but it seems they lack a certain amount of discipline. I sometimes wonder what they would do if they had to do without all their techno toys.

Dan

Hi Freddie,
Glad you and yours are doing well.
Hope you get that rain soon. I know what you mean, this is our first good year of rain fall in about 10 years. I enjoy the cool nights and mornings, too. If you are ever out this way maybe we can treat you to some Texas style barbecue or some good Tex-Mex.
Take Care,
Dan
