Hi all, just a little info on some tips to watch for with the major color companies making the switch from PPD to TDS for the big dyes in the colors. The reason for the change is that a PPD allergy is from exposure, so you need to be exposed to it to become allergic. With TDS, this has an extremely low cross allergic reaction, and exposure reaction. The studies claim .03%, which I have not found any information to make this seem to be wrong. So, in Europe, this is what they have been using for over ten years. In the USA, we have been dragging our heels for some reason, I have no idea why.

You must still check each individual box on each application, as grey coverage is not as complete, so PPD is often added. You will not find a higher, or lower allergic rate for demi/semi permanent color and permanent color. you might find that the roots are less obvious though.

You must do the patch test, ALWAYS, and by the manufacturers directions. I can understand waiting longer before doing the color, but do not ever leave the color on your skin longer than it says!!!!

You can use vaseline as a barrier around the test area if you are not allergic to it, it will keep the color off your skin pretty well. If it bother's your skin, try a hair conditioner.

Stick with well known brands of color if possible. They are more likely to have paid for better and more extensive testing, unfortunately.
