Sanotint Light?

I too had a severe allergic reaction to PPD. I've had several minor reactions over the last 10 years but this last one was severe and required Prednisone. I've used Henna (Light Mountain brand) and the problem I've encountered is that the color is inconsistent. I have black and grey (70% or so) curly hair and the henna made it look blueish, greenish sometimes. It is impossible to control the color results. Also, be warned that some products are not all henna and some do contain PPD as well.

EcoColors does contain PPD, I had a reaction to the patch test.

Has anyone heard of Sanotint Light? I saw it on a website and it is imported from Italy http://www.lavitanuovainc.com/faq.htm. I was reading an article that mentioned that PPD is banned from France, Germany, and Sweden. The people in these countries must have an alternative dye without PPD, right?! Any European info out there?

Hi everyone

I'm so happy about this that I've joined this forum just to pass on the good news. I have a severe reaction to PPD, so have been reduced to bleach or nothing but grey for the past year. Then I came across Santotint. Yesterday, (after a patch test) I tried it - I asked my hairdresser to source and apply. The results have been excellent - complete grey coverage and it's left my hair feeling and looking great - AND NO REACTION AT ALL. RESULT.

Salons

I live in the north suburban Chicago area. Does anyone know of a salon that might be sensitive to PPD allergies and/or might be flexible in working with alternate products? I'm going to buy Santotint Light from the internet and try a patch test! Thanks for letting us know about your positive experience with it, especially to cover grey hair!!!

I've added the site to the list of products that DO NOT contain PPD (below).

What color did you try?

Please post back with a further update and let us know how it continues to work out. (If you are still satisfied/how long it lasts?)

Thanks again for posting!!!

UPDATE ON SANOTINT

Sorry not to have got back sooner. I used one of the blonde colours - can't remember which one as my hairdresser chose it for me, sorry. I'm still really pleased with the colour - no grey showing and staying put very well. It's also kept my hair in good condition. I think I shall only need to recolour every 4 months or so, which is great.

That is excellent news! I've been tempted to try Sanotint, but I have not just yet. I'm happy to hear about your results.

I think I'll try and see if they'll send me some sample colors. Did you get samples first?

Thanks for keeping us updated!

I REALLY appreciate the info!!!

Hi

I discovered about my PPD allergy when I turned 40.

"Don't worry. Allery to hair dye is not rare.", was the message my tricologist told me. I spent a small fortune for this information and a great tip. My London specialist recommended I try Sanotint now available in England.

After scouring the country from Scotland, Wales and Ireland, I found Sanotint at my door step. I bought PPD free hair dye from http://www.tulipabeauty.co.uk

Do you also have an Allergy to PPD.
Do you have Hair Allergy

Try Hair Dye free from PPD. Sanotint hair dye is a Paraphenylenediamines free hair dye. I am over the moon (not over the hill!!!). Sanotint hair dye is Chemical free hair dye.

You can learn more about Sanotint and natural hair dyes try this website >http://www.naturatint.co.uk

Mind.. I am begining to get used to the idea of grey hair so after all this trouble I may not need hair dyes after all.

Hope you find this info useful.

Good luck !

Be careful with Sanotint, I tried the dark brown and it said it did not contain ppd, but i reacted to it, I think it contains another related ingredient.

Did you purchase the shampoos as well since the recommendation is to use a pH balanced shampoo and conditioner?

I'm thinking about trying the product and wanted to know if it worked well on African American hair; brown hair

Sanotint

I too have had allergic reactions to hair dye. It is extremely frustrating when you are early 40s and you are 90% or so gray (started in my early 20s). I have tried Sanotint and it is great!! The Sanotint Light doesn't cover my gray very well, but I would recommend starting with that first. Then if it doesn't cover try using the Sanotint Classic. According the individual that I have ordered the product from, he mentioned that the Classic has very little PPD in it. I have used this a few times, no burning, no blisters and it covers the gray pretty well.

Make sure you don't have any Veg. Allergies since both products are veg base.

Good Luck!

Sanotint contains PPD?

No score for this post
March 28 2009, 5:01 PM

It's interesting that Sanotint Classic has a little PPD in it, because PPD is not at all listed in the ingredients nor on their website. This can be terrible for those who are severely allergic to PPD and cannot be exposed to even the tiniest amount.

After reading this post, I decided to do further research on the web and came across this message:
http://www.thisnext.com/item/E39273F9/99B6E472/Sanotint-Light-Hair-Dye
Apparently, Sanotint uses PPD derivatives, which function similarly to PPDs.

I'm not sure I even want to try the patch test now.
