Bleach

Hi there,
A hairdresser told me today that bleach is safe for your hair and doesn't make it brittle or cause it to break easily. She was saying because I couldn't have PPD that instead I could lighten my hair using a cap with bleach and of course the bleach wouldn't touch my skin. I just want to know people's thoughts on what they think of bleach, how bad is it for your hair? Thanks, Christine.

Bleach

Christine,

Bleach can definately be safe! In the right hands, bleach can be as safe as hair gel, no kidding! Some of the chemicals we have access to today are totally amazing. If she says it is that gentle, she might be telling the truth. Ask her what brand it is, and ask her if she has it in her hair. If she doesn't, ask her who in the salon does. I'm betting there are quite a few who do sport it! I would never have had hilights 15 years ago, and now I have a very light foil frame around my face, due to the gentleness of the bleaches available today. Go ask questions!!!

I've decided to bleach. I asked for big, bold chunky highlights. She used foils. Only half head.. like from top of ear and up, all the way around. So my underside is my natural color. Looks two-toned!!

No problems. Haha, no more grey!! And my hair has awesome texture!! Whatch'a think?? Post your comments here!!

Good for you! Your hair looks awesome. You're so brave, tryin' all this different stuff. wink.gif

I'm still hangin' tight with my Clairol Loving Care. I finaly realized I didn't have to go as dark as I thought. I thought in order to hide the gray, I had to go super dark. So, I've dropped it down a notch, and I really like it.

Thanks for posting the pics. You're lucky you can go different shades. My skin is too pale to go blonde/bleach. It would wash me out. So, I don't feel as though it's an option for me....except, maybe for a few daring (skinny) highlights...someday.

Did the bleach bother you at all?

I had no reaction from the bleach. I did tell them ahead of time of my allergic reaction to PPD. Which, no one in the salan had even heard about. She did apply a toner which concerned me, but it was only on for two minutes and she rinsed right out. I was fine. I like it. I thought blonding would make me look "washed out" too. But, now my skin doesnt look as pale as my hair is not dark! LOL!! Thanks for the compliment.

I've looked at the ingredients of that in our local WalMart and I found it to have contained PPD. Are there different versions of Loving Care by Clairol that I seem to be missing?

Thank you.

Love the hair Aluli happy.gif

About loving care, there are 2 for sale in the uk, one I think with 6 to 8 washes with no ppd, and one with upto 24 washes with ppd.
Hope this helps Jo

That looks GREAT!! Love the hairstyle aswell!

Thought I'd share a pic of myself, since I bleach too.

Not the happiest face ever but I couldn't find a better one :P

Basically I just bleach my whole hair at home, let the bleach sit for 60 mins.
No problems so far, it tingles in the beginning but bleach does that.
It's not even comparable to the PPD-horror.

It's still discoloured at the tips cuz I went from black/purple and I don't want to break the hair..

Nice job. What is your natural haircolor? And what product are you using, like what brand? Well, anyways, it looks drop dead gorgeous and you do a great job!!!!

Thanks so much!! :D I was really self conscious about going light again since I've been darker for years..

I have a typical scandinavian haircolour, dark (mousy) blonde with lighter highlights from the sun.
I use Stargazer bleach (think it's a UK brand) since that's vol. 30 and the highest I can get my hands on, since I'm going for platinum blonde without the toner.
Also I've found that stargazer (a "punkish" brand) has a fairly low amount of unnecessary ingredients in it. Smells like toilet-freshener though wink.gif

Highlights?

Aluli,

When you got highlights, is there a colour applied on top? If so how did you find one ppd free?

I've never had highlights and wondering whether they are an option

Thanks

Rose

Your hair looks beautiful! Perfect golden blonde! Are you still liking it? What's your natural haircolor and texture?

I'm thinking of going for highlights now (after using CLC to cover my gray strands on light-medium golden brown hair for many months). Only thing is...I'm worried about drying/breaking my hair and the toner containing PPD. Do you know what was in your toner? Did you notice your hair being a lot more damaged?

Thank you so much for sharing your gorgeous hair!
