I was forwarded this letter recently from a teacher in Florida to Jack Borden regarding her school's use of his education materials - proof (if it was needed) that kids can get hooked on the sky just like the rest of us! -

"Wednesdays 'Art Explosion' was a big hit!

Let me describe this all day event at our school; the students came to me in four sessions, groups of 22. I read the book "It looks like Spilt Milk" (all but the very last page) and the students had to guess what the author was writing about. I then passed out white boards and dry erase markers and we went outside to collect our 'cloud data'. The sky was a typical 'Florida' day filled with clouds of all different sizes and shapes. We then went back in the classroom and produced cloud graphs viewing an example I displayed on my docu-cam.

The students had to plot their own observations and create their own 'Sky Graphs'. I'm sure you are well aware of how children can use their imaginations and the completed graphs were truly unique works of art.

I felt particularly gratified when on Thursday a 5th grader saw me in the cafeteria and told me "too bad we aren't doing cloud graphs today Mrs. Kearns, check out the sky, (she then pointed up) it has AWESOME colors ."

Wow, a 5th grader impressed with the beauty of the sky! What have you started?! Teachers loved the idea because they could tie in several benchmarks in Literacy, Math and Science. Thank you again for sharing your inspiration!"
