As you are using Mandrake - you can run menudrake and muck around with the menu's to your hearts content.
(that can be found in the menu tree - or you can click "run" and then type in menudrake. If you screw it up, don't worry - there is an option to return to default - which just brings it back the the installed state.
Try the "Crystal" theme from www.kdelook.org - you may like the look of the icons (they are from the connectiva distro). I do.
I haven't upgraded to Mdk 9.0 yet - but Mandrake has been may main Linix distro since 7.2 - I run 8.2 at present. I even pay for the odd copy.
