Another idea...

One idea I thought would be interesting (but highly impractical) would be to allow a "none of the above" vote. If "none of the above" had a majority of the votes then all of the current cantidates would be disqualified from the election and new people would have to be picked.

Of course if this happened the whole election would have to be much shorter, but maybe the politicians would actually stick to the issues and promote what they COULD DO BETTER instead of simply trying to not be as bad as the other person. Would be a way out of the "vote for the lesser of two evils" situation that seem to occur more than it should, IMO.
