Of couse I meant to wipe out all but you so that you are completly safe from criminals.

Under that scenario you'd kill yourself, which seems ludicrous. Gee, of course it is, your reducto absurdum is indeed absurd.

Strange, here in Austria only 1 released Murder did kill again during the last 15 years. Besides I have no problem with life-long imprisonment. I'm sure that you can easily fing well established numbers that your chances to be murdered by a black-skinned/white-skinned/jewish/moslem/homosexual/insert_group_here human are higher thanby the other so lwet us kill said group to lower the risk. (If you make the 'right' choices Adolf would be proud of you)

Point one: you released him and ONLY one person died? How negligently cruel of you to that victim. And you use the term "only?" And you try to call me callous? (see further down)

As to your silly Hitler comment, Hitler was an Austrian, as are you, so you can take national and cultural credit for all that, you are welcome. We don't play it that way here, mein freund. You completely blew your point with that nonsensical Adolf comment, you wre much were better off without it. You also made assumptions not warranted by the commentary.

How easy you are condemming innocent people to death. So the life of innocent doesn't really mean anything to you.

I condemn no one to death with that comment, but you apparently just assumed it. The sentence was apparently passed by the hypothetical jury that hypothetically wrongly sentenced him. Yet IRL "ONLY" one perons got murdered by a released criminal in WIen, Oestereich. (SP?) The snow is not all that is cold in the Alps, meid freund, try your heart.

I also wonder at how you infer that it means nothing to me when I judge that being wrongly convicted would suck.

However, you have NO absolute guarantees of anything in this life, tough beans there, and your odds of being killed by a fellow law abiding citizen poorly handling his automobile is greater, in orders of magnitude, than of being murdered(even in the USA*) so what is your point?

You missed that one by a mile. Go back and read it again, and understand where the odds against being hit by a car exceed, by orders of magnitude, (that is powers of 10: 10^2, 10^3, 10^4, 10^5, etc.) the odds of being wrongly convicted, no matter where you are, in either of our respective countries.

Sidenote: My hometown Vienna has 1.7 Mio. Inhabitants and ~30 cases of Murder+homicide a year. Last I looked similar US-cities had ~300 cases/year.
But I'm sure this has nothing to do with you Society and your Way_of_Life.

Gee, let's play the baiting game. Your country gave us all Hitler, so what, you also gave the world Mozart. It's a wash. Austria is a keeper.

You present a cause and effect relationship that misses the point of the conversation to date, but no surprises there. Given crime rate X, how to reduce it. All you regurgitated was "there is relatively a high crime rate." Right, that was an initial point of departure for the conversation in the first place. Your suggested solution is what: that everyone in American move to Austria? As nice as Austria is, and as lovely, I don't think there is enough room.

The differences in our cultures, Herr eye roller, have much to do with a lot of things, to include some 250 years of evolution of a dynamic and growing society as compared to an incestuous, introverted, and calcified society -- in your Austria -- as well as a variety of differing common cultural assumptions. Austrians were used to being subjects for far longer than they have ever been used to being citizens. You have never been a melting pot. You are used to defeat in War, dating back to at least 1866 and dear old Otto von Bismarck.

But congratulations on your low crime rate, how nice for you. It's a good thing. If you had the crime rate we had, you might approach your problem differently. Multiply your "only" by 10, per your scaled reference in crime rates per thousand, and consider how that makes you feel. If you could export a low crime rate, I expect everyone here would buy it. But you can't.

You can, and do however, can export talented and bright people. Heck, look at that, the folks in California just made Arnold Schwarzenegger governor, a State whose GNP and population exceeds that of your entire country. When was the last time (sarcasm on) you bigots in Austria voted for an American for PM? How now Kurt Waldheim? (sarcasm off)

It looks like Arnold knew a thing or two when he left Austria: if you want to get ahead in this world, you might be better off getting away from the incestuous and hidebound societies in Central Europe. He took the risk to come to our more dangerous country, and look how that paid off?

On the other hand, your own breaks might fall quite nicely there in Wien, on the shores of the Donau.

What do you think?
