Actually, you can't really imply anything from the courses he mentioned. All freshmen in the School of Engineering take an identical (or nearly so) course load for the first year before moving on to their individual disciplines. My younger brother took those same courses last year and he's studying to be a civil engineer.
Not that I'm knocking Chemical Engineering or anything. Just pointing out one of Purdue's many charming quirks. Like the "ice polisher" snow brushes used by the groundskeeping crew that simultaneously clear the sidewalks of snow and buff the underlying sheet of ice to a mirror shine.
