1976 Staudacher S-class hydroplane
“Bad Habit”

Restored in 2006, the Bad Habit is a perfect example of an “S” bottom Staudacher hydro.

Complete documentation and history from the day it left Staudacher's shop in 1976.

From its Mike Naber-built 2000cc Ford Pinto motor to hand-lettered graphics on the hull, every detail has been brought to a high level of quality and period-accuracy.

Totally turn-key.

From fuel jugs to wiping towels (embroidered with the Bad Habit name) amd a full boat cover, you only need a helmet, life jacket and a trailer hitch with 2” ball to be ready to run.

Easy to own and operate, the Bad Habit rides on a custom-built trailer, doesn’t require a gas-hog tow rig and fits in an ordinary garage.

Buy it now and pick up the races in Elizabeth City, NC next weekend (June 6,7, and 8) and run away from the 4 other “S” class boats pre-registered. Or run with the big dogs at the Gold Cup on the Detroit River this July 11-13.

Can’t make the Gold Cup?... will deliver to Pontiac Lake, MI the following weekend for the APBA “Quake on the Lake”.

Its going to be a racey summer…Clayton, Cambridge, Algonac, Wheeling and more. The Bad Habit is a low-maintenance way to enjoy all that Vintage and Historic has to offer.

I will deliver up to 250 miles at no cost to the buyer…buyer is responsible for shipping greater distances.

Great Boat - Ready to Run

May 28 2008, 8:48 PM

I drove this boat in Dayton this year and it's running great! It's an absolute perfect boat for a new Vintage member, perfectly prepared and excellent attention to detail.
Joe got a call from Seattle about 10 minutes after the post - it would be a great addition to the North West Vintage Group. It seems like a Staudacher hull out there would be in the minority.
Great fun Vintage unit that would be a good addition to anyone's garage regardless of where it ends up. Joe's up to four boats now and is serious about selling one or more. Hope I get to drive it again, it was a blast!

The pictures are a tad misleading, Joe cut the cowling into two pieces - it was a pain to put on or off as one piece, it'a a breeze now.
