Re: top 3- 95 goalies

You may want to take a look at some of the goalies that are on the bottom teams, goalies on those teams are much better as they get over 30 shots a game. It's easy to look good on a team that has great offence and defence, try making those 2nd or 3 saves.

Re: top 3- 95 goalies
January 5 2010, 11:18 AM
You are right on with goalie's on weaker teams could be stronger. There's a huge difference in development from goaile's facing 30+ shots versus 10+ games and a strong team in front to make you look good.

Re: top 3- 95 goalies
January 5 2010, 12:56 PM
True the workload will be higher on a weaker team but I disagree with the poster who talks about second and third shot stops. If they are an elite goalie there won't be as many of these situations since they will have good rebound control (even on a weaker team).

Re: top 3- 95 goalies
January 5 2010, 11:22 PM
Good goalies come from both "good" and "bad" teams. Kids like Leger, Martin and Giugovaz come from top teams and they get at least 20 shots a game. Their teams need them badly. Kids like Dekort get 25-35 shots a game and steals games. He's the intire team, but Dekort won't get deep in the playoffs and lost in the top 16 at the Marlies tournament, therefore, wont get many "HUGE" games. You could argue which is better for goalies, but there's no real answer.

Re: top 3- 95 goalies

There are many goalies out there that are being vastly overlooked. A strong team portrays a strong goalie but put that goalie on one of the weaker teams and they will not stand out. Not to say that they are poor tenders rather stating that a goalie on a weaker team may just show to be stronger. Goalies are either loved or hated and the interesting, perhaps somewhat sad point, is that it is the adults that share that view. Kids know if that have a decent goalie no matter where they sit in the standings.

DMF Goalie is overrated. Many in the league much better than him. He is not in the top 5 of the GTHL.
(No Preticular order) <--nice spelling <br>
1. Martin (JRC) For sure. JRC fall to mid-pack without him. The rest have catching up to do.
2. Sharp (SCC) Kidding? No dad.
3. Leger (DMF) Your kid is ok Dad, but other DMF goalie is better!
4. Veres (Westchester) Not bad. Top 10? Maybe
5. Nichols (St. Catherines)Maybe not anymore? Yes (and I'm not his dad!)
6. Dekort (Markham Majors) Decent. Big, a little akward, but yes, top 10.
7. Fortinos (Marlies) Yes. But not as good as he used to be.
8. Jenkins (Honeybaked) For sure. This kid is good.
9. MacDonald (YSE) Come on?!? Seriously dad, other YSE kid is better.
10. Giugovaz (JRC) Still ok. Not sure if top 10. Used to be top 3.
Other decent ones from the top of my head that should probably be on list:
Cole (Clarington)
Lamanna (Ajax)
Short (Titans)
??? (Quinte bigger tender)
Battisti (Windsor)
Comrie (LA selects)
Kumar (Ottawa Senators)
+35 more from Quebec that are all better than any one of these guys!
They must be doing something right. They're cranking out the best goalies year after year.
Nobody ever hears about any of them, until they land in "the show".
How many goalies from Ontario are playing in NHL right now? Answer: Not enough in proper ratio to players.
Sorry to say, but we're really behind with our development of our young goalies in this province.

Re: top 3- 95 goalies
January 11 2010, 10:32 AM
Every goalie that is repeatedly listed as 'the best' is on a top team. A top team is a top team mostly due to the talent of the players. It is very easy to look good as a goalie when you only see on average 15 shots a game. Teams with highly skilled players really do not put much effort into selecting a tender.
If you take a look at the tenders on the middle of the pack teams they are far better then the ones on the top.
Here is my 'top 3' (no particular order)and I am NOT the father of any of them, my son is not a goalie but a player, I used to be a tender back in my days and I help out on the bench. This is our second year with this team and I am making my picks based on the development that I have seen as we have played these teams this year and last.
Lammana (A/P) - definately not a top team but this kid continues to have a positve impact on the team
Sharp (SCC) - again not a top team but this kid has made a huge impact on the team this year. They compete with our team where as last year we walked all over them. The games that we have played them and a few I have watched in tournaments-this kid has made a difference.
Clarington goalie - does what he has to and does it very well. The teammates play a different game when this kid is in, they have the confidence in him which allows them to play a better game
Those 3 teams have made an improvement over the year. Tenders should not be considered top just because they play for a top team.

3.Perrisini (could argue 2nd considering he and even Abrams brought a talentless team to fourth place
4.Dekort (Majors) This team wouldn't even be in the playoffs without him

andrew hart from burlington most under rated goalie out there because of his size. Also have worked with Nichols, hardest working goalie I've seen on the ice in a while wouldnt be surprised if he's one of the top (if not to) goalie selected. Tremendous effort put into everything and high potential. As for hart he's a risk, his height is his dis-advantage but if he was taller he would get alot more attention wouldn't hurt for a team to take a chance on him.

Matrin and Nichol(most said 2 of the top 3 goalies) both work with ron mays, so does chris festerini(erie otters) and bryce o'hagan(petes) plus more ohl goalies. I think this is showing how well ron mays is developing goalies and getting them places (ohl, junior, eventually nhl and other elite leavels).
NOT ron mays

TE goalie is all show, without the team infront of him, average at best
