I have a little boys, who ever since the olympics has begged to play Hockey. He is was finally old enough and started yesterday. he had never once set foot on the ice and he tried hard, he used one of those walker things but the tears soon came. He kept going back out and by the end he was determined to hit the puck....he did.
Today he did really great falling constantly but getting up, however with 30 mins left to go he was in tears again and wouldnt get up off the ice. They were able to talk him into getting up and he got excited to hit the pucks but he ended up coming off the ice 10 mins before the sesion was up.
How long will it take for him to get use to this? For him to understand other kids running into you happens and that it just takes time? I feel like today was so sad for him and I dont want him to associate it with that. I have no idea how to sakte so i cant take him to any open skates.
I guess my questions are
How long does it take for them to feel comfertable on the ice?
Is it notmal for the kids to be a little scared or to cry?
Should I encourage him to NOT use the walker? He seemed to do so much better without it.
Any advice is greatly welcomed
