Why insult someone you do not know? Eric Vesely played D1 at Ferris State and is a fabulous coach and individual. I will take D1 experience over a higher CEP level any day.

LaVarre far from best

Like New Trier have larger program that gets them banners, look at Loyola no banners because he is not biggest program. He is average at best. Many others give more effort have more knowledge and are smarter coaches.

Unless an absolute garbage program, the best mite coach is at the rink closest to your house.

Figure out the sport and see how far your kid progresses before you start chasing coaches.

Just an opinion

Banners don't make coaches great, development and practice preparation does. The Winnetka Coach isn't the best Coach, he always skates with 10 players on a team and gets extra practice time for his group. But he doesn't know how to run a bench. Some of these older guys need to retire. But then what would they do? Youth Hockey in Illinois is crazy, people are jumping programs and the Falcon's are stealing players everyday. So sad it has come to this. USA Hockey is sound asleep. You don't have to bash anyone, just look around. You'll be able to see the issues. I saw a USA Hockey person having kids doing jumping jacks on the ice.. Good for the blades and has nothing to do with Hockey.

DJ needs to leave Winnetka, yeah can't run a bench, that's why Loyola never wins, maybe focus on Loyola. Falcons are the biggest recruiters around, but they claim they are a "community team".

You have a good Mite coach if:

1. He focuses on skills vs. systems. 20 - 30 minutes of every practice should be on edge work and skating.

2. The kids have fun and look forward to not only games but practice.

3. He is not banging any of the Moms.

If you can get that Trifecta you have a good Mite hockey coach.

The Ice Dogs have solid Mite coaches. KJ has been there for years and teaches and challenges the kids but also makes it fun.

ROB MESSNER?

No score for this post
August 21 2012, 1:18 PM

Can anyone tell me anything about Rob Messner. I believe he is slated to coach the second Mite team at the Stars. I have a fairly talented(for this age group) first year(7 YO) Mite. However, from what I have heard, there are quite a few returning Mites for that top team and maybe only a few open positions to fill on that team. Therefore, I was wondering if anyone had any insight to Rob Messner and how he is as a coach and how he is with the kids and the parents. I am very interested as I have also been told that he will more than likely move up with the kids that return next year to the top team, as Rob Emme is coaching the top team this year but has a son on the team that will be moving up to Squirts next year. Thanks.
