I think the Illinois boys are doing pretty well out in the Brick Invitational Tournament. There are a lot of good hockey players in North America. It is Canada's national sport. Our kids are not getting blown out. They are competitive. It was probably a great experience.
What bothers me a little bit is that when you look at the Illinois roster, through Pointstreak, some of those kids did not even try out for the Jr. Blackhawks team. They did not try out at all. They weren't there for the United Center try-out and they weren't there when the cuts were made to 30 or so kids. They were never there. The United Center try out was more or less a farce, and the cut down to 30 kids was more or less a farce, because they added kids who were never at either of the sessions.
That to me is Illinois youth hockey. Not that we are not competitive. It is that there is always that "silent try-out". I don't want to hear that there were "drop=outs" when the price was announced. If that was the case, they should have taken the replacements from the 30 who made the second cut, not from ou of the blue.
