Illinois and Mich. tryouts for MM helping airline industry. With the changes to the MWEHL players outside the league are scrambling to make MWEHL teams. Look for Chicago teams to benefit.

Looks like Fury has become Mission south. Sabans are the benifit of many ex-mission players. I would say that Fury will be the team to beat. How many out of towners on TI?
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
TI will be the team to beat in the beginning with more returning MM players in Holmes,Schotenbauer,Wiggemanson,Coles,Son,McAloon,Baumgartner(rumor is he is headed to TI),and jr. goalie in Murdock.
Things may change as they did last year with CYA being top team in beginning of season only to take losses to Mission and TI in end of season.
Each team will be competitive. Mission's losses may have been the most but they have two ND commits who they believe will carry the team.

A 93 and a small 92 are going to carry a major team next season!!! Shattucks, Detroit and Boston must be wetting their pants in fear! That is an insult to the 90 and 91 players in this state. Mission now falls into the old TI habit of "selling" their teams to parents. This was the death of TI at the young ages and the reason Mission had early success as a club by claiming that it was a hockey club run by hockey people. That appears no longer to be true.
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
CYA: had the largest turnout and may have been thought to be easiest team to make due to large number of players moved on or coaches worked to promote program. TI: smallest turn-out but as in past team basically picked before tryout. Mission: small turnout, top player out east with Nike/Bauer,(until this dad returns team won't be picked).Fury:good showing. Sabans bring in some top returners at MM level.
CYA and Mission look to have fewest returners from MM level and have to rebuild. CYA working hard to get talent. Mission built on returning '92 and '93 but picking up '91s. TI strong core returns on forward but needing to replace entire D group, look to be strong in net. Fury looks to be team of veterans at MM with some strong new '92s and out of staters.
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
So everyone has had 2 tryouts and the teams should be 98% picked. Any suprises? Who won the out-of-state recruiting? Can the cuts at one catch on at another? Which major team tooks strongest? Which minor team will benefit from the cuts?

Cullen will be starter at Mission and Morbeck will be starter at TI. A top goalie doesn't leave home for junior or senior year in high school to back up as a keeper.

Not mine but he's on the Mission minor team, or will be. He's one of the reasons we came to Mission. Its not exactly a secret. Go to St Cloud and see for yourself.

Looks like TI has two BIG holes to fill with FS and MM going to AnnArbor. Any chance the Fury moves a good Mission Minor 92 G up to their Majors? If you have the chance as a tender wouldn't you have to play Majors? Don't underestimate Bruno. He will find the right combo for a competitive team. I also think Fury could be a force with a mature team.

why wouldnt we under estimate bruno?
he has coached for 5 years and has a win % of 344
one year of all 90's and placing 5 Nahl tenders and 2 USHL players doesnt make your midget program solidified.

Get your facts straight about Cya MM. BB has been coaching there for 8 years,2 MM 3mm 3MM. Last year CYA MM sent 4 players to the USHL, 11 to the NAHL, 1 to the OPJHL and 1 boy took an offer from Saint Olaf in Minnesota instead of playing in the NAHL. In the last two years they have sent a total of 22 players on to junior hockey one of which was a "92" year birthyear to the USHL. The program is working hard and definately headed in the right direction.

There is no need to be upset. 8 years 20 players placed.
Oh and by the way. 11 players from cya are playing fulltime in the NAHL next yr.?
%345 win percentage. the only way to head is up after 8 yrs of failure
how many state titles has he won?
You guys come on here and cherp TI and say they are done But every year they send the most players on to USHL D_! USA TEAM
THAT IS A FACT... every yr.
then we someone calls you out you get all defensive and talk about getting better after 8 yrs
IF you don't want us to compare don't act like your on the same level as TI
If that were the case they wouldnt have offered 4 93's a spot this yr(all who turned them down)

Ya and in one of CYA's "bad" years they are still one of the top MM programs in the country. You play well at any of the clubs and you will be fine. I also hear they will be strong in net next year. That's how you build a team.
Heard Mission was not overwhelmed by the numbers or the quality Sunday. They may be forced to make tough choices as well.

Yes. Only RR will be playing Majors. Other 93's, who are all good and perhaps two could play up at Majors, are staying at mm. This issue can be put to bed.

Do you people actually hear yourselves? None of you have any clue about who is going where and why. And, by the way, who cares tryouts are almost over. You people are sick and twisted the way you start stupid rumors thinking it will help your kid make a team. And do you really think making up lies about coaches will help recruit for your kids team? C'mon I hope you people aren't that stupid to believe everything you read on here... As far as the wild predictions...It's Midget Major in Illinois! All the teams will be very competitive. There are plenty of good players here. Now go buy your kid some ICE CREAM!

Locker room talk. You may be the only person on the planet who feels it necessary and/or informative to point out that all the posts on here may not be completely in accordance with all of the facts.
Here is a little insider info for you: those who are close to the facts and know the people making it happen do know what's literally true, what's exageration, what's fabrication and what's for effect (humor, ribbing, sarcasn, irony, etc).
People have "invested" scores of thousands of dollars and countless hours and weekends and holidays on hockey. Their kids have worked long and hard and sacraficed much for their dream. Its getting to crunch time. By and large everyone equits themselves appropriately in person and at the rinks. They come on here to blow off a little steam. I consider that a healthy thing. You consider it a crime against humanity.
I am glad for you that you live such a sheltered life that all this sillyness is as bad as it could get for you.

Sorry can't find any players ripped to shreds here. Some coaches trashed. I assume they are adults, at least over 21. Could you be more specific? Or at least a little less hysterical?

Why would any thinking person buy a child an ice cream? How horrible and cruel! I mean, the butter fat, the steroids and antibiotic residue from the cream, the refined sugar, the pesticide residue, the empty calories. Are you completely unaware of the epidemic in childhood obesity in this country? Not to mention that the money could be more ethically spent helping those less fortunate and more needy. Call him or her a poor hockey player and be done with it. That is infinitely better than puting something in their fragile developing bodies that will hurt them for years to come. God, I hope you aren't a parent!

i think that is exactly what ice cream is talking about. TJT and his father are actually being ripped to shreds, and it's just plain stupid. Such a small kid and no talent? has anyone even seen this kid play? he has always played against bigger, and stronger kids than him and somehow he seems to excel more than others.

LP you should be ashamed of yourself for letting this go on. Thats why this board was shut down. There is nothing positive about this board and its all filled with lies from alot of people who know nothing of the game. Its not BS its plain slander.I cant believe what is on this thread and either do you. TJT is agreat kid with alot of charactor and will play for the Mission this fall for the 8th season in a row. Thats right same club 8 yrs in a row. Then move on to play at Notre Dame with his full scholarship. He is a success story and IL hockey should be proud of him and the people that taught him the game. Sounds like the parents did pretty good to me. Actully I think this is every kids dream. Its called hard work every day, both ways. Good things will come.

TI missed out on alot of good players that came out to the camp. JH honestly didn't give anyone a chance that could have taken it and helped I've watched the try-outs and the pre skates and he missed at least 5 good quality kids that could have played Midget Major AAA I've spoken to the kids and 2 of them were 92's and 3 90's now one of the 92's is going to Michigan to play Midget Major AAA and then move on the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League but, if TI wanted to make a run at nationals they have lost it.

The other d at Mission may have the four year deal, but the real deal is the the Big C who is leaving Mission to go to CYA. The other actually is the third or fourth best.

Mission website news is starting to sound more like "the scouting news" than club news. Promoting a recruited 91 goalie that hasn't played a game for the club is one thing, but to talk about the other 91 goalie that left to play prep school is another. Couldn't talk the one who was in organization into staying under the pretense of more games? He did pretty good at the selects too.
Hype the recruited goalie program at Mission and forget about developing inhouse talent is a new low. But, at least they admit to it, one can say that is honorable.
Good job Mission on returning NO goalies from last year teams into your Midget program!

Goalies are told to pack their bags, and get a uhaul after a good season as part of the "Goalie Development Program" everywhere. Look at the former clubs of the 91 Goalies at MM this year...Culver, Junior A, Junior B.
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
'91s Olen,Davis, and Morris were the responsible for that team getting the wins they did. Morris if anyone looks into it only lost four games all year. He was recruited away by prep schools as they see him as an IVY league student and player for the future. Let's see if their new recruit can say he only lost four games after next year.
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
three prep schools had contact with my son and two of them Exeter and Deerfield mentioned that they were hoping to get a '91 goalie from Chicago who they had watched and had been recruiting for months. Just the facts. This goalie wasn't told to leave he was begged to by elite schools with exceptional hockey programs.
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
For Mission to be advertising their goalie recruit as the next coming in net is an insult to kids who have proven themselves in the Mission jersey. Time will tell if this "find" does more than Mission goalies who have moved on.
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
What would the Cullen move be?Seems Lateral move. Miller at MM has to be move up. Pisselini to college move up,Morris to prep school could be considered move up as he will be playing against older kids then at MM level including post grads. Bantam Major goalies both to mm move up not lateral. Who hasn't made a move up? Considering that many goalies making USHL this year are coming from Prep school have to consider where opps. are coming for goalies.
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
Don't know where Cullen is from but heard he was a great goalie and should be an asset to the team. No doubt Pisselini and Teglia moved up. The negative posts surrounding the new goalie sounds like jealousy and sour grapes. Must be coming from previous goalie parent. Shame.

"Johnny is one of the best prospects I've ever seen," said Mission Director of Hockey Operations, Chico Adrahtas. "He's trememndously competitive, vocal, very intelligent, and very confident. He's also a natural leader, something you want from the goalkeeping position. It's a reflection of his character that when I asked him to tell me about his play at the Festival, he immediately chose to talk about how he tried to get his team to pull together from Day One based on their common goals. This young man has a chance to be really special."
Can any kid live up to the hype? Mission needs to tone it down. How well does Mission know the kid, how much have they watched him? Hope the kid isn't a victim of this all this club PR.

Do NAHL sign? What do they sign? Kids come and go in jr. leagues. What would they sign? Agreement to play billets? think whoever said Paps is signing doesn't what they are talking about. once tryouts are done their no longer are any tenders. They are meaningless. Only hold you to a team until you either make it or get cut. Paps was tender but didn't make the cut of the team that tender him.

Pressure post was about all the Mission hype hurting these young athletes who have yet to really prove themselves to the levels the articles talk of.
The future Olympician, the goaltender who lead a select team( at a camp) and is a special talent, the '93 who, "his hockey IQ and his phenomenal passing skills" set him apart. All this is really just marketing for the Mission at what cost? Turn it down, these are kids and men are writing these articles only for self-promotion.

Past performance is no judge of what the future holds. There are more kids without hype who will in some cases go further than the hyped players. Hype is some peoples justification for profiting on kids at parents expense. Those people will never change. Good for them if they can get it...

Smartest thing this late in the process is to bring up the 92 from the minor team. He already played minors last year. He's more than ready. Then you just need to find a backup for the minor team. Major team is the flagship team for any club. And goalie is the most important position on the ice.
Otherwise TI may trade us a goalie for a defenseman. Does AHAI allow trades?

The St. Louis Selects are a team put together by two eh NHL'rs, Paul and Gino Cavallini. Paul also had an independent a few years ago called the St. Louis Americans.
I dont know his motives but there are two schools of thought.
1) It would be "challenging" for his son to make the Blues AAA in his minor year so he formed his own AAA team to have a place for his son, and kids who would not make the Blues AAA MM team. Guess it would not be the first time a coaches motives were accused of being this.
The other school of thought.
2) He enjoys developing kids and giving them an alternative opportunity other than the Blues MM or Central States. He has all kinds of his connections and "scouts" lined up and this may even be a better opportunity to get some recognition.
I know which of those I believe but some facts are irrefutable.
-he has several 92's on the team.
-he has some 93's on the team as well.
-he is a very good coach
-he did a good job with the Midget Minor (U16) Blues last year when he was the coach.
-People feel very loyal to the guy.
By the way, the he is Paul Cavallini.
But that is the story of the selects in a nutshell. They are independent and have no league to play in. But they are supposed to have many games scheduled with good opponents.

Why was TI coach on their bench for the semi's against St. Louis? The night before TI had over 20 penalties against Nevada. According to USA hockey rules JM should of been suspended for that game. Once again TI breaking rules.

You're the dummy if you really beleive that. USA hockey rules apply anywhere in the US. Other coaches in the tourney sat because their team had more than 15 penalties so don't give me any of your BS. TI's coach JM should not of been on their bench in that semi game period. Maybe AHAI should be informed and they could make a decide on the matter.

So Blues whining? Talk to the tournament director. He makes all decisions. Sorry you couldn't win on the ice. Maybe you can do better on an anonymous board, coward. Maybe the refs cost you the game. Maybe your bracket was too tough. Maybe the schedule was against you. Why on Monday? Why not last weekend while the game was going on or right after? Paul and Gino have the better St Louis team anyway, whiner.

Why don't you ask St. Louis' head coach? Marchi told him himself that he was sitting out because of the Nevada penalties. You people have no idea what you're talking about. Marchi watched his team win the St. Louis game from the stands.

Both had good showings. Mission wasn't ready for St. Louis afer blowing out every 8-0. When they had some true competition they struggled. Fury gave CYA a great game. CYA was out shot by almost two to one and came away with the win late. Great game by two teams that competed well. TI hasn't won an early tournament in years at MM so great for them to take this one early. CYA and Mission were the tourney winners last year but in the end it was TI at Nationals so early success is great but development as a team is what takes you to Nationals. St. Louis appears to be the team to watch in the Central district this year.

With Il. having some of the highest fees for hockey in the country why is it that many orgs. only have one coach on their benches during games or at practice? With all the fees paid shouldn't there be at least two and three coaches on benches, especially at the MM level. Noticed that Mission has had only one coach on their bench at the MM level for a couple tournaments. TI MM has a staff of three as does Fury with CYA having at least two coaches on bench for most games. Watched teams from across the country play so far season and all had at least two coaches at the MM level with most having three.
With all the "professional" coaches have to believe the fees should cover two to three coaches on the bench, most if not all orgs. from other states are gettting it done this way for considerably less.

Ya and a 4 bedroon, 2 1/2 bath house costs a lot less in Michigan, too. What's that about? Why don't we get as much house for the same dollar as they get?

As a lot of us probably did, I was paying some close attention to the USHL Futures Draft and the main thing that popped out to me was that NO Fury or CYA kids were chosen in 12 rounds! If your promoting a program not having any of your kids picked I would think does not look well for your organization.
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
We are one month into the season, there is still alot of season left for all the boys to be seen the rest of the year. The USHL and NAHL have their big draft at the end of the year. I'm sure some of the boys missed here will have a chance then.
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
What's surprising is that parents assume just because their kid plays AAA at the MM level that they are going to be drafted. Like it's that easy. By now you would think that you'd learn that there are a lot of great hockey players from all over the country, not just IL. Scouts don't look solely at the MWEHL.
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
So if talent at MM tends to go to Mission and TI and the scouts watch those two teams without noticing the other two orgs. the undrafted kids from Mission and TI must really have been written off. To have had the views and not be taken instead of not being watched and not taken, which is worse?

It depends on what age level you are talking about. usually we dont start watching kids until ages 14-15, but if an exceptional player catches our attention earlier then will will take a look. WHL/USHL look at players a little earlier because they draft these kids at 14-15 to play major junior.

CYA takes the first game of the series. Lind is playing for Steel this weekend, must have been the difference as Tynan was difference in loss to Fury. Guess they can't win without these first round USHL future draft picks.

CYA takes first one without Lind and ties second one with Lind shown on roster scoring a goal. Tynan took a ten and two for roughing. What's with him trying to be the tough boy? laughable, hope he knows in the USHL he won't get by with his tough boy act and will actually have to drop the gloves and take off the helmet and go if he thinks he is the tough boy. Sometimes he pounds his stick like a mite and others he thinks he can go with the tough boys. Can't wait to see him adjust to the USHL.

So, what's your point. Any team could beat anyone on any given day. You can't win them all. I believe the Illinois major teams are pretty evenly matched.

Think all the responses are to the posts stating that top talent in Il. gravitates to TI and Mission. Remember that Mission's PR machine works over-time to let everyone know they have two college recruits, two USHL draft picks, and are loaded with kids who they believe to be college players, so for CYA to take three points on a four pt. weekend is notable and says something about these "normal" players.
On the other hand, who would know how good CYA is as they have almost two lines of out-of-staters, unless you have followed hockey from coast to coast no one would know who about the talent that might be at CYA

LA Selects is a top MM team which is rated higher than the Mission. Why would a player move from top team to Mission who has struggled to beat Chicago and St. Louis teams? Lind is gone so there is the opening but for LA player to come must be more to story.

What is up with ssm? TI has struggled early this year with the exception of the one NAHL tournament so is SSM really having a difficult go? game report?

MYHockeyrankings.
Know that it is based on strength of schedule etc. and TI fell in rankings due to performance out East but when looking at records against common opponents it seems like Fury and CYA have done better in league play which is common opponents than TI and Mission and are rated lower. CYA has beat Mission and tied them, beat Caps twice whereas Mission has lost to Caps once and never beated CYA. Interesting to see rankings with having watched teams play head to head. TI's record is probably worse of Chicago MM teams yet are ranked higher than two of them. Does reputation have anything to do with these rankings.

What a turn of events. Fury was one of the top teams at the West - Chicago Showcase in IL 3 weeks ago. Every team goes through ups and downs. TI did out east, CYA has been up and down all year and Mission has had a dose of it too. The U18 level is so tough and competitive that every weekend something new happens. That's what makes it so fun to watch. I'm sure the Fury will bounce back. The IL level of U18 is so wide open, will be fun to watch over the rest of the season. Can't wait to see the IL teams take on the Detroit teams in December.

Fury was the top team in the Chicago Division based on record prior to the West Showcase. When the West came to Chicago, the Fury had the best record of the Chicago Divison Teams going 4-1-0 in the tourney.

Will be interesting to see how many team highs came in Sept. and Oct. Hard to keep teams developing when kids and parents become focused on themselves and where they all are headed and lose any sense of TEAM. Best story at MM last year was how TI came together at end and ran the table until the National final championship game against Shattuck.

good coaches know that beginning of year wins often come due to raw talent. by end of year the best coaches will have taught systems that work for the talent they have and have taught players how to adjust to other teams play. games become much more strategic as year progresses and these strategies are adjusted due to make up of both teams on ice. coaches who talk of how their system or how they did it before often aren't consistent winners because they can't adjust to their talent level or the level of teams they are playing. Hockey is all about learning and adjusting. Watch a game critically and you can tell the coaches who get it. Hard work and grit will get a team so far, talent will get a team so far but the good coaches are the ones who can have both, teach and motivate.

have watched MM for years and enjoyed the state play-offs between Marchi teams, Linkenheld teams,Saban teams, Sorensen teams,Pedrie teams,Adrahtas teams, Macuik teams throw in Brackenberry too. These teams thru their seasons not only developed players but teams. The competition was intense, and at times better than most games at Nationals. We are lucky to have most of these coaches still coaching in Ill.
top jr. coach told me one time that he loved taking kids off of Chicago teams because these kids knew how to work, how listen, how to learn, how to travel and the grind of a long season.
look at the Chicago boys who have gone on to Captain their jr. and college teams.
looks to be another strong season for all four Chicago teams, the battles look to be intense and the potential for development great.

the long awaited matchup is almost here, what do we think is going to be the outcome of this weekend between Mission and TI? most of these players played in the U16 state championship series last year when TI pull out a victory noone thought they could do. A couple players switched clubs, Sherer went to TI and Mission picked up Miller. I'm calling for a Mission win on Saturday and a TI win on Sunday
Any other predictions?

I can't understand how a parent or player wouldnt finish out there season. The family has payed the fee's already, were's the upside about staying home for the rest of the season? There no way a player at the MM level could have a complete no love for the game already. I can't believe this is about ice time, at this level they know when they try out if they are a 4th line player. It couldnt be a total surprise now. Any thoughts ?

Can a player be voted off his AAA team by his teammates? My son came home from a '94 practice and told us that the MM of our organization had "voted" a player off their team. How does this happen when teams are tried out for, cards are signed, and financial commitments are made?
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
As a parent of a MM player from the same organization as your 94 I can assure you that your 94 came home with the wrong information. No player was voted off the MM team. I would strongly suggest that you contact our hockey director who would be happy to explain the real story which you are certainly entitled to as a member of our organization.

Love to hear it!From whose perpective? Can the MM parent from this team tell the story? Was the hockey director there? Thought he coached the minor team?

Best player on ice was cut from both teams played for Force for half season and picked up by CYA. Moves his feet, has a motor, and willing to do the dirty work along the boards and infront of the net. Bruno seems a good fit for him as at Fury with Pollos last year he was never given a shot to play anything but the role of mucking it up. Confidence and skills seem to be back. Good to see what a change can do for a player.

Watched Pat Kane take a penality in the third last night, so tell us all about top players not taking penalities in the third. If that was Pollos' excuse for cutting this kid he needs to realize he doesn't know talent, or can't develop it.

Bruno's team is winning. He has been able to recruit, replace, and re-build CYA. He has brought in kids not only from across the country, but from other orgs. and gotten them to play as a team and is developing them into a nice group. Even with his need to replace a player mid-season he is picked up a Fury cut that is proving to be a player. His practices are planned, and focused. For all the critics of his not developing players by years-end they may have to take another look.

Strong Argument for only 3 Illinois AAA Orgs
No score for this post
December 29 2008, 12:23 PM
My son was with that organization last season and never was even given a look for the MM team because the Fury MM Coach was going to pick his own team this year as he had his previous team picked for him by the time he joined the organization. Now I am so glad that he wouldn't give my son a look as my son is with another Chicago AAA team and while things are not perfect, the players are treated with respect - kicked in the butt when they need it but also praised when they really step up. I sent the Fury MM Coach a thank you card at Christmas for forcing us to go to another org. However, I do feel badly for several of the families who did stay as they have really nice players and the crap that is going on at the Fury MM level is just very sad. Players quitting because it is nothing but screaming all the time - note: no player was voted off the team the Fury just has some typical idiot hockey parents who need to make drama up. Two very good coaches left/quit/were fired because the hockey director and the head coach decided to define their roles in the middle of the season. The players that came over with those two coaches now hate the Fury even more and there is more division on the team. Now the hockey director has made himself the new MM assistant coach because the the players need two huge egos to scream at them because one just wasn't enough. I wonder if the Krapper now gets a hockey director paycheck, mm head coach paycheck, and MM asst coach paycheck - nice. Watching the Fury MM play before our games this weekend was tough. You can tell there is only 4 or 5 plays that show up and give a 100%. Maybe Kevin Mann, Jim Marchi, Larry Pedrie, etc. are right in their opinion that Illinois would be much stronger if there were only 3 (or 2?) AAA orgs?

Fury had every opportunity to accomplish their stated mission their first spring but did not. It was almost as if every goal stated by the HD turned out to be the opposite in actuality. While I am unaware of the problems with the MM team cited by the above poster, this organization is a prime example of how Illinois hockey would have benefited overall if the fourth charter hadn't been granted and left only three AAA organizations. There simply isn't enough true AAA talent to field four teams at each level - no matter what birth year. I'm not saying that the Fury should be the club to fold, only that there should be no more than three AAA clubs to spread the existing talent more evenly and weed out the roster-fillers.

It looks to me all 4 midget major teams are competitive with any team in the country. The arguement to limit the teams to 2 or 3 is self serving. Every year one team at every level has issues and it is as much the chemistry of the players as the coaches. If you have an axe to grind with a particular coach, so be it.
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
Didn't sound to me like the poster had an axe to grind with the coach - if anything she sounded grateful to him. If the post is true, I would bet that the two players and the two coaches that quit might have axes to grind with this coach. I also think it is an over simplification to call multiple players and coaches leaving me season rather than sticking it out two more months common chemistry problems LOL
First two posters make a good point about AAA in Illinois. Fury is an interesting case study to watch. They dumped a ton of money to lure coaches and a hockey director in. Granted last year was their first official season and what did they have, one team make it to the state playoffs and still lost? Many will be watching the state playoffs again this year to see if they improve on this showing. I hear that their '94 team is the only one that has a shot but will only be a runner up.
As far as their MMs, I can't imagine this will be good for recruiting new talent to the Fury MMs next year. If I remember, they have mostly 90s and 91s too.

Who else would send a "thank you" note to a coach for not showing interest in their kid. What, like the coach regrets that decision. LOL. He isn't smart enough to reflect in that way. As for the mission folks/coaches moving to the Fury, anyone with a brain cell saw that coming. Mission egos thinking they were going to run the show at the Fury after wearing out their welcome at the mission. even funnier. Team division began the first day that crew stepped onto the ice.

Fury MM coach was unable to retain top talent when he came in and took TI and other orgs. cuts his first year. Loss of Petersen, Schrotenboer, Davis, Orange first year upon arrival was tell-tale sign of his reputation and abilities as a coach. Did a good job in recruiting assistants and some top players from other orgs.this year but still lost Baumgarten, which was another sign of his ability to keep talent on his rosters. With what has happened with Chicago recruits this year look for the Fury to struggle for future recruits. When you are able to get some talent, and fail to play and develop it and loose players and recruited coaches mid-season it doesn't look good for the future.

Mission manages to steal three points from CYA. While CYA has managed to take many points in league play they have struggled with the local competition.
Why hasn't the fury 7-1 game been posted on pointstreak? Under appeal?

CYA struggled with local teams? CYA against TI 3 and 1, CYA against Mission 1 1 2, against Fury 0 2 2. I wouldn't exactly call that struggling. By the way Mission took two points from CYA, they tied 2 2 Sat. night so they each got a point. Get your facts straight CYA hater.

-TI has had their ups and downs all year long and had a HUGE win against CYA in the first game of state. With a Mission win today, they can clinch a spot in the championship series with a win vs Fury

better ??? what happened to fury? players who have left since became fury better off than those who went there. last year Peterson,Orange,Holmes and Schrotenboer all left when new coach came in all won state. this year Baumgarten, Garavaglia,Basisli,Antonelli,Bicknase,Weisenhofer all either cut or leave and are playing tonight. whose happier the kid who got recruited to fury, or those who cut? oh yea that coach got three tenders two for alaskans and one for a minnesota kid. looks like they can keep their college guy cause he doesn't look the ushl, maybe nahl. BB's job should be pretty secure he had his team at top of division, what about NP?

They are both clowns. BB & NP are yellers and screamers without instruction. THEIR TEAMS GET PASSED UP AS THE SEASON GOES ALONG. Another note, BB's job is secure? Not with the two parasite brothers. They have learned how milk the owner guy good. They get rid of BB, the older dope gets the coaching salary and splits the concession stand with tweedle dum. That's all that's left of that carcass.

Boy is sure is easy to come on this website and rip into a coach or an organization and not sign your name.
Regarding the Fury MM team and Coach Pollis I'm sure he regrets some of his choices among the 90's he kept and also with some of the Fury minors who he cut and/or told to go elsewhere. No question he should have kept three if not four of the 91's Kapsalis had. But he didn't. He made his own decision and he went a different direction.
As for ripping the him for getting the 90's last yr a shot at the NAHL Alaska teams at least he go them a shot.
We continue to read about the Fury boys who left and are better because of it....
The parents may be better off because alot of them are playing in the state finals with Mission or TI.
But what about Mission and TI. Where have they placed any of these former Fury kids?
The answer is nowhwere................zip, nothing.
With the exception of Tynan, the Mission MM team has placed zero kids at juniors or with a college committment..
When all is said and done any kid at any of the four clubs just want a chance to keep playing. Alaska junior A (NAHL) is a lot better than ISU Club. The boys just want a chance.
So you former Fury mom and dads keep getting liquored up in the bar and then come on this website and rip the Fury and Pollis. At least he keeps trying to get these kids to the next level. Funny how these former Fury dads keep shaking his hand when their at the rink then they hide behind the computer and rip him...
Why the handshakes maybe its because they quitely hope he may still call his former players if he can place them anywhere. Way to go former fury parents...

Can someone with extensive hockey knowledge tell me what NP brings to the table for a serious player looking to go D1. Don't give me a shot in the NAHL. Any College scout will tell you its junk. 15 players with partial scholarships this year from NAHL. 2 teams in the USHL have that covered.

to defender of Pollos, here's a little bit of education for you. If hockey can help you get into a college like Il. and you can play and have success like Il. has had you may have the better deal than going to the NAHL and lanquishing there.
The club team at Il. has been a great experience for many Il. players coming out of AAA and top AA players,as well as those who have moved on to the USHL or the NAHL. This team has won two National Championships and as recently as last year went undefeated.
Players like Drew and JJ Heredia both played at Il, with Drew Captaining the undefeated Champions last year. Drew was drafted into the USHL in 2004 off of the TI team that took second at Nationals returned to Nationals with the Mission the following year and had offers from USHL and NAHL teams but chose to go to Il for the educational opportunities it availed him.
Current Roster of IL. includes Tim Gilbert who played two years in the USHL for the Waterloo Black Hawks, and wore the A his second year. He again chose to attend Il. and play club hockey to get the educational opp. it offered.
Also currently rostered are Hoelzer and Jennings, one who was roster with the Waterloo Black Hawks and the other who had opportunities with the Steel before deciding to attend IL. again for the educational opp. along with the hockey experience that team offers.
Nemeth also chose to play for Il. and was tendered by a NAHL team, following his play at the Mission for Linkenheld and the Sabans.
DJ Kohler had NAHL opportunities as well but chose to attend Il for the education it afforded him.
So to say playing in the NAHL is a better opp. than attending U of I and playing club hockey, is perhaps an uninformed and uneducated decision.
If a player would not be unable to make it educationally at U of I, perhaps the NAHL is the best route for that player but to say it is better to play in the NAHL is a blatantly uniformed opinion, and nothing more. Most player's goals in the USA are to get an education and still play hockey at a competitive level, U of I offers both, the NAHL may be a means to getting to some schools but very few players get to D1 level out of the NAHL and even fewer with a full scholarship or get to schools offering the level of education U of I offers players.
Pollos may have placed your son or someone you know in the NAHL or got them a tender to a NAHL team but if education is a goal, for many U of I is a better alternative particularly in our current economy: instate tuition, low playing fees and a top level education as well as a highly competitive team. Again, this is only available to top level students so U of I may not be available to many NAHL players.

here's hoping that whoever wins today can get it done at regionals against a St. Louis team that is one of the best in the MWEHL this year, a Madison team that seems to have come alive at the last showcase or a Team Wisconsin team that has a lot of college commits on it. It won't be easy from here on out so here's hoping the Chicago team that finishes this out can get it done as they move on.

Ill club better than shot at D-1. That is very funny. If you're a good student UofI is always available even after a couple years in juniors. It even sounds from your bragging about all the boys with junior experience on the club roster that playing juniors may be a prerequisite to being a top player at UofI. And UofI is an excellent graduate school. Its only OK for an undergraduate degree in most majors.
If you're good enough, follow your dream. Ignore the sour grapes you will hear from those who couldn't follow theirs.

I don't know that it's sour graphes so much. I think his point is that there are many ways to follow the dream, and D-1 Club is one of them. Not every kid wants to put off college and live who knows where with who knows who n some junior hockey town. Other kids see it as a great adventure. It just depends.
I ran into a kid yesterday who used to play with my bender son. He's a true freshman on the Wisconsin-Platteville club team. He said he was having the time of his life.
For him, the dream is club hockey and college in Platteville, Wis. No, it's not Wisconsin or Michigan or BC or the Fighting Sioux, but the kid's having fun.
Two 90s chased the dream this year, got D-1 college deals out east as true freshmen and were back with the USHL teams from last year by Christmas. What does that mean? I'm not even sure, but it's worth thinking about.
Questions all players and parents have to ask themselves:
What is your hockey goal?
How realistic is your hockey goal?
Is it an achieveable goal, a dream or pure fantasy? Remember, at Mites every kids going to their NHL in their own mind?
How much are you willing to sacrifice?
What are you education and life goals?
What do you want to do after hockey ends? Remember, the world isn't getting any less competitive.
One other point -- when you start talking about the NAHL, EJHL, CSHL, SWJHL, GLJHL, etc., etc., these are businesses. They need sweater fillers, and they hope to make money on their investment. Are you using the game, or is the game using you?
There are all sorts of questions to ask and answer. I just think blindly "chasing the dream" can at times be foolish and irresponsible. Create and achieveable plan that matches your realistic goals then get after it 110%.
Let me leave you with one last question then I'll go back to bed . . . How many kids "chase the dream" and use ice hockey as a crutch because they have no idea what else to do with their lives?

The boy could play AAA, drafted into the OHL, played there for 1/2 season, got cut to the OPJHL, following year started in the USHL, cut to Jr. B for the remainder of season,...............then quite. Hockey was not the most important thing to him, he's now very happy in his career!
Another kids story;
He never played AAA, but was a pretty good AA player, went to Junior B, enjoyed the journey, then promoted to Junior A Tier 2, was just offered NCAA D3 full ride via grants and aid. Not bad for AA kid following his dream! There are many paths up the mountain, many different dreams of our kids.
Moral of stories; Relax and enjoy the ride-it's short and over soon. Support your kid in whatever choice he makes.

Besides NW and U of Chicago, U of I is best undergaduate around here, public or private
Illinois' high rank leads to more applicants
The University is ranked No. 10 in best public schools nationwide by U.S. News and World Report. In the most recent rankings available, the College of Engineering is ranked No. 4 in the country, and the Graduate School of Library and Information Science is unsurpassed at No. 1.
The University is establishing itself as one of the best in the world; just ask one of the 25,000 students that applied to attend next fall. Yet, with only roughly 7,000 spots available, not every applicant will wear orange and blue next fall.
William Harrison, a high school college consultant at Highland Park High School in Highland Park, Ill., is not surprised by the number of applications that have flooded the admissions office. "The combination of affordability and education at Illinois is second to none."
High school seniors accepted to the University will have even more reason to celebrate than past classes because the University's admissions office received about 2,000 more applications this fall than last year. But why?

Those boys have nothing to hang their heads about. They played hard. If you weren't there don't be commenting. Those boys stuck together as a team. A lot more class than judging parents.

this result was not shocking. the team was mediocre at best. they pulled together in the end for a short/lucky stretch but when it came down to it, they didn't have the horses.

If we had two AAA MM teams instead of four watered down ones, ILLINOIS would do very well, I beleive, on a national scale. Depth killed the Mission, and unfortunately the depth is here, it was just on another watered down team that was watching at home.

Just remember if ILL went down to 2 AAA teams, Michigan would go down from 5 to 3 , they and others would also improve. How many kids are going to D1 ? Do you really need to win a regional? I would think if ILL could double or triple the amount of players they put into the USHL or D1 most would be happy.

Then AAA would really be the best Illinois has. The teams would be better and the players would get better faster practicing against other better players. Also Illinois teams would do better at tournaments and league games and that does make a huge difference in the minds of scouts at Juniors and colleges.

So kids aren't getting to D1 because they aren't playing with the best in Il. and aren't developing? The NTDP in theory takes the best talent in the USA at any age and they aren't more successful at placing kids in the NHL. Talent is talent and having less teams isn't the key. Il. teams have been in the National finals consistently yet the placement has stayed pretty consistent at D1.
USA hockey is taking a lot of money and trying new things but until everyone realizes throwing money at problems and hiring more administraion isn't the key. USA hockey is looking to reduce players allowed to play at the higher levels but more bosses doesn't mean better hockey. They will be just messing with a system not bettering players.
John Moore never was selected for a NTDP program, never drafted on a USHL team, and wouldn't have been a part of USA hockey's program; yet he is the only first round draft pick to come out of IL. in years.

The exception proves the rule. You don't set up an entire system for a once in 30 years exception of a kid who grows 6 inches over two years.
Yes, fewer teams will mean better development for the players on those teams IF the best players are picked for the teams. The past and present show that spots are for sale at every club in Illinois.
Significant numbers of 92s didn't make Majors last year because they are all Crosbys. It's because there weren't enough good 90s and 91s to fill four teams. Same for most of the 93s playing up next year
Remember if AAA is reduced to two instantly the quality of AA and/or HS hockey will improve. Late bloomers still have ways, especially through the NAHL.

USA hockey throwing money around like the government

You set up the system with an administration-heavy highly paid group of former coaches? Until USA hockey can fix the mess they made of the NTDP why would anyone believe their "new" system of player development countrywide would work. Why does Mn develop the most players? Not because they travel the farthest, have the highest paid coaches, or a lot of paid administration. THEY HAVE THE MOST KIDS PLAYING HOCKEY, working with experienced coaches of which many are volunteers, at rinks that doen't over-charge for ice.
Again, until USA hockey can show that the NTDP isn't a mess, with the good-ol'boy attitude where eyes are shut to the drinking, and womanizing of it's players, who would buy into another good-0l' boy system.
Time to get out of growing the business of hockey and back to getting kids to play, and allowing for them to play competition. When Mn isn't buying the system time to step back and realize why.
Does anyone think that top players like Suter,Kessel,Johnson, needed the NTDP or that the NTDP needed them?

Scott Paluch has stepped down at Bowling Green to be a regional manager of USA Hockeys American Development Model.
Every regional manager is said to get a base salary of $85,000.
USA hockey is a growing business in a time when NHL teams like Dallas are struggling to pay the bills and arenas are going thru name changes due to the financial industry woes. Just like our government they have money to spend, but whose money is it?

ADM " We will not only make hockey players we will raise your children"

USA Hockey recently unveiled a new initiative tabbed the American Development Model (ADM). It provides, for the first time ever, a blueprint for the 2,500-plus associations across the country to follow for optimal athlete development a blueprint based on sport science and consensus child development research. At the core of the ADM are long-term athlete development (LTAD) principles.
Same child develop research used for the NTDP? Does include any school, any parental input? Or do we turn all players over to these "experts" in "sport science" and "consensus child development researchers".
Are these the same guys that were involved in the NTDP? Gotta love it, now they know about child development? Laughable.

Sounds like some plan developed for a Communistic society. We will tell you what to teach, how to teach it and who deserves to learn it. We will have scouts watching and unless you follow our plan you will be punished and not allowed to play "our" game. Now drink the kool-aide and pay the fees.

Wrong. Try the foreign travel and extended trips. Plus due to their location travel to Kearney, Neb. will have them leaving Mich. at least a day before they play, example: Thrusday travel for Friday game. And who is paying for the team? USHL teams are profit generating, USA hockey foots the bill for NTDP. Not like a USHL schedule or funded by private business.

NTDP will have to fly multiple times, or do they bus to Maine, and Boston,NY and for foreign trips. not quite just like USHL. NTDP needs to be dispanded and funds spread to general development. Canadians don't have National program but seem to compete if not beat USA hockey. Oh yeah it's a numbers game, and their new system of control will grow the numbers? Making hockey elite hasn't improved performance.

The one big difference to be noted between the two national teams and a USHL team is the players on the national teams are ALL in High School. Some sophmores some juniors and seniors.
A USHL team will typicaly have only 1/2 of the kids in High School, less on some teams.
Big Difference...mentally and physically!

Grillo, whose record was dreadful on paper, and was just as problematic behind the scenes -- players leaving with ill will, players signing letters requesting his dismissal, and so on.
