USHL is an older stronger league so to think all those '92s are going isn't realistic.
Strength and size play a factor. CB from TI was taken in a futures draft only to end up in the NAHL this year after being cut 2X from USHL.
Mission's Bellavia has no defensive skills and has played with the same two Mission players for five years. Not a USHL player at this point by any means. Lind and Tynan might be USHL ready but other two '92s stretch. Other Chicago '91s stronger and more USHL ready than two '91s listed from Mission.
TI's list of USHL '92s is a joke. If anyone has watched this draft few USHL teams will take Chicago's smallish forwards. By no means will that many '92s be taken in the USHL draft.
Fury's list should be topped by Tullis at the '91 level. Kubiak and Davis are works in progress have to get stronger. Fury's other Mission defection much more USHL ready.
CYA Pierson '91 may be their top '91 but hard to say if USHL ready. CYA's Hall might be best shot at '92 from there for draft. McKay may be only goalie being looked at for USHL at this point in Chicago.

Russo at the 93 level may go before 75% of the above players. He looked and played well in last springs steel camp. Has the size and skill, by next Sept he should have the power. He's going. |

Can't go in futures draft. He will go in Spring USHL draft not futures eligible. Just the facts.
Ask around know the facts before posting.
Futures draft may not be the best situation for many players. TI's Murphy and Bournazos were taken in the draft and it ended up being a negative for both. Murphy's handlers worked for a year to get out of the team he was taken by and Bournazos never made the roster of his futures team and was limited by the draft to them.
Need to be educated on draft. This is a three year commitment(for '92s) that only the USHL team taking a player has a say in.
Dad may be able to pump his chest out but in the long run the team that takes a '92 controls when, where and if he plays in the USHL for the next three years if taken. Ask Murphy and Bournazos families if they still think futures picks were good thing for them. |

'91 goalies Morbeck and Morris are much more likely to be taken in futures draft than McKay. McKay needs to play with new regulation pads to be a real consideration. Until he goes to the smaller pads he isn't USHL ready. USHL would be a huge adjustment for McKay to make with the pad switch that will be required next year by USA hockey. |

Morbeck(91) and McKay(92) are the goalies. 91's...Tullis from the Fury; Schrotenboer from TI. Not sure about Mission or CYA. Possible 92's Tynan, Scherer, George, Hall and Hickey. |

'87s got the pr machine not likely to make USHL roster, check out numbers from last year, not top '91 in country by any means, Fury, Mission, and CYA have other '91s much more USHL ready. Even TI has '91s more likely taken in draft. |

Here are the current affliated lists of the USHL teams. If Chicago people think that more than a couple Chicago kids ever end up on these lists here is the reality. Believe Allen may have been dropped by Sioux Falls as he tried out for other USHL teams after being cut in the Spring. Believe Tyler Maxwell is currently in CHL so may have been a drop as well.

If the Steel's most recent goalies are USHL ready then Morbeck and Morris will be superstars at that level. The Steel's two goalies picked up from prep-school are not ready to play MM in the Chicago area rather than on what could be a top USHL roster. The Steel has the makings of a winner this year but unless they get the goalie position figured out they will have loss after loss coming.
65 goalies at tryouts and their goalie guru comes up with these sieves? Forget the futures draft Morbeck would be a good pick-up for the Steel right now!!!! |

Mission's '93 that is playing MM isn't eligible for Futures draft and is headed to NTDP so won't be going in Spring draft. He already has his college locked up and is headed to Notre Dame after the NTDP unless he is sidelined by an injury, or has academic difficulty. Many NTDP players of late haven't had the academics to get into top schools but if this player stays focused on school and hockey he should be all set. |

Again the idiot 93 parents infect a thread that has nothing to do with them. This is about the USHL. There are no 93s in Illinois who should be playing MM. Even though a couple are playing up they are playing like 93s so far. None will play USHL next year. And before any of them plays college it will take a lot of hockey and physical development! Now back to the regularly scheduled program... |

In regards to 93's in IL. I agree. But, the USHL has a 93 playing in Omaha? How does that work?
Also, the 92 from IL playing in the USHL. Hows he doing?
Seems to be a rush for some, and others wait. |

Omaha is struggling this year so their '93 isn't getting to play with any top end talent. About Il's '92, didn't your mother tell you if you can't say anything nice not to say anything at all. Thus all the silence about the '92 d at Tri-City. the Chicago MM teams got to see Des Moines take it to Tri-City on Sat. night. Balch looked great, four point game. |

draft today, and the weekend showcase had a lot of scouts making getting their final look at these '92s and '91s for the draft.
Mission's surprise might be the '92 foreigner who could be a top pick for a USHL team, size, strength, grit and a shot. Not a highly PR'd Mission player but real USHL potential.

Bliss is just getting to know and work with his team. He had to make some roster decisions after Fall Classic and his team is a work in progress. The '93 on Omaha is a talent, and will be given every opportunity to succeed. May see more ice than many older players. New coach, many new players (due to their success last year) so their roster may continue to change. Seem to be going in right direction. |

Not one '91 from Chicago in draft.
Two Mission '92 players in first round, two TI '92 in later rounds and Miller now playing for Belle Tire in late fourth to his goalie coach's team.
pre-draft call that few players from Chicago would be taken right on. |

They will just have to keep beating teams like TI and Mission to get noticed. Sometimes it's better to be the underdog and keep proving yourself. Three years is a long time for someone to have your rights without ever getting there. McKay,Hall are better than many goalies and D taken and not one '91 was taken so how could CYA and Fury '91s feel any worse than the TI and Mission '91s.

In the end, it is about the hard work and commitment these boys give to the game. Draft, Tender, etc. Those are TEAM advantages, not player.
If you are good enough to play at higher levels, you will be noticed and most important - play where a coach wants you and will help advance you playing to college and beyond.
I won't use names, yet last year the Mission had MM boys drafted in the USHL and they are not playing there. Yet, they had one player who came from AA, moved up to Tier III Jrs mid-season on his own. Then was tendered this spring by a veteran ex-NHL player, now coach to play NAHL and is in the starting line-up. This kid never had a sniff, yet made it by working hard and was seen.
What I am saying is that kids need to keep committed to on and off-ice work. And stay out of trouble.
Yes, it is a dream and goal for some kids to keep moving up the ladder and they should not let whether or not they are ever Drafted take-away from their DREAMS.
Parents, support you kids dreams...

It is widely believed outside Chicago that the top talent at the midget level navighate to TI and Mission. Therefore the scouts feel just by looking at these two clubs they are watching the best in this area. If you are on CYA or Fury your coach better be working over time to promote your ability to compete at the next level.
Outsiders tought is: If Im a top player in Chicago Im going to play on Mission or TI, So if Im going to scout a player from Ill, I will watch a TI or Mission game and see the best kids...
Right? |

No. Not necessarily. How would you then explain the drafting of kids from weaker teams. It's not about the team or what team they play for, it's about what a scout see's as potential. |
|
guest (no login) 205.188.117.8 | teamsNo score for this post | October 15 2008, 10:21 AM |
The talent in Il. is pretty evenly divided. Coaching at all teams is much more even now and talent spread pretty evenly. TI lost and beat Fury. Mission lost and beat Fury. CYA has only played Chicago teams in tournaments so hard to judge how they stack-up. TI's weakness is D. Mission may have the most college recruits but time will tell over-all success. Mission's last year mm team is proof that talent doesn't always mean wins in the big games. CYA and Fury may be the teams not expected to do well but may be more balanced on D and at forwards.
These two teams being written off after a couple weekends have had strong showings so far. TI's player losses to CYA at goal and Mission's losses to Fury and TI at forward and D make all four teams much more competitive.

With all the goaltenders taken in the draft anyone surprised McKay and Carruth didn't go? Another goalie not taken was Morbeck. Does he have an injury or why wasn't he played more over the weekend with all the scouts there to see him. TI's record wasn't that good this weekend were they playing their other tender to make up for all the times he has sat already this year in tournament play? |

To Outsider, It is not widely beleived that the best players navigate to TI or the Mission at the MIdget level here in Illinois. They have for a while now been going to TI consistantly. The Mission on the other hand has had a poor reputation at the Midget level the last couple of years. This year they have seemed to change the tide. The Fury is still a pretty new program but has been very competitive and I'm sure will be sending more and more players to juniors in the near future. As a matter of fact they sent more players to juniors last year than the Mission. CYA has done a very good job devolping and sending players to juniors the last couple of years. I see their coach everywhere talking to coaches and scouts from arround the country. I've counted over 20 players in the USHL or NAHL from CYA's last two seasons. All in all the four Chicago teams seem to be able to compete and beat any team in the country and ILL. players are starting to show up on junior rosters in every league. Good job Illinois programs. |
