Was at the rink last night for the last hurrah of the 2008-2009 season. Spoke with several parents of skaters of all ages. Is ANYONE signing up for spring hockey ANYWHERE? Not one person last said that their kids were or had any plans to sign up. What's going on?

The economy?

I know that's got our family quiet for the Spring. If we had all the money in the world than we'd go everywhere and do everything, but sadly we don't and we can't.

But, good topic. Others?

Our tier 2 has only 30 kids signed up for Spring out of over 250 fall players. Wonder what the rinks will do if no one plays spring? Will any of them pull up the ice for the spring like in the good ole days?

does anyone not make this team? it seems as if almost every AAA player in illinois makes a team. come on the 95 CYA team was "challenged" to say the least and they have multiple players on this team.

no, this camp choses select players, and is not entirley accurate. Coaches from each team "recommend" players form their teams (aka their favoutites)

coaches do recommend their skaters, but ONLY if the skaters attended college night. then all coaches receive the forms to fill out and rate the skaters on a scale of 1-10 for the committee. college night is open to all skaters at the appropriate level. then the recommendations follow.

how "select" can this process be when a team that won 2 games gets so many players names to this developmental team? whatever makes people happy...

you are right, like i said.... the "select" players are probably the only ones that went to college night to begin the process. i agree with you on the few in question though.

AHAI College Night WAS a requirement to get invited to the Prep Jamboree.

There is not, and never was, a prerequisite for any other invites.

For the most part, all AAA kids attended college night. It's mandatory for most. I agree that some selections are a joke especially from the cya team. There are very few players selected, if you'r one of the tops, it doesn't matter about those few gimme's. 1 goalie, 2 D and I think 6 forwards are all that move on.

The best thing for spring is give your kid a break. Let them relax find a sheet now and then but, most of all let them find other things to do. Do the conditioning before try-outs and then 100% again.

Which Spring Midget AAA Program Is Best?

No score for this post
March 8 2009, 11:10 AM

Mission, TI, Fury and CYA will all have Midget programs. Which will be the best in terms of program quality?

For those who have participated before what was the experience like?

Consider these factors:

1. Number of teams for mm and MM
2. Creating teams with both mm and MM players (may be good for mm players to mix with MM, but not MM players)
3. Amount of individual player attention from coaches -- real development from top coaches
4. Amount of team attention from coaches -- real development from top coaches
5. Bringing in guess coaches from college programs
6. Format -- just scrimmaging other teams in the Spring club program vs. participating in tournaments etc.

Some programs seem to be nothing more than practices with scrimmages against other teams in the same club with little or no development taking place.

Club websites don't say much -- just that it's meant for players who want to try-out for AAA or Junior A in the Fall (generating fee income by creating false hope for most). Given that,

Which club offers the the Midget level best program?

why doesnt one of the clubs step forward and say they are going actually TEACH the midgets something?
All year long its games, games ,games how bout some skating and skill work?
Its not too late for these kids to work on some fundamentals. They have from now untill next Sept to work on things that coaches "cant" focus on during the year because they "have" to win every game.
Work on the skills players need to execute power plays and pk and you
might have something!
