Most of the kids have been/are on the radar that are in attendance. The combine helps as a fundraiser and solidifies their interest in the USHL. Yes, open registration was late last fall. They were then vetted to attend. Many of the kids were asked much later in recent months due to their interaction with various USHL teams and scouts as a result of playing in the T1EL.
There are many roads in getting to the USHL. The combine is one of many, as the combine next spring carries much more weight as it is closer to draft day.

The process does work. I have two players already been through the process.

Unlike the USAH festival, which is a series of back door, hand jobs and all out collusion, with under 50% of the attendees selected and over 50% are atlarge bids. A very small percentage are high end attendees. The higher end stay home and book CHL, USHL and NAHL tryouts.

The USHL is looking for the proper fit as there are jobs/credability on the line. There are many ways to get there.

I had one go through the process before we moved to Minny..IL 97 talent has under 10 D1 players as it stands. A lot of weak bodies but it is still to early but those Mission kids that were given a pass on the team are truly physically not ready for much.

Skilled and committed some will mature and grow and they will be fine... so put Cyber Clown (CC) on ignore he is very shallow person.

The mental part of the game starts in Juniors and the parents of these kids have not done them any favors. I hope they all make it but it is so obvious to the hockey world when someone is not mentally tough.

If not in top 10% of HPHL or T1EL....D1 is a long shot. However, You might concentrate on getting your player through Jrs first. As the competition is a bit stronger than that of U16/U18. One level at a time.

They have to get there first. Many verbals have been reversed as well written commitments. All it takes is a regime change.......they will select who they want.
Seen Dean Blaise do it more than once when he was at ND. Seen a Minn kid have a ride to Notre Dame, only to get injured and get it yanked...coincidently someone else has picked him up.

If you are eluding to a 97 getting a scholarship......that would be a verbal commitment. Alot of variables come into play, in the next few years!
Possibly, if the kid is a legacy to the school that commitment could stand the test of time. Many opportunities will come for many top athletes. Many tough choices lie ahead and they best have a very good adviser.

I have been following this thread and he's not wrong.. ND gives out a lot of verbals not any locks on the Mission 1997 to early. You also got beat by a high school all star team of the same birth year 3 or 4 times and once when it really mattered. That's the truth without all the bantering. Good Luck and as always stay in the present moment.

I am amazed at the staying power of so many weak 97’s at missallornone. The season will bear me out.
BTW how did NY go? EP locked in as Gopher…how did the boys from Illinois do? (que sound of wet shit plopping to floor).

Some of you must know who CC is. Why does he persist in finding reasons to insult people? Does it make him feel even smarter than he already thinks he is? CC, why don't you try being nice, see if you can make a friend or two, and derive enjoyment from making others feel good rather than telling them how pathetic they are. You exhibit classic signs of a personality disorder. Seriously, a psychiatrist might help you. If you already have one, it might be time for a second opinion. If you are smarter than most of the other people on this board, if you are well-adjusted, if you have every reason to treat others on this board like the dogs you say they are, and if you have lots of friends who think you're a great guy, then please forgive my observations.

It took me 5 minutes to try to stop your negativity while trying to get info on this board. I won't send you a bill, but you do meet the diagnostic criteria for more than one personality disorder. Say what you will, but if I were you, I wouldn't ask for a vote on that from the lay people who have been reading your offensive comments. You may consider this your second opinion if you like. Talking to a counselor may make your happier.

False smear

No score for this post
August 27 2012, 2:29 AM

Blues coach didn't say that his 97 team would wipe the AAA teams out. He simply showed a willingness to play all comers and entered top tournaments which would accept his team. CYA declined to play the Blues as a "no-win" proposition, Mission backed out of a game scheduled for a Sat night in Oct,2011, and TI played the Blues in the schedule spot left open when Mission backed out. Blues 97 team played approximately 30 AAA games in the past 2 regular seasons, including games against several teams ranked in the top 20. The Blues are a AA organization that offers its players the opportunity to compete at the highest levels for a fraction of the AAA cost. At the end of last year, its only disappointment was losing with under 1 minute to go in the semi-final game at USA Nationals. Being one of the top AA teams in the country was a true accomplishment. All in all, a good team for development and competition.

Keep drinking the koolaid buddy. Midget hockey is where the rubber hits the road. Your kids should have skated with a AAA team this spring and hit tryouts this fall. Staying together in Midgets at the Blues will get your kid nowhere. Midget AAA hockey is watched by many scouts. This is the age and level where Hockey Futures are decided. If these kids are as good as you say they are then they should have made the move. You won't believe how far apart the Blues and all four Chicago AAA teams are this coming fall. There will be NO comparison.

I wasn't making a comparison between AA and AAA for mm hockey. Players wishing to advance should play AAA to maximize their development and opportunities.

My response intended to set straight the misinformation that the coach of the Blues made any comments about beating AAA teams. My comparison was limited to the 97 team over the past 2 years.

Ok, I’ll do it. Here we go…Blues mm will go 500 vs. IL AAA. In addition, IL AAA is not the only way to move on. IL AAA is for the most part a bad joke in the hockey universe. Plenty of options exist for top level AA or CSDHL players to move on to D1 or JR A. All one needs to do is look. Please don’t be obtuse in thinking that AAA is the only way. I speak from personal experience. JR A; locked in; D1 signed commitment is sealed and delivered. IL AAA had nothing to do with any of it. Work hard, play hard and study hard.

The JR A opportunities are actually is a result of a D1 offer. My 97 has played mm/MM hockey 3 years for an independent team both during the regular season and summers. He has forgone offers to play AAA at his age level in both the HPHL & MWEHL in favor of his current older independent team. By far the summers have been the most fruitful for both his development and personal success. I believe his performance in school had just as much to do with this summer’s developments as his performance on the ice. That being said my son’s coaches are very active in placing players in various credible winter/summer showcase tournaments and then promoting the kids which I feel has been extremely beneficial.
AAA is not the only way, especially in IL. Just look at the kind of idiots like CC that permeate AAA in Illinois…do you really want to hitch your wagon to the same horse…
We are happy to have taken the route we did it worked well for us.

The other way is to be related to former NHL player.....seen it work many times. However, if it takes him more than a couple yrs to be called up, Jankowski will make his career in Europe.....just watch.
Many players on the NHL fringes opt for Europe/DEL, tax free, free housing, cars, expense accounts and half the games, half the wear and tear of a NHL schedule.

Um with all due respect the series would be over in four straight. But what would be REALLY nice is if these guys would now transition into telling us who won and how. I do not mean the dreaded "we didnt have this player"
"the refs screwed us" crap either. I mean they moved the puck in transition better than we did, outshot us, but our goalie made a ton of saves, we were more physical, they could not get a breakout, they plugged up the neutral zone, ran a great forecheck, ya know HOCKEY stuff.

What a narrow-minded elitist you are. My son chose to play HS hockey instead of AAA. However, he does love hockey. What does you mean by being "serious" about the sport? He is passionate about the game and spent 4-5 days a week on the ice for years. Now he wants to focus on homework and can do so with practice near home rather than having to spend 5 hours on each of three school nights every week traveling to and from practice. He also gets to play in front of friends -- make that girls-- that come to watch. He also gets to play and train seriously for another sport. If he played AAA, would he make juniors or D1? Odds are that he would not. So he can devote himself primarily to that dream, or he can focus on the academic and social aspects of high school and play for enjoyment. He knows that the caliber of hockey is not the same; his HS team has few players with AAA experience. He is comfortable with his decision, and so am I, particularly at an annual savings of several thousand dollars. He learned from hockey what we hoped: teamwork, discipline, self-confidence, and first-class athleticism. The elitists like you don't get it and justify your choices by criticizing those who don't share your path. I have plenty of AAA parent friends who aren't like you.

Off season independent team play is usually by invitation. At u16 & u18 kids are starting to age out of some popular tournaments and may achieve better personal results by spending more time in the gym than on the ice during the off season. Beat the bushes during the season to find the best fit for your off season needs.
One approach is to form your own off season team (20 players) IF you find enough other people who are interested. A word of caution; you must have two or three reputable and skilled coaches on board and I would suggest at minimum 2 90min slots a week. So sharpen your pencil.
Or…keep it simple and do showcase tournaments. At this age these are usually attended by a small group of scouts depending on the reputation of the showcase host.

Dont forget NAHL and USHL skates as well.

It was done in Wisconsin and could easily be done here. The runts would be run over and it really is that simple. A lot of high quality 15 and 16 years olds who choose not to play AAA/AA. I could pick the best 20 from a much larger talent pool than Wisconsin. Sorry but those are the facts.

Huge difference between IL and WI

No score for this post
September 27 2012, 6:59 AM

When you state that Wisconsin has done an all star team from HS keep in mind that is picked BEFORE anybody goes to the Capitols or Admirals. Up there it is the best deal to play on Team Wisconsin (Usually best coaching too) than on the AAA teams. Madison's program has really gone down hill in the last 5 years.

Now keep in mind when you go to pick your Illinois All Star team 84 of the top players in the state are not going to be available because they are already on a AAA team. Notice, I did not say the BEST 84 players.

I am simply pointing out the difference with IL and WI. My son played in both systems. This post has nothing to do with the difference between AAA and HS.

First CC, none of the 97's is playing Jr A right now. Only one has been tapped so far & most likely won’t play any time soon, so put a sock in it. CC, you have coughed up plenty $$ for an extra "A" as well. As for Best Man or BM...Yeah school is cool but success in life is not guaranteed just because Jr goes to the "right" schools.
BM does have you beat on ROI CC...IMO BM's $$$ is better spent. I suspect CC; you are beginning to realize this as well but at this point are committed to stay the course. Which is fine; different strokes for different folks. There are many ways to Jr A and the NCAA.
Wonder if BM’s kid received any scholarship $? If so then his kid would actually be making $ to play and get an education….(sound of mind blowing up).

Don't have a dog in this fight. But winning is winning. Whining is whining. Most "huge" tourneys like Bauer, Warrior, Beantown, have contracted champ rounds.

You play what is there. Someone wins and that's a win. Maybe if 3 periods it would have been by a bigger differential.

A hockey game consists of 3 periods and if it takes a OT or shootout. Two periods is a incomplete contest, especially at the youth level where you can keep sending the top line out there because you are only playing two-thirds of a game. Thus a asterick is there to note the tournament was won by playing incomplete games.

What it means is nothing.

The schol is not on the hook for anything and the player by no means has his future locked.

After a year or two in the USHL his options will be more solidified.

The verbal does mean that he is on the radar of the top schools.

Good question. I don't really have an answer for that. I would guess that they want to get the hook on him early.

Many things can derail a players career. A major injury, lack of academics to get in certain schools, coaching changes, etc...

If he received a verbal he is definatly a step above his peers.

But a verbal is only worth the paper it is written on.

Although I don't have a vested interest in this argument...What this does mean, is that the guy who was on here saying that the Mission 97's had no D1 talent was wrong. It's early and they already have a Notre Dame commitment. And the mouth even mention this kid by name, and said he wasn't a D1 kid. Well guess what?! Notre Dame disagrees. You were wrong! Not that anyone on here would be man enough to admit they were wrong. But of course we are talking about a scum bag who would name kids on here in a disparaging manner, so I'll assume no apologizes are forthcoming. Regardless, even tho the Mission guy is obnoxious, he wins.

Best of luck to Mission this weekend. Excellent team with high-end talent that deserves its #1 ranking. Central District bracket is very competitive with three loaded teams - probably the toughest district in the country. Hope your weekend is successful and Pittsburgh is in your future.

Most of your "favorite" boys chosen 4-5 years ago, ,given extra chances or treatments regardless of fairness or other players performance ,chosen mostly b/c of these parents influence or french benefits, are going backwards and nowhere playing mm next year.
Some "French benefits" did not help(subsidized living,Hawks tickets, help with team activities, kissing ass).

without degrading their achievement. Mission has been the top ranked team in the country for much of the year. They just won the toughest district championship in the country. I for one (and note what team my son plays for) simply want to congratulate them for winning the opportunity to represent Illinois and the Central District in Pittsburgh. Their are some tough teams and games ahead of them. Fact is I think Mission have played and beat many of the teams in Nationals. You can never count out W-BS and their overage comrades, which is a topic for another time.

Mission is deservedly going to Pittsburgh and will represent Illinois very well. Congrats to the team.

Uh...yeah; They probably will win it all this year...cuz they have beaten everyone they are playing at Nats at least once.
The title is already theirs by virtue of being the number one team for most of the season. NOT!!!

ALL THE OTHER TEAMS HAVE THEM IN THEIR SIGHTS. This will be a well earned accomplishment for the Mission players and staff should they be able to seal the deal. This championship above all others (past) is a moment of crowning 10 years of hard work, dedication, sacrifice and development. Their success will forever quiet their detractors and lend credence to all past boasts.
It is this matrix that is the Missions mm Achilles. I fear that if any team gets the jump on them they will crumble like a castle in the sand. The missing elements are still the same as they have always been with this team and if exposed will rupture the balloon.
I do wish them luck in clearing this hurdle...if they are successful this will be a launch to "another level". If they fail; its a footnote.

IMHO

Congratulations?Success?..really.How many players will move on to next level? NOT MANY !!!.Most 97 were deprived of their opportunity by selfish coach CM whose only goal was to win using average 96.Very little emphasis on moving or developing individuals and the best Illinois -97's he has had in the system for so many years. It it a shame for both coach and Mission organization, truly lost year !.

WOW amazing U16's win national's and all there players are
bad, none will move on , bad coaching etc. Let me ask
the above poster, how much acid did you drop when Janis
Joplin hit the stage on that special day in Woodstock?
All that 1966 windowpain or purplehaze has damaged you well.
How many kids will move on from the NJ Rockets or the LA Selects,
Westchester Express, Victory Honda or York Sincoe
you dope? There is NCCA talent on that roster, the Mission
has a great track record of moving kids along, check the 1992's
93's 94's etc. USHL loaded with Mission players, NTDP etc. All kids
will learn to sit the bench and or be cut sooner or later, it
just happened sooner to your's, GET OVER IT, HE HAS!!

I agree with the Fan.Last year 5-6 96 moved on to USHL,joined NTDP.Also, recall 94's.Compare St.Louis Blues or Compuware 97's !What did CM do with his state- best 97's.Did not care about them, did not promote them.I heard that is the reason why he was removed as head coach for next year.He coached this 97 group too long anyway.

Fan and WHO CARES your heads are lodged so far up your buttholes
it might be a new world record. You guys gotta stop droping acid
cuz i'm convinced it didnt end in 1966 like Peace and Love suggested.
I didnt realize it was still available.

To suggest that most 97 players were "deprived of their opportunity by
a selfish coach" is preposterous in the extreme. There were only 4
96's on the team most of the year!! Did he play short handed the entire time?
Cmon man!!!"Lost Year" winning a state, regional and National title... are u shittin me.
wow.

As to CM moving on to the 00"s you should be able to figure that out
yourself but it had nothing to do with not promoting his 97's.
I'll give you a clue:Who runs the Mission?

Where is the beef?

No score for this post
April 9 2013, 8:04 PM

Again,"teams do not move ,individuals do" so where is the beef or 97's moving on?.My coaching experience tells me most of them will have to grind thru mm again, hoping for miracles the glory-past 96's did not get this year!Consider ST.Louis 97's or Compuware 97's as I had chance to monitor over the years.Development-minded coaching staff at these clubs actually formed long -term 97 line which resulted in NTDP invites. Not at Mission

Now you really opened up can of worms....I heard number of parents complained to GC back in December and directed this motion toward again "winning-minded coach" who apparently numerously limited or "deprived" most promising 97's to 2 shifts a period, not a players development avenue and only concentrated on his "favored boys".

Facts are facts and just because one may not like the messenger (CC); the truth is what it is.
The Mission mm players and staff deserve a standing O for the success of this year. Clearly the team and organization was able to keep their eyes on the prize.
I can appreciate the frustration of a parent who may feel that Jr should have played a bigger role. However this is a team sport and not all the players can be stars of the game.
Support your player and encourage them in all they do…life is quickly bearing down upon them and as some of you have obviously seen, life’s lessons can bitter sweet and hopefully motivational.
CONGRATULATIONS MISSION mm.

The Mission has a record of get a couple players a year out of 82..That's not bad.
