Best to check the website of the club nearest you or one you've heard good things about.

U14's at Bruins, Falcons, Winnetka, Wilmette, Yellow Jackets and possibly 1 or 2 others.

Wow, good move Falcons. At least someone is trying to build their program, and not just looking out for their little boy. Sounds like the Falcons get it. Unlike Glenview.

Not a good coach, kicked out of Northbrook with many issues. If he didn't have that superstar girl on the Glenview the team wouldn't have gone too far. The Falcons will learn of their mistake. Not right away, because he will be on good behavior, but wait until Decemeber, they'll have enough of him by then and ask themselves why they hired him.

Scott Berger is a great coach, he just couldn't deal with all of the whiney NB parents. He did win a National Championship, and let's not hear about it was all because of one girl. She was good, but look at how many points were given up, and how many shots on goal. This wasn't because this one girl. They were a great team.
Let's not have bitterness about the Mission either. Just because you kid didn't make it, doesn't make it a bad organization. Keep working at it.

Whiney parents is the excuse? Sorry but every organization has that and a good coach defuses that. The problem is his temperament and communication with parents. He's ok with teaching skills, but strategy and overall development are weak too. He will be exposed in Highland Park a few months after the honeymoon is over.

He won a national championship in girls hockey and that means something? Please, there aren't enough teams for it to matter, and even fewer that would travel across the country for that fake title. Even on the boys side the USA hockey "national" championship is a joke due to the missing states.

He won a nice year-end tournament.

I don't have a daughter that plays so I can't answer either question. But I do know I would not want my son playing for him, period. Maybe he is better with the girls. Good luck to the Falcons, with Berger you will need it!

If your intent is to provide information about this guy, then please give examples. The vague "this guy is no good" thing is not helpful for any of us. It is hard to understand your feelings if you don't give concrete examples as to why you feel that way.

1. He berates the kids at practice and games beyond any normal yelling and motivation. I'm not opposed to yelling at all, berating I am.

2. There were at least two major incidents on the team last year, one resulted in a serious injury, and no I will not get more specific or name names on this point.

3. Poor communication with the parents

4. Poor bench coach, more specifically, distribution of ice time, executing game situations--lost many games that they were the better team, annoyingly loud on the bench (so he should fit in fine at the Falcons!)

5. Several skills were not improved on during the year. A lot of the kids couldn't catch a pass at the beginning of the year, which might be ok, but didn't improve at the end of the year. Same with positioning, same as cohesiveness of the kids, same with shooting. Just no improvement, teams that were tied or beat at the start of the year were not beaten or sometimes even competitive at end of the year.

6. An estimate, but I'd say maybe 2 parents on the team approved of his coaching and the year. They had some talent and potential and did nothing with it.

That's all I got.

Obviously your kid is a thumb sucker. Scott motivates not berates. Keep making excuses in life for your child and he will live with you forever. Scott won a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, yes he had a very talented team. He worked with the same team last year so he had a slight advantage. The Illinois teams were not comparable. That same U12 team beat Triple A teams in Illinois at the U14 level. The competition at Nationals was comparable. He was very, very hard on every single one of those girls, but he helped them keep their goal in sight. The difference from the whiney parents from NB to GV??? The GV parents believed in him. Falcons are lucky to have him.

Thanks Scott, but you know you will be exposed by Thanksgiving and what's perfect I know Tom Miller and most of the guys over in HP so I can validate the spiral. Feel bad for the girls they deserve better. Then again, you'll only be there 1 year they'll get over it.

Not a Northbrook parent but a parent that knows he's an average coach at best with poor communication skills. He might be better coaching girls, but with his issues they'll come up no matter who he coaches. The problem too is he thinks he's a real good coach and pretty arrogant. Falcons will be very disappointed as time will tell.

Sorry, didn't have a kid on his team, but I was mistaken he's doing 4 teams. Hey punk, I'll pay for your kids hockey if there aren't multiple complaints from different parents at Falcons by November. How do you coach 4 teams, when you can't handle 2 like he did last year?

A youth sports coach's record NEVER "Speaks for itself". Hello. It's kids. Some years you have better groups than others and you just develop them best you can. Some of the best coaching jobs are done with losing teams. Anyone can win with the best players.
