Don't know if I would say top but heard rita beat marist 4-1 and also beat pretty good hamilton se team 2-1 so it sounds like their goalie(s) must be doing something right

Just out of curiosity, how many of these high school teams have any kind of goaltender instruction let alone a goalie coach.Or do they just take some shots at practice.

Two great goalies so far:
Barrington's Senior Goalie (Samiola or something like that)...stood on his head against NTG and is solid all around
Marist's goalie is the only reason Marist did anything in the NPC tourney...he must have turned away 45 shots a game.

Most of the high school teams have someone working with their goaltenders.GBN,Mount Carmel,Providence,Sandburg, york just to name a few.It seems that most of the well run programs have something for the goalies if not an actual goalie coach.

wow there are some pretty uneducated people on here. terry hughes was a laughing stock at that school over on 77th and western getting detentions left and right and not paying tuition and just being and all out menace. he thought he was hot shit dressing like he was black and what not. he is now at SHEPARD not stagg but good try on that one. there are schools that have decent goalies but the fremd goalie is by far the best one out there. not far behind is the rita goaltender. he has been makin saves everytime out, and im not talking about the huge transformer that stands inbetween the pipes for the mustangs every so often. all these other schools goalies are a laughing stock compared to this.

I think the MC will turn out some of the best goaltenders this year. Barrington, PR and South all appear to have good tenders in place. Though while watching these kids play, watch the play in front of them. Most judge a goalie by his recorded stats, truth is the stats can be misleading. If a tender has great team play in front of him, the shots he needs to stop are easy and not challenging. If the team is struggling, and the quality scoring chances increase, the true talent will show. So, don't be overly impressed with Wins, GAA or Save%. You should watch for all stats along with the true skill of the goalie in that game and the situations he needs to deal with. oNe may not win a single game this year, but still be the most talented goaltender.

This is for the Rita Goalies and their parents.

please stop commenting about how good you or your son is. it is obvious that you live on this site because rita doesnt have anything going for them in the goaltending department. a good team can make goalie stats good but given any 2 on 0 or tough situation the rita goalies fail.

I have seen and heard the parents of ritas ogre goalie brag about how good their son is and its hilarious. Rita has some of the worst goalies in any league and rita players have admitted it.

PLeasee stay off this site. you or your child arent going anywhere with hockey

im sorry but last time i checked im not related to a rita goalie let alone any of the rita players. on top of that im not even one of the goalies or the players so you should probably check your backgrounds next time before you start critizing people.

first off you need to give these kids some credit. they work day in and day out just to play some high school puck. #31 is 1 of the hardest working players i have seen in a while. no we are not talking about the ogre that you speak of because you can probably back up that his parents have talked him up, yes we all know that he isn't as good as the other one. but! you can not take away from the fact that rita's number one goalie is one of the top in the state hands down. nuff said.

Rita parents need to get off the board. Neither goalie on Varsity is worth their pads. I have seen both and nothing worth writing home about. 16 and 3 better score a ton of goals to offset the ones going in which will be plentiful. The best CCHL goalie, and I am not a fan of his, is from Marist. If they had players in front of him, they could make a run but he alone, will make that team contend.

One of the best goalies in metro central this year is Rowe from CG. I think him and Saviola are pretty equivalent in terms of their overall skills, with Saviola having a bit of an edge due to the more experience that he has.

CLS Kristensen can play with the best of them.

Mom K,
It is nice to see you standing up for your boy, but I assume he has been playing this position for many years. He must be ready to go in at any time. If he isn't weak goals will go in. Now that we all know he played in both losses to Bar and PR maybe you should have those stats corrected on the MC site. EB should have to carry TK's poor performance on his stats. This would also fix the artificial numbers on his.

parents reality tends to set in at the midget/hs level, nothing wrong with it, just different than what they been used to.

the never ending argument

AAA vs AA vs HS, Blah, Blah, Blah.

Fact is there are a couple of great goaltenders in AAA. Another fact is there is also a lot more just as good playing AA and HS. These kids never played AAA because of $ or time or location, in many cases politics. But I guarantee you that there are goalies as good as most and better than some playing AAA that currently play HS and AA. AAA is parent ego driven and nothing else. I saw the USHL draft list, and didn't see all those AAA kids getting on the list. If they want to keep playing they will have to play Jr. A III, Jr. B, East coast, West coast. Then if they really prove themselves, they may get a chance to play Tier II or Tier I. There are also opportunities to play North of the border and prove yourself. But in the end, they will all be in the same place and the cream will rise to the top. I refuse to name names, but I could give you the entire list of AAA tenders, where they play/played, how good they really are, why they are there, political connections, all of it. Some have played AAA, left for whatever reason and now play HS and AA. These same AAA superstars are now average goaltenders. Welcome to Illinois Hockey Development at it's best!

Rita's goalies (#39) and (#20) dont see alot of shots but when they do they keep the team into the game. 39 having 93 save % in CCHL with 5-0 and a 1.2 GAA. # 20 being 4-0 witha 92 save % and a 1.24. those are good numbers no matter what you say.

i was at both games when rita and fenwick played this weekend. on saturday we saw ritas better goali.39. he didnt make it look pretty but he kept the puck out of the net making key saves late in the game. stopping 42 of 45 shots led his team to a 4-3OT win. on sunday rita played the other goalie.20. facinng 14 shots let in 3 weak goals out of four and was pulled in the second.39 came into the game making only a few saves and one goal. we won 5-3 that day. i am thinking 39 is the starter.is he?

i agree that numbers do matter but you have to put into consideration goalies that face a lot more shots a game. there record may not be that good but in terms of skills and how much talent they have, i would gladly take a goalie that sees 50 60 shots a game over an average. york has solid goalies but they dont see that many shots. they also have a solid team infront of them. you have think of teams that have outstanding goalies but they dont get noticed for having a shitty team in front of them. a goalie can only do so much to keep there team in the game and there is required effort on both sides needed to win.

Not to tough to handle 10-15 weak shots a game whwen your on a good team. Look at the goalies seeing 25-35 shots with a save percentage of 88-91 and about 2.2 goals per game, in any division, and youll find your best goalies. There will be exeptions to this but generaly thats where they are.

And of course those numbers are not in his stats. So what are is real numbers? I would add another 4 to 5 goals to the existing numbers amd wopuld guess his save % would be down as also. It is not Tk fault the score keeper did not put him on the sheet in the first Barr game. Yes he let 3 in the net after he came in. A cold goalie comimg in after your down by 3 half way through the 3rd period is not good for any goalie especially when the team in front of him gave up at that point. The second time playing Barr he was in net we lost 3-2 big difference. When a coach is not sure on witch goalie to play early in the season and being EB was in net when we beat PR last year he got the first shot at Barr. and PR. TK has stood on his head every game he has started except for the PR game where the hole team did not play well. He has taken more shots than the top 12 goalies listed. Add the first Barr game witch might drop him one % point oh and by the way you did not tell me how many shots he got when he came in for that game HE STILL IS IN THE TOP 6 IN THE STATS witch the 6 best goalies go to the Allstar game!!! I am not saying CS from PR is a bad goalie just saying TK GOT SHAFTED!!

That was exactly what I was trying to say. It is not out there. Why one must argue that the goalies with good stats and lower shot counts per game are not good and have it easy is a ridiculous statement. Here is a question or two. How good of skater is your goalie, can he skate with the team, can he skate backwards as quick or quicker than the others on his team? Does he know how to direct his rebounds or even not give many rebounds up? Does he workout on his days off the ice? If he did some or all of these things maybe he would have better stats, rather than blaming the quality of the team. If one would work on these skills, might he be able to affect his stats himself? Less and well placed rebounds would equal less shots. The ability to skate to the puck and pass it to his teammates or just clear it from the zone would equal less shots. Strength would allow one to last the entire game without tiring and would equal less mistakes and probably less shots. So lets not accuse all the kids with less shots but great save % and GAA averages of being only average players with great teams in front of them. Some of these kids have a lot to do with how many shots they get. Anyone can get their body in front of a shot, it is the other things you do as an athlete that distinguish you from the others. And yes, these are the words of the The Goalie God. Amen!

goalie god - you are alomost correct-

Fact is good goalies on mediocre or 2nd tier teams may be (and some in fact are) doing the extra work and limiting shots as you suggest that only the goalies on the top teams do.

The real measures of good goalies are:
1.stolen games (out shot yet you win or tie)
2. save % factored into shots taken

goalies on poor teams can be doing everything you say to limit shots but can still be overwhelmed by poor defense and inept offense.

even JV Goalies can excell on strong varisty teams with solid D and dominating offense.

Here are the stats.

Not seeing the kids play, but based upon stats it seems that they do have this wrong.
Based upon stats unsure how you take NA over MR or for that fact NA over several other kids.
I think this is a friend of friends pick over kids who are deserved of the all-star pick.

MA has seen 140 fewer shots, but has a much better sv% & GAA & he is helping his team win games based upon game reports on CH.

AP on Jacobs based upon stats whould have been the better choice if you wanted to take a kid from Jacobs.

EH on Libertyvill is even rated higher than NA.

I think they screwed this one up or picked friends over kids that deserved the spot.
No problem with CS, MS, but NA?

Put MR as one of the top 3 and TK as the alt would be my choice.

I've seen NA play over the years and he is not even close to MR, TK or several other kids.

Whats the matter? Woke up on XMas morning with no all star invite

Really, as far as goalies are concerned, you can't go by just numbers. You need to actually see a goalie play, hopefully more than just once, to make an assessment of how good they are. Instead of saying that a goalie is good or bad based on a stat or the morons who just want to get on here and say so and so sucks, I would trust an evaluation of a goalie by someone who could give a specific reasons. For example, NTG is good, plays angles well, moves quickly side to side can get up and down quickly or GBN goalie can't move after first save, no rebound control etc. Those were just two examples, I have not seen either NTG or GBN goalie play yet this year so I am not picking on or promoting either one just so this doesn't start another useless discussion on specific goalies.

30+ Shots, 93+ sv%

January 5 2009, 5:54 PM

These are the only goalies that fit in the category or 30+ shots and 93+sv%
I've gone through all Metro leagues, Sihca, ISHL, and CCHL stats. I don't believe there is any for HIT. Please reply if any goalies were overlooked that belong here.

No Team Player Mins Shots Svs GA Sv% Gms
39 Marist Woulfe, Ryan J 672:00 490 455 35 93 16
1 LFA Girls Baldassari,Gabriella 324:00 281 261 20 93 9
35 Cobras Randol, Michael V 168:00 125 116 9 93 4
33 Cobras Daniels, Zachary J 84:00 71 67 4 94 2
31 Fremd Saplis, Joseph M 42:00 35 34 1 97 1

0 MT Carmel Ward, Ronald M 42:00 30 28 2 93 1
0 MT Carmel Oshea, Tony G 44:00 30 28 2 93 1

These two goalies don't fit the 30+ and 93%+ but they were the closest i could find.
CCHL
36 Notre Dame Krautstrunk, Jeremy 612:00 370 343 27 92 12
Metro Central
35 Cary-Grove Rowe, Matt 429:33 300 279 21 93 11

As I stated, I BELIEVE these are all the goalies that belong on this list, I am not saying they are good, they just fit the topic

Not on my favorite team but if I had one goalie to choose in MN to play one night:

OT from LF

runner up CA - NTB

Both underclassman - Good Goalies

From standings

GBN - Limited shots - not strong in net

GBS - Poor rebound control / Big game issues

DF - Numbers decent but up and down

ST - Doesn't show up for all the games

Rita's goalie number 39 is starting to pull away in the goalies in that program. We have played them twice in big games ( being from ND) and i saw that he makes the saves he has to make to keep his team in the lead and to win games. After the last game agaisnt them i do not think that we will see him again, because they have beaten us 7-4 and 9-1. The 7-4 game we had 3 cheap goals.

stats in these leagues can be very deceiving. if you have a solid d in front of you, its extremely easy to be a top goaltender (such as rita, fenwick, PR, and barrington).. some of these goalies are solid but they do not get pounded with shots and scoring opps. they get weak outside shots becuase teams find it harder to break the d.

some of the top goaltenders that i have seen that steal games from opponents and win games nearly by themselves are
ND #36 Krautstrunk - best goaltender in cchl considering defense and shot counts. the cause of many wins
Maine #1 Rice - can hold a very good team long enough for his team to win
Marist - has absolutely no team in front of him and still wins by himself, can come up huuge

Played against Lincolnway Central, LWC has a hand full of kids that can play, but for the most part their team has a bunch of JV players on it. If it wasn't for their goalie, they would get their asses kicked. Their goalie was incredible, I think the kids last name is Nick. I hope he got chosen for Showcase, hands down, he is one of the best in the state.

LT goalie

February 3 2009, 7:04 AM

LT goalie did a great job. He belonged there last night. Big kid and takes up a lot of space in the net. Didn't get overly challenged but made some good plays. White team totally controled the first and second periods. White seemed to relax coming into the third, red came out to play and the momentum changed. 2nd goalie came up with some big saves and a stopped penalty shot and white ended up with the victory.

LWC is one of a handful of teams with under ten loses with over 35 games played. And their goalie is the reason why!

LT plays in ISHL also and apparently does well but for a team that had 3 high school all-stars and 2 showcase players they lost to Rita 6-1 and probably shouldn't even have had 1 goal.

Got to say Matt Rowe, and he is only a junior. AND, this is not his girlfriend, Mother, Father, Grandparents, but someone that has seen him play all year.

Before you think the Stats determine the goalie abilities, find out how often goalie dad does score sheets! They are almots always padded with daddy keeps the score!

Wolfe from Marist, and Kuzara from York.
Maybe not the top in the state, but they're both extremely talented kids.

Boy this really gets ridiculous. You people should make up your mind. What was said here about green is what's been said about rita. According to all you evaluators, there is no good goalie on either green or rita. If that were the case why wouldn't these two teams play with six skaters and no goalie. You make it sound like if green wins 6-2 there were only 2 shots on goal and the green goalie couldn't stop either one of them. If you're going to talk about goalies go out and see them play. Stats don't always tell the true story. I do believe that some scorers don't know what the definiion of a shot is and tend to credit too many shots in a game. Saw the green/rita game friday. Both goalies played very good. Both ghoalie saw over 30 shots not every shot was a great scoring chance. Some shots were slapashots from the blueline that the goalie saw all the way. Some were also on two on ones, in close wristers and redirected shots that the goalies may good saves on by following the puck all the way. Those that want to write off goalies on good teams as being terrible either don't know what they're talking about or have lost to these teams and are just trying to find ways to bring these teams down.

How can greens goalie be so bad if they win so much? It doesn't make sense that they can play 60-70+ games ahead and consistently lose only about 5 of them if their goalies are terrible. Although ritas goalies aren't great, compared to other goalies in the state they look good. High school has and always will be split in to two "divisions". This we had nt la gbn gbs barrington rita and fenwick, after that the rest of the teams sucked and none of them could compete with the best. So to watch a game between two top teams and then bash the loser for being bad, you should try playing them and getting your shit packed like you deserve
