Its one thing to be good, but another thing to consistently win. Green has entered four tournaments this year Bartlett, Loyola Thanksgiving, National Highschool in Jamestown, NY and now Blackhawks Chairities and they have won them all. This team is skilled, disciplined and well coached. It will take incredible goaltending, luck, referees bad calls, luck, bad referees and luck for any highschool team to beat them. They have played 4 months so far and have yet to lose to a highschool team. Simply put, INCREDIBLE!!!!! |

NTG has beaten Nequea Valley 7 to 0 and 10 to 0 this year.
All teams have their struggles, but some teams when they are struggling can't pull out the victory. Thats not the case with this years team, although the scores from this recent tournament have not shown pure domination, they still controlled the game and outshot the opponents a lot to a little. In the case of the St. Viator game, St. Viator didn't have one good scoring oppurtunity. Their goalie played well, and thats why the score was 1 to 0.
Everyone always has something to say about this team no matter what they accomplished, but yes they are 4/4 in tournaments this year. All the top high school teams have been in those tournaments, but Green continues to win. Learn your facts and stop basing comments off scores. You base it off wins. Green has a lot of wins. Every other team doesn't even compare to them. |

I am a NT backer but if you look at the fact that they get to combine the Winnetka and Wilmette programs once these kids get to HS it is a little unfair to most of the other teams except the Catholic schools who can recruit. When the Winnetka and Wilmette Bantam teams are both good to very good then NT is going to have a powerhouse like they had in the early to mid 2000's. Winnetka had two Pee Wee teams go to Nationals back then so it was no surprise that these teas were going to dominate at NT.
They should be playing as a Midget Major team in the CSDHL league every year not as a HS team. I believe there is a strong Bantam group coming through the system at both Winnetka and Wilmette so the next few years will probably be good for NT and NTG in particular. NTg is fielding a good team this year but probably one of their weakest teams since the late 90's yet they still rarely get challenged. I just don't see what the point of their schedule is. Play up if you can and go for it. |

Snippy,
If we follow your logic, then ALL Sports at New Trier have an unfair advantage correct? Same feeder programs in Basketball, Football, Baseball... Same large student body... So why is it then that NT Football has never won a State Championship? Also, your comment about "this team is the Weakest in years" is just false. Maybe not the strongest but still a pretty solid team. If this team based its season on how they do vs Midget AA Teams, I think you would see different outcomes against these teams. They are a HS Team. And a damn good one at that. They care about how they do vs LAG, GBN, Fenwick... Whether they win, lose or tie against Skokie or the Falcons just doesn't matter to Green. However, to Skokie or the Falcons they can walk around in last place of their league and say "But we beat Green" Its the same as Lovie Smith and the Bears. "We suck but beat the Packers" |

The reason nt never has won a title in football because they simply are not producing enough blue collar athletes and football is a blue collar sport to many spoon fed wussies at nt to compete in a rough sport like football stick to golf swimming and tennis up there on the North Shore |
|
snippy (no login) 76.16.66.126 | Re: i could have oneNo score for this post | December 30 2009, 12:18 PM |
NT dominates country club sports (golf, swimming...) and other sports like Lax and field hockey. NTG has also dominated hockey as well for a long time. NT has two State Champs in baseball this decade which is a product of the feeder system. Girls and boys soccer won 6-8 state chanps this decade- also a product of the talended kids, parents willing to commit time and money to their child and so on. NT football has been good but not great and basketball is usually pretty strong. NT has about 100 State Champ and were rated one of the top 10 athletic HS in SI a couple of years ago. A lot of that has to do with the size of the enrollment and the money us parents throw at the programs as the kids are approaching NT.I've had 3 kids go through NT and play mulitple sports there and anytime they can make a team I consider it a great accomplishment for them.
In summary most NT teams are pretty strong even the ones that don't rattle off state champsall the time. My point in the previous post was that there was a window in the early 2000's to really put NT hockey onthe map as a national powerhouse and it was not taken advantage of by the club. If there is a solid group of Bamtam and Pee Wees coming , which I think there is, plans should be made to really start playing a more competitive schedule. Going out East like NTG did a few weeks ago for one decent game is waste of time for everyone. Schedule games up in Minnesota. Maybe easier said than done but keep trying until it happens.
As far as my opinion of this years team I've only seen a couple games and am going by what other parents are telling me. I think they look solid so I'll just leave it at that. |

One last thing. I don't agree with your comment about Green not caring what they do againt the AA CSHDL. When my oldest played on Green these were the games, outside of natural rivals like LAG, Fenwick, GBS and GBN, that they looked forward to playing and beating the most The AA teams hated NTG and Green didn't care for most of these teams. One time the Flames came to Winnetka to play green at the end of the year (right before State)and after about 5 minutes the coaches on both teams decided to make the game a no check game otherwise someone was going to get hurt.
Green beat all the CSDHL teams back then but they were all good games... |

when is ahai going to wise up? benny and the jet from ntg are simply too good for high school hockey. almost every game nt plays, bm has to sit them out because they are scoring too many goals, or making too many hits, or just stunning the other team with their great looks. they are as unfair as rockford, except rockford still blows |
|

you cant talk about ntg without mentioning benny and the jet. these two forwards routinely take the game into their own hands and allow green to come out victorious in close games. they are first and second in points, and they are always getting big goals in big games. i cant say enough about benny and the jet but green is lucky to have them. |

Play some high school prep teams like Culvers prep team not their varsity or go play Shattucks or any of the East Coast teams that are prep teams. Nt is a gvery good high school too good to play in a conference here so quit playing in the blackhawk cup. If you are too good to play in a conference that you and LAG HAVE NO BUSINESS BEING ALLOWED IN THE BLACKHAWK CUP. IF YOU CAN ONLY GET COMPETITION FROM PLAYING AAA TEAMS THEN QUITE BEING PUSSIES AND CLAIMING YOUR STATE CHAMPS PLAY THE AAA TEAMS CANT EVEN BEAT THE CHARGERS WHO ARE A AA TEAM AND A MIND YOU A VERY GOOD AA A TEAM NT KIDS ARE WUSSIES SPOON FED CRYBABY BITCHES |

Speaking for those who are more discerning, NT should keep doing what it has been doing - producing exceptional, well disciplined teams that seek out the best foes and, when necessary, show the rest of IL HS teams what excellent team hockey looks like. Hate the Yankees, hate the Wings, but if you are a fan of IL HS hockey, look to emulate NT - not bash them.
And for the record, I have absolutely no affiliation with NT or its program, just a fan of IL HS hockey that recognizes excellence.

You also need to take into account that other teams in IL could be having "off" years. In the past, Fenwick, Rita, LAG, and GBN have had great teams that have competed with and beat NT. Some of these teams are just not as good as they were in previous years. That's not to say they won't be good in the future, just not as much this year. NTG has had teams that have been much better than this years team that have not one state because there have been better teams in the state. Also consider this years team has 3 sophs, and 7 juniors so half the team will be back next year. |

NT is hands down the one of the top three teams in state every year. That makes it all the better when any team besides them wins the title because they should be winning it every year. LAG dont say shit you guys are just a joke. GBN plays very good puck every year since state titles but talent has been lacking. GBS seems to get injured when it matters most. Fenwick and Rita usually pretty good. |
