lets face the facts, rita lost their entire team, both goalies and good D. Viator is overrated. Providence- penalties will kill them. Fenwick- returning all players except for 1 goalie, 2 D, 3rd line W.
1.Fenwick
2. Viator
3. Rita
4. Providence
5. Mt. Carmel

/fenwick is still number one and has a good cahnce at state but viator is not even rated? on all the polls i have read they are ranked not close to top 8 in metro, and 3rd or 4th in catholic. They will definitely be a tough team to beat though tieing NTG in 2nd game of season

We should have beat Viator-if only some of our rock head players could keep it clean for one period-way to waste a good effort by the rest of us. Ref could have called 10 more penalties on us. That's what happens when you have some of the dumbest kids on the the soutside on this team. We'll play better once they get suspended and/or academically inelligible-we have the talent.

Is there a website for the CCHL? last years didn't come together until the final week of the season. Doesn't surprise me about Provi and the penalty trouble. I know this past weekend was prob opening weekend for the CCHL any other results? is Benet in? is Br.Rice out? what happened to Marist? will Fenwick run the table?

Brother Rice runs a quality program. they have the craziest fans in the state. Gotta get the fans out of the game early. They still run a quality program and will come around soon.

well you guys didnt beat viator. they are a better team, and are deeper. they were three times as fast as you guys. good luck keeping up with them later in the season

Rita will not win it all, they only have 1 really good line and as we all witnessed with Marist last year 1 really good line only gets you so far. Fenwick is the best team hands down and will win it all.
1. fenwick (so much depth / state champs)
2. st. rita (1 line deep/ mediocre goaltender)
3. marist (1 line/ two best players in state)
4. st. viator (always competes and has decent players)
5. providence (doesnt matter how AAA player they have, they cannot win games)
6. notre dame ( best goalie in the state)
7. benet ( 1st year CCHL team lots of upperclassmen)
8. mt. carmel (no one on the team to carry them)
9. br. rice ( whole program plays varsity. may win 4 games)
10. st. ignatus ( hands down worst varsity team in the state)
Those top 4 teams are really good programs, and are well coached and disciplined. its hard to break into those top four spots in the CCHL they will be occupied by fenwick, rita, marist, and viator for quite some time.

haha fenwick looked pretty solid not drunk, marist was the bigger surprise they looked extremely well. very good game, horribly officiated for both sides. felt like a kennedy cup game was being played already, whoever has marist finishing in the top three your spot on, fenwick was on their heels there for bit. long cchl season ahead and im very excited to see these top teams play again expect those two teams to be there in the end. the cup is up for grabs for fenwick, marist and rita everyone else can just watch.

Fenwick had two dmen and two forwards sit the whole first period for discipline. Played only four dmen first period. Would any other cchl coach do this with top team in league? Fenwick probably played as bad as they could have and they still won.

Fenwick was out played that it. provi had injuries and missing players too. fenwick will fall because of poor goaltending. we'll se what happens later in the season

fenwick has a bunch of pansies on their team who think they are sick when they get six points against Ignatious (worst team in the state) and against br.rice who are equally as bad

Real Teams know sportsmanship. I watched a "real team" in Rockford shut it down on a few teams at the PR TOurney and at any point they could have turned it up but didnt after getting to comfortable leads.
They are a "real" classy team with great fundamentals. I would pay to watch them again. Has Fenwick had the pleasure of playing them yet?

The scores that some of these teams are putting up against the lesser teams is truly disgusting. The "poinstreak" mentality has engulfed this league, congratulations. Coaches should know how to win with class instead of putting their first lines out there to collect points in games that are out of reach. It is an embarassment to the league. The game deserves better than this.
I wonder how well these teams will play this weekend against stronger competition when they have to play both sides of the ice??
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
The only thing worse then scoring more goals is toying with the other team by passing the puck around the whole 2nd and 3rd. Pointstreak has nothing to do with why some teams put up big numbers, in fact the teams that win usually give their 3rd and 4th lines some tick.

Fenwick was winning the Friday game 2 - 1 in 3d period until a Fenwick player (#21) leg-checked a Rita player, sending the Rita player to the hospital with a broken leg, drawing 5-minute major. Rita scored 2 goals on ensuing power play. Not an accident... Fenwick player apparently has a history of leg-checking - tossed from games for same before.
A fight broke out in parking lot after the game in Oak Park. Rita student suffered a broken nose. Police were called.

Not the "goons" dad. Just a someone protecting a 15yr old kid from some idiot parent. Is it unfortunate that the Rita player was hurt, yes. Is the kid a "goon" I don't think so. He has one major penalty in 53 games.Know your facts. To say he has a history of "leg-checking" is irresponsible and for a parent to say that you hope a kid "get his" is wrong. The kid didn't get a game misconduct,in fact he got a tripping penalty. If Rita thought it was a dirty hit they had there chance. Oh wait they tried that in the parking lot, how did that turn out. Welcome to the Catholic league.

Thanks to your bender, Rita took a point in both CCHL and HIT. It should be starting to feel like de ja vu, for you, isn't it? Fenwick wins President's trophy last year, and Rita beats Fenwick in Kennedy Cup in 2 straight games -winning the Cup TWO years straight, AND Rita goes on to win State Championship. Remember? You have way too many benders and selfish players taking too many penalties to go far when the post-season begins. Good luck getting fried again, Friar!

Wow, you took a whole point from Fenwick so far this year, you are 0-3-1 against Fenwick while being outscored 18-8. Must be fun for your "bender" to play for a coach that shortens his bench every game. You have guys that don't even see the ice. Hope your proud of your "benders" 3 shifts a game. Maybe there is a future in opening the door.. See ya at the Kennedy Cup...We'll be there will you?

Friars haven't won nothing yet, and haven't in what 5 years? That would mean your bender hasn't won nothing. Mustangs are two-time defending cchl champs (beating Friars both times) and state champs. Dude, that's the Mustangs on Comcast sports commercials.
Mustangs coach plays smarter; is a winner. Coaching is a difference-maker in the post-season. You have guys that see too much ice, and others who shouldn't see any.

Whats wrong with the truth? Both are good kids that made mistakes that changed the game. For Providence to beat a team like NTG they can't afford penalties that leave them playing 2 men short.

Quarter final playoffs start this week. Look for Viator & Rita in the finals. (Top-seed Fenwick will be upset again like last year.) Viator is the hottest team now - recently beat Rita, tied and beat Fenwick - only loss in cchl was to Viator.

We've heard that from you hopefuls for a few years now, like 5 years. Rita is two-time defending Kennedy Cup winner over Fenwick. You guys are always over-confident. Rita three-peat. Coaching is the difference maker in post-season.

Rita and St.Viator will play each other can't meet in the finals.... 1v8 winner vs 4v5 winner... 2v7 winner vs 3v6 winner. I don't think the CCHL re seeds after each round.

it seems like every year we are talking about what a great regular season Viator had but yet we never seem to see them in the K cup finals. it seems like they expel all there energy trying to say that they beating teams like fenwick and Rita in the regular season that when playoffs come around they cant take their game to the next level like the truely elite teams can. Yes they were the only team Rita didnt beat last year but they dont hand out rings for that. It will be the same thing this year when it all comes down to it its gonna be fenwick VS Rita again and Rita will most likely win again.

First, let me say I wasn't there. But this is what most likely happened:
1. Marist first line played 75% of the game.
2. Providence took some bad penalites at some bad times.
3. Both goalies let in some weak goals.
4. Providence had more fans.
5. Game 3 will be more of the same.
Close?

was there, correct in number 1, but place was packet w Marist and Provi, Provi had maybe 3 penalties, only one I would call stupid, Provi goalie let a couple in thru the 5 hole, 2 big defense turnover by Provi led to 2 goal.Johnson for Provi had a hat. Biggest play? With less that 4 min left and Marist up 1, ref calls too many men on ice which clearly was not the case ( got confused when goalie was coming to bench, but forward got off before the extra man got on ) Provi had to pull goalie and rest is history
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
Referee had a terrible game (Check from Behind 5 ft from boards/2 many men - only 5 on ice)
Provi started physical-Marist took stupid penalties, then Provi let up in 2/3
Provid Goalie had terrible game (3 weak- 2-5 hole/one up stick)
Provi-D man 18 took 2 much time out of zone -two terrrible give aways= 2 goals
Marist 1st line 75% - split 26 & 8 at times 26 on D to rest.
Provi only had one line produce. Others lines took night off!

All lot of your recap is true but second PC line scored one of the four goals, forechecked hard and probably tired out. All lines need to take the body. It's there for the taking. We won't be driving to Jerry's to fix skates Thursday so top Marist players will get challenged like they did in game one. Still believe PC goaltending is stronger

I know its not easy being a ref but how hard is it to count to 5. He never checked with the linesmen. Pulling the goalie is part of the game. Get it right.

Lets get our facts straight Marist is just a bunch of pussys who obviuosly payed off the refs and they suck. We are going to come out and kick the living shit out of them in game three and send them home crying. enough is enough and Providence will prevail.

I'm sure youv'e heard that great saves are usually the result of being out of position.
Great goaltenders give up goals all the time and may not have great save percentages, but when the game is on the line you can't score on them. They make it look easy.
A great goaltender simply wins games.
The winner of the Blackhawk Cup Red Division will be the best goaltender in state this year.
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
What?????????????????? I think you are over thinking my comment. I'm sure you have heard that goalies that are IN POSITION also make great saves because they can't cover the entire net. His saves that I called great were not because he was out of position they were because the shooter took a great shot.
Goalies that have poor save percentages in my opinion most likely don't make the routine save when they are in position. How can you call them a great goal tender when their greatness is directly related to how many pucks they stop. Also the goalie you are talking about probably is never given the chance to make a save with the game on the line because his poor goal percentage never gives his team a chance to be in a close game. Stopping puck at all times is important, NOT just at the end of a game. If you do your job during the game it shouldn't come down to "making it look easy" at the end of the game.
The greatness of a goalie is directly related to save percentage. I hope you are not a coach.

let us all hear how provi should have won!!!!!! hahaha.
they looked like a bunch of spoiled pre-Madonna"s tonight? they have nothing to be proud of besides open snack bar and open bar.
Marist deserved to win the game... they were much more prepared then provi. better goaltending, 8 and 26 played about 4 shifts together and MARIST still controlled the game. Provi just looked as if they had no class/ respect for other opponent even after they were beat. Provi should be embarrassed of the way they acted tonight.

You talk like Fenwick got killed. They lost to Loyola 2 -1. Remember Marist only has 2 players and you shut them down like Fenwick and Rita did during regular season play they don't score.
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
From the games I've seen ... Fenwick has 2+ lines of fast skilled players, and work the break-away * odd-man rush as well as any. A medium size team but what they lack in size they make up for with speed and skill. But Fenwick often tries to play a physical game. They get into a checking & retaliation game taking penalties and end up in a game that shouldn't be close for them, or lose. Killing penalties has consequeces for any team - players get tired killing penalties, an explosive offense like Fenwick is neutralized, and they give up unnecessary PP goals - leaving less game time to put pucks in net. Thats how teams beat them.
The question for the playoffs - Will Fenwick play to their strengths or try to play a physical game and get into trouble?
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
Really? Try this one on for size. Fenwick got off to an quick, early start this year. Small forwards with skill put the puck in the net often. Its playoff time now and the Referees swallow their whistle. Physical teams like Loyola just knock the snot out of a team like Fenwick.
Fenwick is a #4 or #5 seed at best right now. A joke they received #1. They will lose for a 3rd time in 3 weeks to Loyola in State and end their season a real dissapointment. Unless you call the 6 team South Side League Championship that they might win of lack of competition an award....
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
Put their whistles in pocket??? Not what I heard last night... Fenwick had something like 10 penalties, right? LAG did a nice job gettin 2 goals waived off, 1 from LAG player intentionally pushing net off moorings (You musta been there, heard it happened 3 times, right? Only called delay once.) Remember, Rita beat your scramblers last year in semis, and will do same if we see you along our way to UC again. Tata.

Loyola didn't knock the snot out of anyone, they beat Fenwick 2-1 and only because their goalie knocked the net off 4 times. I believe New Trier really knocked the snot out of them last night 4-0!!!!!!!!! The only thing Loyola has is their stupid white clad fans that try to initimidate players with personal comments. New Trier and Fenwick have 100 times more class than Loyola.

The finals this year will also settle 3rd - 4th place in State. Both teams coming off tough 1-goal losses in State semi-finals, Fenwick an upset. Rita held New Trier to 2 goals, 1 of them a questionable "no call" puck bounce off scoreboard. Fenwick gave up home ice advantage with game 1 at SIA even though Fenwick is top seed and next 2 games at Edge - whichever team wins game 1 will very likely win the series - no come back down 1 game for either team. Fenwick squad has no experience winning K C or state - Rita does. Fenwick does not make adjustments - Rita does. Fenwick play predictable - Rita will shut down top line like GBN did. Will come down to coaching and player discipline. Advantage = Rita.
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
I agree! Rita is much better coached. Fenwick relied on its talent all year. No adjustments, no game plan. Edge in goaltending favors Rita as well. I do think this goes to 3 games however.

So it was 4 - 3 ... still a 1 goal game and a Rita win, as predicted. A big St. Pat's Day "Thank You" to the Friars for giving us home ice advantage and a BIG win in game 1. It did come down to coaching, as it always does, and the Friars top line was shut down too, minus 1 for the game. Another Mustang sweep of the series?

GREEN SHOULD DO LIKE ST. VIATOR DOES PLAY IN THE METRO NORTH CONFERENCE AND THE CCHL. PLAY HOME AND AWAYS WITH EVERY TEAM IN THOSE 2 CONFERENCES AND THEY WILL BE ONE OF THE BETTER TEAMS FOR SURE BUT THEY JUST WONT WALK THROUGH IT. LOYOLA GOLD SHOULD DO THE SAME THING MAKE THE CONFERENCES TOUGHER AND ALSO BOTH TEAMS COULD THEN COME DOWN OFF THEIR HIGH HORSES AND REALIZE THAT THEY ARE GREAT TEAMS BUT NOT NECESSARILY THE BEST EVERY YEAR.

LAG doesn't belong in the Midwest. This is their best year ever and they won how many games-The answer is two. They would be better served to stay at home and play locally. They have not improved (thus no state titles). LAG needs to look else where if they are to win a coveted Blackhawk Cup
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
Agree with above poster. Also, LAG only returns 4-5 players and back up goalie. The balance of next years Gold team comes from Maroon who just lost to Deerfield in White State Championship. OUCH!!!!
Scoring disabled. You must be logged in to score posts.
Keep in mind with LA maroon they had one senior, 4 juniors and the rest were underclassmen. They played in one of the toughest leagues in state and they were .500 that was better than almost any maroon team in the last ten years. If anything the LAG coach should of put more underclassmen on Gold to give them more seasoning for the next couple of years. Now all he has got is 4 or five possible returning players with a lot of youth moving up. If DJ makes this group competitive next year he should get HS coach of the year for his efforts.
As far as Maroon losing to Deerfield (half the team was seniors). This is analogues to a Midget minor team losing to a Midget major team. Age does make a difference.

Let me understand this. DJ has not won a state title since 1994 (17 years). He has been to the dance and lost numerous times with talent laden teams. Should have won last year and had the Senior Team and Goalie this year to win it and didn't AGAIN. Now your going to give him a free pass for next years team? Are you kidding me? You Loyola parents wouldn't know a good coach if it bit you in the ass! Wake up! Clean house and get a coach that will restore the pride of Loyola! How many years will you sit around and watch this? All I can think about is the Buffalo Bills and Jim Kelly when I think of DJ and Loyola!

They did loose double digit Seniors. But they also had New Enrollment of 30+ Hockey players each of the past two years. That is the majority of the Vikings top two teams and several AAA plaers + transfer students.
Kids and Parents know the talent is shifting away from the traditional CCHL powerhouses. I believe this is the school to beat not just for the next three, but the next 5-6 years.

You are dumb if you don't have Rita number 1. Yea provi is on the up and coming, but horrible coaching and spoiled lil pre madonas. Everyone always puts there rankings up and your always wrong. Look back over the past 4 years at the top 4 teams. Rita, fenwick, viator, Marist. Provi will prob under acheive, viator will do well but new coach might have a lil affect there, fenwick fell off a lil but will still be Okay, Marist lost 2 best players but always are counted out and there they are year after year right behind Rita and fenwick. Rita will always be 2 steps ahead of everyone. Good luck to all cchl teams, have fun and enjoy
it will go like this
1 providence becasue all of the idiots from the previous years are gone.
2 rita because all the providence kids hate them so much and will do anything to beat them and take the cup.
3 fenwick because theyre fenwick and even though the coach is gone will still be decent
4 viator, marist, carmel
absolute terrible. so viator and marist play this weekend at bartlett and it looked like a bantam bronze seeding round game

Glad to see the Catholic HS system is turning out such outstanding young men. Father Justin here with my two cents worth:
1. St Rita: Until someone beats them, they are number 1. Have a strong core of forwards coming back, with an above average defense. However, their strongest player is between the pipes. This kid is a winner with good skills and a better head for the game. They are real tough to beat in their building. Head Coach, although not universally loved, has won 4 straight Kennedy Cups. He gets it done.
2. Providence: The hillbillies to the South will have something to cheer about this year. This program has picked up momentum with great numbers, but what about the quality of the skaters? I think the numbers and quality hav both picked up. Above average CCHL goaltending and defense. The offense remains a question mark, but if they all learn to play together they could, and I say could, give SR a headache come KC time.
3. St. Viator: I think this team can beat any CCHL team on any given night. But what about discipline? This team needs to stay out of the box. Strong group of offensive players will make up for a lesser blue line. Goaltending by their #1 is solid, but how many shots will he have to face. If they control themselves, they just might inch their way to the top.
4. Benet: Full time in CCHL should be fun to see how they adapt to the physical play. They have enough skill on the blue line to keep them in games, but lack of strong goaltending and defenese might close the door on any serious KC aspirations. They will be a welcomed addtion to the league, but I'm guessing it might take them awhile to match the intensity of the other CCHL teams.
5. Mt. Carmel: New coach brings a work ethic and experience to the Caravan. A once proud program that has struggled in recent years. I like the change and speed of this team, but defense and goaltending win games. They lost a very good goalie last year, will this years new addtions overcome that loss? Probably not. However, this is my pick for the darkhorse in the league.
6. Marist: In a word, slow. Team speed must pick up to be considered a legitimate contender for the KC. I have them lower than most, but you can't replace what they left behind at graduation. I don't see them being a serious contender this year. Stronger on the blueline then offensively, goaltending should keep them in games.
7. Fenwick: The mighty have fallen. The 2011 Fenwich edition doesn't even resemble the strong team from last year. Even with the team from last year, Fenwick was able to lose their 4th straight KC. Just getting to the KC quarterfinals should be this teams goal. They lost just about everyone. Will the remaining players pick up those losses? No. Above average goalie will keep it close, but the writing is on the wall for these Friars-Good night.
8. Notre Dame: They also lost some mainstays and decent talent to graduation. There rough style of play is suited for the grind that is the CCHL. I like their speed, but will they have enough on the blueline to make up for a weaker squad than last years? Discipline will rule at the Ballard Ice Center, this team could move to 6th with a little luck.
9. Brother Rice: Simply put, I don't have them finishing last. Another once proud program has really, really struggled as of late. Here is hoping they can turn things around and gain some credibility. Beating any of the above 8 teams would solidify a solid season. Baby steps.
10. St. Ignatious: On the brightside, your seniors are more likely to get into schools with great hockey traditions like Harvard, Yale, and BC. On the darker side, you won't be making those teams if you played at Iggy. Brains and brawn never really mix and this group is no exception. They have some skilled players and always play a clean game, but this league is not for the Poindexters, more for the Blutowski's of the world.
Wishing all a great CCHL season! Let the games begin!

Hold on there Anonymous. Viator is a very good team. They are not benders. All Viators top players were there. There was no flow to this game, just whistle after whistle. They just got beat by a better team. Viator has some skilled players but Ritas offense is deep. Both teams play again next week. We'll see how it goes.

hell of a game ^^^^^^
one of the best you'll see end to end action. Viator came back from 2-0 and 3-2. Rita ended up scoring on an empty net. Great game.

Rita's top 3 (#10, #9, #20) dominated while Provi's "supposedly" top 2 (#24, #26) were non-existent. They looked like they were scared out of their mind. Provi's best players were the 3 freshman.
Provi still looks like they are a year or two away. Rita didn't have much after their top 3 but these 3 are awfully good.

Rita dominated in offensive zone but Marist could've won. Had 2 clear cut breakaways stopped by Napleton and had a lot of high quality chances. Napleton was the difference

You are kidding right? Marist almost beat you? And how many games have they won? It sounds like your goalie is trying to pump himself up. The score was 4-0 but oh my it was such a nail biter.
