In Metro North, top three teams are GBN, GBS and Loyola. They have taken turns beating each other, but they are above all the other Metro North teams. In Metro west, the top two tems are York and Hinsdale Central. In Metro Cetra/Northwest it is only Barrington.

Blue beats most Varsity teams. They would anniliate the JV teams that are mentioned here. Most of the players on the other teams would leave the ice crying after one period if they had to play NTB.

the rest of Illinois High School Hockey can thank New Trier for playing White at Varsity. They do have the option of making White a JV team, and they would kill everyone.

Blue at JV? That would be against the high school rules. With three teams you have to go 2 varsity and one JV. But with 4 teams, you have the option of going 2 varsity and 2 JV. So for all you New Trier haters...at least understand they play up not down.

Who else can say that? That's what I thought.

Playing White at JV would actually hurt the Program as a whole. What benefit is there to win year after year at JV. They are doing fine with out playing white at JV. Didnt they win State last year at the JV level. The unfair advantage New Trier has is the 2 campus system. Its actually smart to do. The other advantage New Trier has is they draw almost 100% of the players that go to school there. That is what happens when you have a successful program. New Trier has done a great job of putting together a solid program year after year. The one thing I do nt agree with is Bob Melton is the program. He is not. With the talent that New Trier gets year in and year out there is more then a dozen coaches that have done more with Less talent. we will see one day.

What about the two campus system is unfair? The Northfield Campus is only freshman and then the Winnetka campus is sophomores thru seniors. If there was not a freshman only campus then all the kids would just go to school at Winnetka. Having two campuses does not give New Trier Hockey any disadvantage whatsoever.

Name me the 12 coaches that have done more with less? BM has 7 State Titles and 1 National Cahmpionship in 13 years. So in 8 years out of 13 he has ended his season with a win. Are you kidding me? He will go down as the greatest HS coach ever. Book it!

New Trier

No score for this post
January 11 2011, 12:29 PM

What gives New Trier a huge asdvantage is not two capus is the number of students taht attend, 4000 plus or mainus Compare that to GBN, GBS, or for that matter other schools of that size. These schools have 2300 students. That is the advantage. Combine GBN & GBS you would have 4 teams and do as well as NT

"Anyone could win there"
"Green is the weakest in years"
The jealousy on this forum to a program who promotes and builds High School hockey is amazing. I applaud their entire program. They give 80 HS players a competitive place to play. And for the BM haters out there. If you don't like him because your bender didn't make Green fine... I get it, but please don't try and downplay the mans accomplishments, you just look foolish.

I am not knocking New Trier at all. I think their program is great. What I am saying is with the talent that the program gets, there is a dozen coaches that can do just as good as what BM has done. Its the program, not the coach that gets it done at NT. Bm one day will be gone and NT will still be winning State titles at multiple levels.

To poster above... I disagree. Do you have any idea how many State Titles NT Green won before BM? I bet you don't. The answer would be two. 15 years of Green hockey before BM and only 2 State Titles. I think he has a little to do with the recent success don't you?

The argument goes on and on every year about Melton. The State Champs started coming in 98 and then an incredible group of players cames through NT the next 7-8 years. These teams played the Detroit Catholics, Culver A and Shattucks of the world and beat them (tied Shsttuck) but the talent was pretty good where most good coaches could have won with these kids.

Except that North has won the meaningful games between the two this year. Stevie tournamnet championship and Metro Playdowns (where South had to win to make sure they got in and still lost). There are three teams in MN that can win Metro and / or State - GBN, GBS and Loyola - and they all beat each other on different nights. Can't really say who is better but we'll find out soon because more meaningful games are about to be played.

Having seen GBN AND GBS I think GBS has a few more skilled players but GBN has a better team. They are good at protecting their goal but lack the big time scorers. Between GBN, GBS, Loyola, Barrington and York any of them could win state

Winner will come from GBN, GBS and Loyola. GBN has most complete team, but there offense is a lttle weak after top couple of players. Loyola has the best Goalie and defense but is really challenged to score. GBS has best offense but lacks defensive depth. These teams took turns beating up on each other this year but all were close games. GBN has played GBS 6 times with GBN winning 3 (including one 2OT game in Stevenson Tourney championship, GBS winning 2 and one tie. GBN and Loyola have played 4 times with each winning 2. GBS and Loyola have played 4 times with each winning 2. GBS and Loyola play tomorrow night in the HIT championship and possibly play on Wednesday in the Scholastic cup semi-finals.

Loyola's goalie is injured, so they're playing with the goalie from the maroon team. I dont know how they're doing with him. But before the injury, their goalie was the only thing keeping them in games. They have zero offense and a mediocre defense.

GBN is nothing without their star junior forward, 55.

GBS is a solid team, but cannot come back from behind.

It all comes down to who wants it the most and who comes to play.
