New My Hockey rankings

My Hockey Rankings:

1. New Trier Green
2. Loyola Gold
3. Waubonsie Valley
4. Rockford
5. St. Rita
6. Glenbrook North
7. Stevenson
8. Fenwick
9. Providence Catholic
10. St. Viator

Could someone explain why Waubonsie is ranked below NT after beating them twice in the last week. I think the following rankings would make more sense:

1.Waubonsie Valley
2.New Trier Green
3.Loyola Gold
4.Rockford
5.Glenbrook North
6.Highland Park
7.Providence
8.Stevenson
9.St.Rita

Then the system is flawed. NTG does not deserve to be ranked over a team that beats them twice in one week. End of Line.

If you claim WV has a weak schedule and that the teams they beat are not highly ranked, and that they beat NT, then NT must be weak! Move them down a notch.

This years Green team, with 6 new D and goalies is obviously not the powerhouse of past teams. Nonetheless the garbage teams that are in the Thanksgiving tourny shouldn't offer much of a challenge to Green. WV seems like the only team that can match up with them and they're not in this tourny.

I must say that the HP/GBN game was a solid one. GBN comes back from 3-1 to lead 4-3...HUGE heart. HP comes back from 4-3 to tie it up in the 3rd 4-4...HUGE heart. I applaud both teams.

Yes, HP has had a weaker schedule in some regards. But they did beat Stevenson, St. Viator, GBS...pretty respectable especially in Metro North. HP will play in the Thanksgiving tourney hosted by Stevenson, which is why they could not even participate in other thanksgiving tourneys... HP will play Rockford in that tourney. Let's see how this match up goes.

HP may be ranked too high, maybe not. Regardless, let us remember what they were the past few years and how far theyve come...The season's about halfway over. Metro North is tight. Every team in IL is developing. This is an exciting season; let's just see hockey and not hate on each other and our "algorithms" or "rankings." I think we all know hockey's more about passion than numbers...

Sure NT is a combined team. Not from a HS standpoint but from a feeder standpoint. They only lose a handful of kids to AAA every year so just about every kid going through Wilmette and Winnetka plays at NT. How many other schools have two feeder systems directed into one HS team?

There's a good reason Green loses only a handful of games every year. Unless one of the Catholic league schools load up in a particular year Green's season is full of a bunch of practice games and tourny finals.

Green should look to make their schedule more demanding than what it is. I see where they went to St. Louis last weekend and beat Chaminade and Desmet by a combined score of 22-6. The game against Vianny was not even posted so I'm guessing that was a 10-0 game. There is a great weekend for you. 10 hours of driving and playing three teams that probably couldn't beat NTW. Now that's good planning for you. I bet the parents were happy watching that garbage.

Your sentiment thst NT should try to play a tougher schedule is absolutely right. However, you might not be as informed about NTG as you think. NT does try to play a tough schedule, and most of their schedule is tough. Unfortunately the trip to st louis was a cakewalk, but they played teams that are traditionally good teams; desmet and chaminade. NTG can't help it if these teams are weak this year.

NT is not combined and they arent the only school to have more than one feeder program. Hard to argue tha NT wouldnt be better if they could recruit like the catholic school teams.

You are right that NTG operates under favorable conditions, but there are other schools with similar conditons that dont do wha NT does. Instead of complaining about it, we should celebrate NTG as being a bright light in a illinois high school landscape that is really bleak. We should try to emulate them.

emulate NTG

No score for this post
November 24 2011, 11:24 PM

The only way to emulate NTG is to get the enrollment to their level. That is one of the main advantages they have. GBN combine with GBS, than they will emulate NTG. That would make it an even playing field as the enrollment would be closer and would have two feeder programs. But then again at that point they would dominate.

If you want to emulate a HS hockey program emulate Edina HS's in Minnesota.
