This was a very exciting game. HP got into penalty trouble early on...Rockford capitalizes on 5-3 and 5-4 PP to make it 2-0.

HP comes back though to make it 2-1 before the end of the first. Pretty even game. Both goalies played very solid. Rockford then makes it 3-1 on another PP...they took advantage on the PP.

HP scores again to make it 3-2 in the third. HP generally controlled play in the third, but Rockford did get its chances too. Rockford ices HP off with a FILTHY D-zone face-off. Rockford puts 4 players on the ice, puck drops, 5th player comes off of bench, "Fly" play for the breakaway goal.

Overall, I would say the game was pretty even. If HP hadn't gotten those two early penalties, they might have even come away with a tie or victory. Both teams had glorious chances. I applaud both teams...looks like HP is for real.

From behind and was assessed a match penalty. The GBN player was laughing as he skated off the the ice and in to the
locker room. This kid will have the next 30 days to sit home and think about how funny his actions were.

November 27 2011, 5:30 PM

that hit should definetly not be a match penalty...it was loud which gave it all the attention, and it was just like every other hit on a winger on a break out, kids head was down and five feet from the boards...isn't every kid taught that staying 3-5 feet away from boards is most dangerous place on the ice? and for the parents they were obnoxious, calling gbn parents assholes equals no class. you know the risk you take by having your kid playing hockey, so if your kid gets injured on a clean hit, be more concerned about his well being then tearing apart other teams parents.

on a side note, great ship game. GBN had 2 breakaways early and just couldnt finish, that might have been what put rockford away early. very very very evenly matched game, rockford kind of had the edge in the 3rd.

November 27 2011, 6:41 PM

mrs gbn parent did you not hear your players laughing and being disrespectful while provi player laid motionless on the ice? Did you not hear the gbn parent yell WATCH YOUR WALLET as there was a scrum in front of the net ? How about YOU couldnt afford this ear ring? Not sure what those comments have to do with hockey but maybe it cause they are lacking in some other department . As far as the hit goes,I it was not a forward it was a dman going to pick up a loose puck gbn player engaged with player 3 to 5 feet off boards and ran him into the boards head and shoulder first.I understand hockey is a physical sport but like you mentioned there is a thing called class. when up 5 to 1 in a game with less than 2 minutes in a game you would not run a kid with the intent to run him through the glass . OBVIOUSLY THE REF SAW IT AS A INTENT TO INJURE. but as always the political northside machine is in full swing as parents and coaches were talking to refs and getting ready to make their call to the ahai board .

Running him through the glass? as u said the d man picked up a loose puck and was hit. it from a parallel hit into the boards. i hear nothing that is illegal there. 6 1 or not, its a hit with 2 mins left in game or in the first period. if the kid did not lay on the ice, he would not have a match penalty. The hit may of been a hard hit but becuz a dman has his head down picking up a puck is not al illegal play.

"was there" apparently wasnt "all there".... the hit in question was not from behind...but it was a tough hit....it was a boarding call and 5 minutes and a game or two out would have been fine...problem is the kid doesnt even know its a bad hit.......most of the kids just decide if they are hitting from behind or not and he didnt think he did...think ovechkin on campbell, except the players here were skating more parallel than that hit..a 30 day suspension tells you as much about who officiated the game as the hit.....at least one outside person wanted to know how an official can instantly assess a 30 day suspension on somebody......good question.... hopefully the providence kid will be ok and ahai will consider the accounts of some less emotional witnesses...though i dont blame the providence parents for being upset...

hd3 - I was just relaying the facts. The kid was assessed a match penalty for intent to injure. Wether it was or wasn't, he will have to explain himself to the AHAI committee. OK maybe the kid wasn't laughing but he sure did have a big smile on his face. Again, just relaying the facts.

Does anyone know if the kid is okay? GBN player who is said hitter was very flustered to know today at the ship. I know this kid personally and he didnt even know the hit was bad until he turned around and saw the kid on the ground tried to turn and around and see if he was okay and that got booted. and no excuses are here, horribly officated game, completly out of hand, cheap shots on both sides. ends in terrible accident, but its hockey. things happen

not jsut one parent but at least 4 or 5 were yelling at this kid when he was seeing if the kid was getting up, i would say that is an act of remorse. What is a 17 year old kid suppose to do against emotionally distraught parents? nothing. hitting is apart of the game. and big hits are to. the hit was hard yes, but even a provi parent said it wasnt match penalty worth. Parents put there kid on the ice every day with those chances.

A match penalty is imposed for deliberately injuring another player, attempting to injure another player, head-butting opponents, or a goaltender going to the penalty box.
In which of the 4 categories above does this shoulder to shoulder hit apply. Yes it was a hard hit but not dirty or intent to injure. This ref lost control way before that play. Numerous H.S. coaches around that saw the play. Kid walked out of lockeroom and was verbally assaulted by a number of parents. In no way did he think it was funny he had a nervous look on his face. I hope the child is allright. A match penalty.............a joke!

the hit was anything but clean, head down, back facing him 5ft from the boards. are you serious that the kid wasnt laughing? he was skating to the providence bench laughing and then said learn to take a hit, after being moved off the ice he was laughing and smiling the entire time. all of the gbn kids were talking smack the entire game, even when they were winning by 4. the gtbn player #14 decided it would be a good idea to tell the parents of the injured providence player that he should learn to take a hit.If that doesnt show that they have no class im not sure what does, the GBN club is not being invited back to Stevenson next year.

GBN has NOT been told they are not invited back to the Stevenson Thanksgiving Tournament. GBN is a great hockey program and having them in any tournament only makes the competition in the tournament better. The incident the other night was unfortunate, but as a representative of Stevenson High School I just wanted to clear up this GBN rumor. I was not at the game the other night to see the hit and injury. I do know that the Stevenson tournament invites are typically put together so they give the teams from the year before priority over any new teams.

Not play in State? That's four months away. He got a Match. that's up to 30 days until the next hearing. Assuming the next hearing is mid December then he will have sat about 10 games which will be a more than appropriate suspension for the hit. He is not going to miss State or any playoff game.

you have to compete in at least 75% of the games to compete in state. and he will have it. GBN is going to be hurt in tese next few weeks, #14 leads that second line and is a big part of that team. Best of luck to him and his team

I saw the hit and I do not play for either team. Boarding and a game. It was a huge hit and the player should be held accountable. To give this a match was the wrong call. In all my years watching and playing youth hockey I have seen 2 maybe 3 match penalties called. There was no intent to injure and I would hope that when reviewed the authorities make the right decision.

He was suspeneded util the first of the year. Of what ive heard It was called a hit from behind. Idk if the time served from the meeting which was this week was the amount he deserved, i saw the hit. it was loud and late in the game and it the kid did have his head down. The kid will have learned his lesson

youre kidding me right? were you there? no i dont think you were, and if you were youre the stupidest person ive ever met. they were up by five and the kid charged at the kid and hit him from behind.you can say all this bs that he was too far from the boards or that he hit his shoulder.. no. it was a complete, dirty, hit from behind. AND the kid was classy enough to be laughing and smiling when he was leaving the ice. you say he came out of the lockerroom too see if he cared, if he really cared he would have been right there after the hit standing next to the kid not laughing. bullshit

this last anonymous post is clearly associated with providence because they were pretty much the only ones in the rink that day to come away with this emotionally overwrought version of what happened. as someone who has seen their kid laying on the ice unconcious, the victim of a side hit that spun him head first into the boards, much the same as this hit, i can identify with the raw emotions of the moment. but at this point lets just come away with lessons learned. hockey in 2011-2012 does not want devastating hits, clean or not, and no need for them in a 5-1 game. ahai will never overturn or commute a 30 day suspension in a case like this because it makes the sport look barbaric and they will always cover their butts. finally, name calling and righteous indignation 3 weeks later make you sound psycho

It was a vicious hit yes, that is why it was called a match, it was not in the back. he was facing up ice! how could it be in the back? Problly a 190 pound kid getting blasted by what im gunna is a 150 pounder? #14 is probably the best player on that team. Kid is always coming out guns blazing ready to play and if they werent up 5 to 1 i dont know if match would of been called. and the kid didnt even know he was down until provi kids started yelling at the kid! Cant see if he was okay if you are being kicked off.
