Metro North should kick a couple lower teams out (evanston, warren, marron, white) and add Gold/Green/Rita. That would b a real powerhouse. Metro North has been the backbone of highschool hockey and is teh best league. |

Rita would never join because they're southside, but NTG and LAG maybe would if the lower teams left. LAG should also rejoin the Catholic League as it has taken its place again as the best league. |

Titan Observer (no login) 151.147.253.142 | Re: ViatorNo score for this post | May 4 2012, 12:03 PM |
GBS's time is not over. They will be young and probably not as strong next year, but they will bounce back. They have a good feeder program and will restock. Next year's team will be challenged in the new league. If Metro North remained, they still would be within the top 5 in such league. In the new league, however, they are likely to be in the bottom half next year. |

GBS's time as a true threat to win the HS Red Division State Championship has passed. Actually, the door closed on that plan in March of 2008 when they lost to GBN in the State Semi-Finals. The influence of Jerry K. was over, and Philbin has been challenged to put a State Championship caliber team together.
.....and that is the truth...

Hate to be captain obvious.
But if St. Rita decided to leave the Catholic League, their goal every year would change.
Boise State is still not trying to win the WAC every year. They have changed their goal to win the Big East.
Their goal should be to win division "X". Division "X" should be the division that helps the hockey program best going forward. That for the board to decide.

This league is good for the 9 teams but not for the rest of Illinois high school hockey. Those lefotver Central and North teams will lose players to club teams now because their schedule is so unattractive.
The 9 will grow stronger, the rest will grow weaker over time. |

Viator and GBS will lose every game in this league.
Viator will have no goaltending and will not be able to compete without one in this league. They will have a lot of scoring back but that won't make up for their major lose in the net.
GBS will have no scoring without Philbin and Savino and only have one good defenseman back. |

Viator has a lot of kids who play for club teams that go to their school. They could be making the switchover real soon which will add to their unbelievable offense that they could assemble.Granted, goal-tending is a weakness, and probably the one position you don't want to be weak at, but they will be fine and potentially a top 5 team this yr. |

Some programs such as GBS will be up and down from year to year. It is better to have GBS in the league. If a program has won the State Championship in the last 10 years, than they should not be left out.
Keep in mind that the league should be looking long term (3-7) years. Not whether a program lost a goalie or a forward. Teams will develop players. Crazy how every year there're 40 All State players. |

The league will exist. It is not called the Super 9 league. Last I heard it was Great Lakes Hockey League, but they are thinking about different names.
It will consist of
NTG
Loyola Gold
GBN
GBS
St. Viator
Stevenson
Barrington
Rockford
Prairie Ridge.
Playoffs for this league will be similar to the Catholic League. 8-9 will have a playoff at the end of the year for the last spot. Then it will be 3 games series of 1 vs. 8 or 9, 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6, 4 vs. 5. The teams will schedule their own ice slots for games. The league will be a part of Metro, but the teams will not compete for the Scholastic Cup. JV will be doing this also.

The rest of Metro is kind of ugly now, isn't it? A steady diet of Latin, Niles, Evanston, Deerfield, Libertyville, etc. Ugly. |

you're digging dude. St. Viator lost its top player to play AAA in Michigan this season, and had another top player leave last minute to focus on another sport. I think their all-state goalie graduated after last season.
Their top player skipped AA CSDHL to go to AAA, meaning he was more than qualified to play AA but instead chose High School last season. Why? becasue theres not a lot of difference in talent between HS and AA
The Leafs are in the top 2-3 teams in your league. SV admittedly will be in the bottom half of this "super" league this season. But the SV coach is excellent and will have them play hard and compete, and then he will reload next season.
NTG, GBN and LG are ALL on par with any of the Midget AA teams locally. The biggest difference is there is more parity at AA then at HS. There a some dud HS games on the schedule, depending on your school and league. And with MM AA you have to travel out of state every few weeks which is the best part for a lot of the parents (drinking, messing around). These HS kids play at home on the weekend, then go out with their friends. Not jump intot car for another 6 hour drive home
AAA or Prep is the next step beyond HS, certainly not AA |

AA teams 3rd and 4th line players would be top players on any of these high school teams. They choose AA because they get to practice regularily with high caliber players and coaches concerned about development.
Its more evident at JV level where the AA midget minor teams dominate High school. |

This is such a stupid argument.
AA Teams are in fact HS All-star teams. They are made up of players from various High Schools. Other than the combined HS Teams, HS Hockey Teams are made up of kids who all attend the same HS.
AA teams should dominate HS Teams but they dont.
IF you had a season series best of 7 this year between NTG, LAG and GBN vs Huskies MM, Leafs and Falcons the series would be very very close. Remember NTG is the strongest team this year and they have yet to play Huskies or Leafs. GBN and LAG lost but games were extremely close. |

Illinois hockey is so frickin disjointed and fragmented that of course people argue which level is better. I think that the people that promote AA are the club board members, and the coaches, who make money on the kids who play. If the focus was on high school, where yes there are boards and politics and paid coaches too, but the primary enthusiasm is hockey for you and your firneds.
But, no, AHAI contines to allow excessive fragmentation, just like their focus on CSDHL versus NIHL.
Get your kids playuing high school. Every team that I know of is on the ice four to five times per week, play 40-50 games, and the kids play in front of parents AND school mates.'
Get with it AHAI. |

So we have HS CSDHL and NIHL, without doing a in depth numbers crunch. If you were to move all the kids from CS and HIHL to HS, where would they all play? Are there enough combined teams to accomodate, 360 players? Are they in the right Geographic area? I really does not matter what better, worse or different. The bottom line is you need the options to have enough spaces for all the kids to play that want to. |

Okay all you northshore people need to hop off your pedestals... To say that you are the backbone of HS hockey is just wrong. Teams like Providence and Sandburg and a good amount of catholic teams can easily compete with you guys. The southern suburb teams just don't want to drive all the way up there for Tuesday or Thursday night games and get shafted by northside refs like in previous years. This is the reason Metro disbanded, because the stuck up north spiders didn't ever want to compromise. On a different note, this league you all are talking about is NOT by any means a "Super League." If you want to know what a super league looks like, look no further than HIT League. Hands down consistently the best teams in HS. Granted, this year LAG, Rita, GBN, and GBS left the league for some reason... But it was/is the best group of teams in HS |

Great team? the 10-11 was much deeper and more skilled but did not have the coaching to get to the finals. With the talent viator had the three previous seasons they should have easily gotten one ring and last years team was easily the least talented out of the three, but they had the best attitude, work ethic, and coaching the previous two teams did not. Lappin came in and completely changed the culture and did not give a damn about what parents or anybody else thought and thats why they got to the UC. |

I think GBN will wear NTG down, NTG has one line that Fenwick could match with their First Line, GBN on the other hand got all over Fenwick. Dana was not in net though so you need to remember that. GBN has 2 Lines that would be Starters at any school! |

LAG is a very good HS Team with Absolutely zero offense. Whether they play GBN, green or GBS the scores will be close.
Their strength is all the returning defensemen and strong goaltending. If they get behind in a game there is no chance for a comeback. |
|

Agreed. LA has a good team and its strengh is with the defense. When they match against a good goaltender which GBS has, the game can be close. LA will dominate games but could lose some of these games. |

Keep in Mind they are playing without one of their top goal scorers who is still playing football. Also DJ is still running out all his players trying to see who will and can step up to replace all the skill players who left early this year(two forwards and a defensemen plus those players that graduated).. |
|

Yes.....But.... NTG 8 GBS 1 and Loyola scores only 2 goals on GBS? Also, most teams roll their lines for the most part. |
|
Anonymous (no login) 24.13.38.137 | Re: LAGNo score for this post | October 28 2012, 7:41 AM |
NT clearly has the edge in scoring ability to LA. Is that really any different than any year? DJ rolling lines has nothing to do with anything. NT offensive skill is flat out superior. However this comparison of two games isn't a good one. NT had 6 or 7 power plays including two 5 on 3 against GBS. Anybody knowing NT over the years knows they have they best power play anywhere and this year could be as good as its been in several years. BTW, NT does not roll the lines for power plays. Same players every time who make teams pay for being in the box.
I have the over/under for percentatge of goals being on power play this year for NT at 60%. |

Also, people always complain about Green getting power plays. Look at why they get power plays. They usually have a number of kids that can really play and the only way the other team can slow them down is by committing an infraction. |

There are plenty of HS playing and a bunch of combined teams around if your HS doesn't have a team. |

1) AAA MM and mm hockey are king, but it really has little impact on HS or AA. There are only 4 teams with 80 players. Some of these players come from out of state.
2) NTG, because they have won over 95% of their games with AA and HS teams for over a decade.
3) Yap all you want, but CSDHL/ AA Midgets and the top 25 High Schools are now even. Top HS 25 have caught them.
4) Midget MM- A and HS ranked #26 and lower are equal.
5) The wannabee rink rats and parents that do most of the boasting on Complete Hockey Threads.
Love the game and just play it. Neither justify the level you play, nor knock the others. |

Read your thread about HS>AA Hockey. Wasn't sure if you were an uninformed blowhard (which you are)or if you had actual facts (which you don't). Quick glance at Myhockey. HS teams that are considered usually strong or had good records this year were 5-11-1 against AA teams. That includes NTG 2-0. Talking GBS, Fenwick, Deerfield, Stevenson and Benet. Oh and all the HS teams with real good records like Hersey/BG, HP and Sandburg what do they have in commom....no AA teams played. Coincidence? Think not. Wait for your response. |

My son moved from playing AA and AAA to HS. While there are several HS players who have AA ability, my observation of HS hockey is that the top CSDHL M MINOR teams would beat most HS varsity teams handily. The top HS teams each have several players with AAA or CSDHL experience and top level coaching. Those teams can compete with top level AA teams. However, some HS teams have difficulty just getting into their power plays; that breakdown happens only occasionally for top AA teams. High school teams that are populated largely by NIHL or house league level players are far behind the top AA teams. |

As soon as you use MyHockey to support your stance you lose credibility. At this time they have incomplete schedule results( games played ,but not yet recorded) As of today they didn't even have games listed for some HS teams. Over the years at the NCAA and Midget AAA levels there have always been complaints of an Eastern bias in their rankings. That bias and score reporting deficiency makes the rankings highly suspect. Specifically, when their methodology puts such a heavy emphasis on a team's SOS.
You should suspect poll disagreements regarding youth hockey, when people question the NCAA Football rankings from the BCS, AP, Coaches, Harris, and 6 other polls that can't even rank the top teams in the same order with all the data fed into the computers.
Did you even look at how many different levels ( youth USA and Canada, HS 50 states, juniors US and Canada, and College DI and DIII,etc..) polls they attempt to rank...., and your trying to compare their Illinois' AA and HS polls. That is completely ludicrous to believe that is spot on. You're a politicians dream.
Bottomline is whether the Illinois CSDHL/AA teams are better than the top 15, 20, or 25 is really not an issue to get down to the finite. The fact is they are are close, on par with , or comparable. Live with it.

^ I agree with this post. MyHockeyRankings is not a reliable source. And to say that teams like Sandburg havnt played AA teams yet is a stupid argument. It hasn't been in their schedule yet? Nothing more to it. AA is the awkward and unwanted uncle between HS and AAA. Why stick with travel hockey of there is a 0% chance of anything coming from it unlike AAA? Why go for another meaningless NIHL championship that u probably already have like 3 of from the previous 8 years of travel when you could be representing your HS and fighting for a state championship at the UC? The only logical reason a high schooler would choose to play AA is if they don't have enough faith in their HS team if their school sucks. |
|
Anonymous (no login) 24.13.237.210 | Re: responseNo score for this post | October 29 2012, 4:05 PM |
I completely agree. Any HS player/parent with a brain knows that AAA is better than HS. There is no debating that. They are the top 80 (or 160) players in Illinois, MANY from out of state. AA hockey in Illinois is absolutely pointless. There is no chance of continuing your future in hockey (Juniors, NCAA college) by playing AA hockey, and there really isn't any shot of it in HS hockey. So why do these kids play AA? I am a player, and I played CSDHL at my club team until I was a freshman. HS is much, much more fun, BUT that does not mean it is not competitive or serious. Your HS's fans come and watch you play, articles in the newspaper, stats online, all-state and all star games, local games etc. all make HS hockey so much more fun. As for all the stupid-ass AA kids who come on this thread to talk shit about HS hockey, EVERY SINGLE TOP 15 HS TEAM IS COMPARABLE TO ANY ILLINOIS CSDHL TEAM. get over it. the rest of the teams are comparable to CSDHL or maybe NIHL Midget. Whoever brought MYHOCKEY into this mix is an idiot; the system is not very accurate and the site has missing scores etc. But I will play your game. Rockford, who is usually a top CSDHL team, is ranked on MYHOCKEY, 13th in Illinois HS. I think you can piece together the rest. |

This is wrong. Take the top 10 teams in the state for highschool and 90% of each team played top level at AA. There is certainly a huge gap between good HS teams and bad HS teams, but that's because there are so many damn teams compared to the same 10 teams you play all season at AA. Most of us highschoolers go into freshman year coming from either Gold or CS AA.... We have just made the decision that 8 or 9 years of travel hockey was enough and HS is more fun. Why can't you AA people understand and respect that? I just don't understand why you think AA is better....... Ive played with both. |

Let's look at the Illinois Midget CSDHL/AA/Elite A&B trend over the past 10 years:
GROUP A-
Current CSDHL teams Bruins*, Chargers*, Falcons, Sabres, Hawks*, Huskies*, Leafs*, and Rockford
* denotes that Organization had to move to new rink and/or had to reconfigure under new name to survive lower membership numbers. None of these teams has been CSDHL over the entire 8 year span due to above listed circumstances or for lack of talent to qualify as a CSDHL team. Some of these teams didn't even have a Midget team during this 10yr. span due to lack of player numbers.
Group B-
Programs with MM NIHL Elite Levels A and B- Cyclones#, Joliet, Komets, Peoria#, Skokie#, and Wolfpack
# denotes organizations that had successful CSDHL MM teams during the past 10yr. period, but have not recently qualified a team for sometime.
GROUP C-
These programs are having difficulty maintaining their player numbers at the MM level and at this have no MM teams at any level and some have no plans to initiate one- Blues, Express, Glenview, and Vikings.
Group D-
Programs that at one time had highly successful MM teams but no longer exist- Atoms and Flames.
Prognosis for Illinois Midget Major AA Level Hockey- on life support, slow death, gone in 5 years.

Yes it is debatable but it is an old and pointless debate that serves no real purpose since neither is going to take you any farther in hockey than the other. There are good HS teams and bad, just as there good AA clubs and bad. Time to just let it go, if your ego will allow it, and enjoy what you have. You're wrong kid. Go back to AA and play for a meaningless NIHL league. And yes my whole team is either from AA CS or AAA you dumb pussy |

AA is dying. The post above it 100% correct. I used to play AA for 8 years so I'm not bashing it... But it is a new era for hockey at our age level. The AA team I used to play for has not been able to roster a team at the MM level for the last 3 years. It is dying |

In the league teams signed four year contracts but can be voted out based on performance. There is an emergency out. Will they kick viator out of the league? |

I doubt that either GBS or SV will get booted out. This new league started on the basis of a need for good competition not for TV revenue sharing like NCAA sports.
Please realize that most schools' talent pools are cyclical, not steady streams of talent laden players.(note that the word talent is a relative term). Only NTG, LAG, GBN, & Rockford are consistent top winners in the HS level. HS leagues thrive on consistency and proximate school rivalries. GBS and SV fit the geographical and competitive nature of this league. Rockford is the exception to the rule and is familiar with the role of a nomadic trollup from their CSDHL experiences.
There are schools that fit into the same frame as GBS or SV (Fenwick,St.Rita,NC,Provi, and others) as up and down talent pools that are more frequently good than meh, but they are also schools that are part of conferences that they don't wish to sever ties with. |

Yea, if they kick out those 2 teams, who are they going to try and get to replace them? Doubtful that any CCHL team is going to leave their league and the same goes for most of the teams in the West league. |

Does Viator really want to be killed in 24 games a year. Also, GBS will be in the league as long as GBN is because they are rivals. Would Sandbrug really think their league is better than the Scholastic league? The Scholastic league gets 40 fames streamed. They have had 21 teams in the last 15 state championship game they also have 10 of the last 15 champions. Who wouldn't want that competition? They should be able to get a team better than Viator. |

You forget what Viator was last year. Thats why they are in it, one down year is nothing |

Well their coach who developed all the kids left for GBN if that says anything. Also, their jv is also horrible without many kids. Their next couple of years look really bad. |

Interesting thing for Viator would be to replace the current coach with former GBN Coach Brunner. He works for the Wolf Pack and is at West Meadows most days. Lappin is totally out of control and kids will not go to Viator to play for him. They would if they hired MB who my have learned over the past couple I years how to be manage people a little better. |

Catholic league teams have been running everything the past couple years. maybe its time to relize that the teams that were usually top teams might be replaced |

Define "running everything". I'm not sure you can make a generalization like that after one year of a Catholic league state final. |

Youre right...CCHL teams have been running things for two years. Oh, ecxept for when GBN and NTG played at the UC. In 2011. Seems they beat Fenwick and LAG to get there. | |
