Sioux City defenseman Jordan Schmaltz scored the deciding shootout goal and Dubuque forward John Gaudreau recorded a hat trick to lead their teams to victory.
USHL Saturday RecapTeam USA 3 @ Youngstown Phantoms 4
Quinn Smith netted two goals to lead the Phantoms to their fourth straight win. Ty Loney scored his third goal over his last four games and goaltender Matthew O'Connor earned his fourth straight victory after making 29 saves. Rocco Grimaldi scored his fourth goal over his last three USHL games for Team USA's Under-18 squad.
Green Bay Gamblers 4 @ Dubuque Fighting Saints 5
John Gaudreau tallied his second hat trick of the season as the Saints halted Green Bay's winning streak at eight games. Gaudreau extended his goal-scoring streak to four games. The line of Gaudreau (3g, 1a), Vinny Saponari (1g, 3a), and Shane Sooth (4a) combined for 12 points. Jean-Paul LaFontaine netted two goals for the Gamblers.
Sioux City Musketeers 3 @ Fargo Force 2 (SO)
Defenseman Jordan Schmaltz scored in regulation and had the deciding shootout goal to help the Musketeers snap a six-game winless skid (0-5-1). Matt Skoff earned the victory making 27 saves and turning away 4-of-5 in the shootout. Tyler Maugeri had his second goal in as many nights for the Force.
Muskegon Lumberjacks 2 @ Cedar Rapids RoughRiders 1 (SO)
A highlight reel shootout goal by defenseman Travis Walsh gave the Lumberjacks the victory. Goaltender Joel Vienneau made 37 saves and stopped all five attempts in the shootout to earn the win for Muskegon. Charlie Taft scored in regulation for the Lumberjacks and Ryan McGrath scored the lone goal for Cedar Rapids.
Team USA 2 @ Waterloo Black Hawks 4
The Black Hawks overcame a 2-0 deficit to earn the win over Team USA's Under-17 squad. Gunnar Hughes netted two goals and Tyler Zepeda also tallied for Waterloo. Defenseman Blake Thompson scored his third goal of the season. He had three total goals in 112 USHL games prior to this season. Kyle Osterberg scored his first career USHL goal for Team USA.
Lincoln Stars 3 @ Des Moines Buccaneers 2
The Stars scored three goals in the third period to earn the victory. Garrett Peterson tallied the game-winner. He has six goals over seven games played this season, three of which have been game-winners. Sam Alfieri and Brent Tate scored power play goals 26 seconds apart for Lincoln. Goaltender Kevin Murdock made 32 saves to earn the win for the Stars. Mitch Cain scored his second goal in as many nights for the Buccaneers.
