Did that really just happen?
The North American Hockey League turned in a night to remember last night as a #4 seed (Bismarck), #3 seed (Michigan), and # 2 seed (Amarillo) all knocked out higher seeded teams, on the road, to advance in Robertson Cup play.
For the Bismarck Bobcats and Michigan Warriors it now means a three game play-in series to fill the fourth slot in the finals. That series will take place this week.
Over in the United States Hockey League, the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders ended the Muskegon Lumberjacks season with a decisive 7-3 win.
So lets take a look at where our picks leaves us after Monday's meltdown.
Coulee Region Chill (2) vs Bismarck Bobcats (4)
Not too many people gave the Bobcats much hope of reaching the Robertson Cup finals this year. Well, except the good folks in Bismarck and us. Bobcats. 8-2
St Louis Bandits (1) vs Michigan Warriors (3)
This series surprised us. The Bandits really disappointed many this year. The Flint folks that still hold out hope for the Generals are missing a really good hockey team. Bandits. 8-3
Topeka RoadRunners (1) vs Amarillo Bulls (2)
Everybody thought I was crazy for sticking with the Bulls. 9-3
Fairbanks Ice Dogs (1) vs Wenatchee Wild (2)
Fairbanks took care of business in Wenatchee and punched their ticket to Topeka. Ice Dogs.
Our NAHL record now sits at a respectable 9-3. Not bad, not bad at all.
Now lets talk about this play-in series between Michigan and Bismarck. I am sticking with the Bobcats.
USHL 2nd Round
Muskegon Lumberjacks (5) at Cedar Rapids Roughriders (1)
The RoughRiders proved the reason they got the #1 seed. Riders
USHL Play-Off Record 6-2
