Green Bay Gamblers 3 @ Cedar Rapids RoughRiders 2
The Gamblers gained a key road victory to take a 1-0 series lead against the RoughRiders. Nolan LaPorte scored his first goal of the playoffs for Green Bay 6:31 into the contest and then added his second goal a little more than three minutes later to give the Gamblers a 2-0 advantage. Tanner Pond responded with his first goal of the postseason to pull the Riders within a goal heading into the first intermission.
It seemed as if there would be no scoring in the second period until Ludwig Karlsson found the net with just a minute remaining in the frame to again put the Gamblers up by two goals.
Ryan McGrath scored his second goal of the playoffs late in the third period, but it wouldn't be enough as the Gamblers held on for the victory. Goaltender Ryan McKay made 24 saves to earn the victory.
The two clubs remained true to their regular season ways as being the least penalized in the USHL as they combined for just two penalties the entire game.
The teams now get set for Game Two which takes place in Cedar Rapids on Saturday
