Draft is underway. You can check out the "live" broadcast on the USHL's website, but it's a joke.

At the end they usually show a breakdown of the players home state. Always interesting.

A lot!!!

But the ones you are missing should be in front. Not behind!

But hey, it's a futures draft.

When my broker said he knew the future, I lost a lot of money!

Who you know or how much money you have. There is no way that every kid in the family is a Tier 1 caliber player. Sorry, don't believe it for a minute.

I look at this list and see the same last names every couple years. BS

At the USHL level the guys making the choices are getting paid by the owners. Not the parents of the players on the team. Actually this may well be the first real true yardstick of how good a group of knowledgeable hockey people think a player WILL be. Only a very small percentage will see full time action this year. A few more will be called up to play in a few games.

In the Entry draft coming up you will see players being chosen that the coaches believe will impact the performance of the team this year and next.

Guest at 10:36 - Who am I missing? What do you mean a lot? This is not some bitch fest by you and about your son or some kid you don't like.

It is a factual list (unless a name is missed) of 96 players drafted or tendered by a real life USHL team. It is simpy that whether you wish them all the best or the worst.

Anyone missing from that list beside A. Lott? I think he is an undersized forward with good speed and quick hands.

Congrats to the kids selected in the Futures Draft. It is the first time besides USA camps that the national scene has had a chance to put their money where their mouth is. Those players chosen earned it. There are also other IL kids that will go in the entry draft this year and upcoming years. Good luck in the future.

A couple things on this. There is a big difference between being selected in the Future's draft and actually playing on the USHL. Do a little checking, for many (who were selected in the Future's Draft) the history of ever playing in the USHL is not good. It is not too hard to figure out. More importantly, the claim that this is the first time that these players are evaluated by paid professional paid by the USHL teams.
Maybe. Consider this however, the "scouts" do not have the funds our time to do extensive research. Most of them are assistant coaches, etc. Therefore they depend heavily on what coaches from the respective AAA, HS, etc. organizations have to say (meaning that "daddy coaches" and other such influences come into play "AGAIN.") I have learned over the years in talking with USHL GMs, etc that Illinois AAA hockey is the worst where such references should not be trusted - and when trusted result in bad choices. In the long run, all this "stuff" sorts itself out. I have been part of this for several years. I have learned that if your player is good - they will be found. However, I am in no way slapping or congratulating the "Future Draft" selects -they have really accomplished nothing. Juniors is a very long and hard road - to be blunt "Futures Draft" is really meaningless.

Logitech,

Sounds like a very truthful statement.

Do you have any #'s or stats on how many players drafted in each round will actually play in USHL ?

Numbers

May 14 2012, 11:42 AM

Ya some numbers to back that up, I would say at least 70% of the players in the futures draft play at least 10 games at some point in the USHL. I am just speculating from experience.

I am a little confused by a few of his statements though. It is usually asst. coaches doing the scouting, so if they are not talented, and rely on coaches input, whom are not truthful or talented, what is the reason Illinois kids are playing in the USHL?

Do your own research

May 14 2012, 4:47 PM

Do your own research. Go look at the lists -they are there. BTW ... there are a ton of good players from Illinois in the USHL through their hard work and perseverance- they made it through and on to good colleges. No question about that. What I am talking about is the Future's Draft. If you bother to do a little checking you will see (1) many players drafted that never made it (2) many players drafted that were traded and never played for the team that drafted them. But hey, don't listen me - you can figure this it out on your own with a minimum amount of research.

It would appear those assistant coaches ARE pretty good at picking talent. Very nice job on the research.

Yes. The scouts and assistant coaches are doing just "fine."

A couple players listed:

Downing - on his third USHL team since originally being draft by Cedar Rapids and played just 41 games last year (means that he did not crack the starting rotation)
Dornbrock - played only 21 games (meaning not even close to the starting rotation)

Other 93's have played a couple years are now off to college.

Yep - doing just "fine"

Logitech started with lies:

"A couple things on this. There is a big difference between being selected in the Future's draft and actually playing on the USHL. Do a little checking, for many (who were selected in the Future's Draft) the history of ever playing in the USHL is not good...."

THe research shows that statement is wrong. Secondly, A few of the low number of games of preceded by hisger number the previous years. Now YOU do the research to see if these were healthy scratches or due to injury.

The bottom line is the drafted kids play. Sorry that paradigm doesn't fit into your sour grapes view.

Lack of research

May 20 2012, 7:11 AM

But I will guess injury, On the USHL team that I followed last season, there was not a single player that played in every game. Every player missed a few games due to injury. Any player that playes in all 61 games would be in the minority. Only playing in 41 games means he did not crack the starting lineup, only shows how little you know about the USHL.
