Former Marshall Hockey Player Charged with Bank Robbery

Anthony Luke Tomaino, 28, of Duluth, has been charged with robbing the U.S. Bank on Maple Grove Road, on Monday.
According a press release from the Duluth Police Department, Tomaino appeared in 6th Judicial District Court Wednesday morning on the charged of Simple Robbery, Theft, and 5th Degree Possession of a Controlled Substance.
It happened at 1:45pm on Monday. Police were called to the U.S. Bank at 2400 Maple Grove Road on a report that the bank had just been robbed. Police said no weapons were seen or implied and the suspect fled on foot with an unspecified amount of money.
He was arrested at 3:34pm in the 4800 block of Rice Lake Road.
Tomaino played hockey for Marshall until he graduated in 2000. Police said he told them he did it because he's a bad gambler, and he was attempting to get money to save his house.
Bail has been set at $75,000. Tomaino's next court appearance is September 8th.
