By Kevin Bilodeau - bio | emailNORTH CHARLESTON, SC - North Charleston, SC – The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Cail MacLean announced today that forward Joe Cucci has signed with the team and defenseman Johann Kroll has been assigned to the club by the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League.
Cucci, 25, joins the Stingrays after completing his senior season at Merrimack College where he finished third in team scoring with 36 points (14g, 22a) in 38 games. The Melrose Park, IL native led the Warriors and was tied for second in Hockey East with 10 power-play goals. In four campaigns, Cucci grabbed 32 goals and 55 assists for 87 points in 122 contests. During his freshman and sophomore seasons, Cucci was a teammate of current Stingrays forward Rob Ricci.
Kroll, 27, appeared in 15 games with the Stingrays this season recording a goal and four assists for five points. While with the Bears, the Plymouth, MN native netted two points (1g, 1a) in 21 contests. Last season, Kroll dressed in 41 games with the Stingrays earning three goals and 17 assists for 20 points and appeared in all five playoff contests acquiring three assists. Since joining the Stingrays for the 2008-09 campaign, Kroll tallied 47 points (5g, 42a) in 96 games and helped the Stingrays capture their ECHL-record third Kelly Cup championship in 2009.
