It's Been A While
The weather is warm, the pools are open and the lawn needs a weekly mowing. The line at Whit's is halfway down the block. It's been 2 1/2 months and forever since somebody in a Blue Jackets sweater was on the ice, but that's soon to change.
The annual development camp, for Blue Jackets prospects who have not yet begun their professional careers, will run from June 28 to July 2 (those are the on-ice dates) in the Ice Haus at Nationwide Arena.
The roster will grow by five or six players, or more, next weekend, when the Blue Jackets add prospects through the NHL entry draft. But this is the working "devo camp" roster as of today, listed alphabetically within positions, with draft year or how the player was acquired in parenthesis:
Goaltender (3): Mathieu Corbeil (2010), Martin Ouellette (2010), Allen York (2007).
Defense (8): Brandon Archibald (2010), Anton Blomqvist (2009), Steven Delisle (2008), Thomas Larkin (2009), Austin Madaisky (2010), Drew Olsen (2008), Dalton Prout (2010), Will Weber (2007).
Forward (15): Cam Atkinson (2008), Aaron Bogosian (camp invite), Michael Chaput (trade with Philadelphia), Sean Collins (2008), Oliver Gabriel (free agent), Jake Hansen (2007), Ryan Johansen (2010), Patrick Kennedy (camp invite), Kevin Lynch (2009), Wade MacLeod (camp invite), Matt Rust (trade with Florida), Dalton Smith (2010), Petr Straka (2010), Mike Thomas (camp invite), Trent Vogelhuber (2007).
Blue Jackets fans will get their first look at center Michael Chaput, who was acquired at last season's trade deadline for Tom Sestito. Aaron Bogosian, who finished last season with Springfield, is the brother of Winnipeg defenseman Zach Bogosian.
