We've often heard it said, and have said it ourselves....As we say the heart rending goodbye to our beloved Canine friend, "Never again."
Somewhere in Auntie's dim memory, is a reading recall in a book (Title forgotten)about grieving and coping with it upon the loss of a treasured dog.
Basically it was thus: Often the bond is so strong between Human and Dog, that it far surpasses the casual ownership of a dog. In this book, was the belief that if the soul of a newborn, fetus, or young or older dog was willing to share, the soul of the dead dog could reuninte with its beloved master by sharing this body. "Fiddlesticks" said Auntie.
Fast forward. Beloved little red Dobe, "Kahlua" went into cardio/congestive heart failure at the age of 3 &1/2& had to be destroyed. Auntie was totally devistated. Gut wrenching grief. Will I ever get OVER this she wailed. Honk in the driveway. Lost little blue puppy to turn into Dobe Rescue. No foster homes, "Would I keep her a couple of weeks?" Of course, 10 years later she's still here. The actions of this dog over her life as she mirrored almost everything Kahlua did was scary. Awww fiddlesicks said Auntie, this is just a co-inkydink.
Auntie got a call last night from a friend whose Sheltie-Service Dog was poisoned around 3-4 years ago. She's never gotten over it, even though she has 2 other Shelties. "Cooper" was one of those special dogs. He wasn't a rescue, he had a pedigree, and the main name in the pedigree was "Cooper's ect.ect."
She saved and saved and 4 years later decided to get a Sheltie puppy. She called "Cooper's" breeder, who is now breeding Goldens, alas, dead end, for she knew nobody who had any of that line. The friend Asked Auntie to go online and locate some sources for a pup. Done. She was given several names. She called one breeder who had one little boy left. Since this lady wanted the dog for a service dog she didn't pay any attention to the linage, even though the puppy was registered. She went back and forth whether she wanted the expense ect of a 3rd dog. She hemmed and hawwed about driving out East for a pup that sounded interesting. But The breeder kept hounding her to take the pup, and finally, after investigating several other pups, my friend decided to take this puppy. She immediately fell in love with the little guy, finally decided to name him "Cooper II" and for two weeks was happy in her new doting parent role. Last night at 12 midnight or so, Auntie's phone rang. In a stunned voice my fiend said, "You're never going to believe this"....Yes dear readers, she had finally gotten around to looking at the puppy's pedigree. And in that pedigree was not one, but several "Cooper's".The stud, the grandfather, grandmother, and so on.... The odds of this happening....or has her "Cooper" come back to her through this puppy? Auntie's goosebumps are the size of ostrich eggs. Coincidence?
