This works

javascript:void(document.body.background='')

Copy-paste that into your address bar and press enter. The background image will be gone. But this only does it for your computer and for the current page.

Firefox Greasemonkey can apply Javascript transformations automatically to webpages that match a pattern.

(IE7pro can also do this.)

P.S. IE7pro also works in IE6 and IE8.
