I've noticed that Animax!, which uses a CALL ABSOLUTE mouse routine (also KONG2) works OK under Windows 7. Mind you, it'll take me a while to get up the energy to dive back into GFX256 and change all the mouse calls, but I'll have to do that first, since any new programs I write will involve graphics created in a 256-color screen mode.
Since I'll have to change everything anyway, I may use CALL INTERRUPT as you suggest -- it's certainly more compatible, in general, it seems.
