Decoding as opposed to encoding a file format. Such as a bitmap loader. It has no use other than exemplifying a few techniques and applying algorithms (for educational purposes). Take a file and it spitting out in another format will work for some applications, but not for all.
Using inline assembly seems to be an option, but was curious if anybody has had experience with its limitations. I will end up having to make a C call in Ruby because it is even more limited in this area.
The ultimate goal is to allow the coder/viewer to 'see' all that is going on in the program. Using libraries hides the implementation which is what I am trying to avoid.
Thanks for the response.
