This is a true story as related to me by my brother that happened around the summer of 1990.
Bill was part of a field crew that was clearing some land near the Cimmaron River just north of Cushing, Oklahoma. They had gotten out brush cutters and circled a dense area that smelled as though there was a dead horse inside.
As soon as the motors started something big took off running toward thr river. Bill said it was bigger than a man and was running upright. The fourth member of their party, Joe, was standing on a path between the thicket and the river, attempting to start his engine, when he was ran over by this creature. Joe said it was between 7 & 8 feet tall, covered with hair, although almost bare at the chest. He had only just looked up when he was knocked down, so he didn't get a good look at the face.
The others picked Joe up who now smelled rank like the area did and ran back to their trucks. Their Supervisor went back down with them the next day and they found a bed of tree limbs and leaves and a couple of foot prints. Bulldozers were called in after that to clear the area.
Bill had asked the landowner previously for permission to hunt, and he was told to stay away from the river, now he knows why.
