Sd.Kfz.7/1 In NormandyApril 21 2009 at 10:47 AM

On an impulse, I went ahead and ordered the Dragon Sd.Kfz.7/1 2cm Flakvierling 38 auf Selbstfahrlafette, thinking that I could build it as a 12SS example. After perusing my main references though, I'm beginning to think that summer 1944 could be a bit of a stretch for this version with the unarmoured cab.
I do have a couple of orders of battle on hand for the 1944 panzer regiment organization that are illustrated with silhouettes of the unarmoured version but I'm beginning to have my doubts on their accuracy as the armoured cab version seems more plausible.
Can anyone confirm the existance of the unarmoured version in Normandy and if so, with what unit?

I've seen photos of them with the above unit just before Normandy, so it seems highly likely that they were involved in June-Sept.

503 had one in Normandy..

HI Chris, on page 213 of Ruckmarsch there is a side on shot of one that is allegedly from 503 in Normandy, and in 3 color camo. It has a white marking visible 'FL'
It looks like the unarmoured version, but I dare say it would be the late version with the entire flak vierling base mount, not the early one with the pivot only, like DML give you in their kit.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the tip about this photo. It's definitely the unarmoured version as opposed to the armoured one, as evidenced by the bit of body work we can see on the right side of the photo. At the very least it's evidence that the unarmoured version did serve in Normandy.
