Isn't just the best feeling when you get a new horse? The thrill learning all the new things that they do (or you don't want them to do), working out new ways to improve them (or stay on!) - and getting to know their personality and little intracies.
I've just got a new one a week ago and even though I've got way too many anyway, I still love getting new ones. The whole world seems really rosey when you get a new horse (or have a good ride).
What's the best thing you like about getting a new horse?
Aren't you lucky!
I love getting to know them, the way they react once they know they can trust you, the first time you know they recognized you and come to the gate to greet you.
Oh, I make them pretty...;-)
well the last few "new additions" here were rescues and in desperate need of de-knotting manes and tails, de-licing, worming, washing, wound/injury management, trims, feeding and what have you.
It is just such a thrill to slowly see a happier and healthier animal appear. Once the condition is restored they start showing their personality. And that is always the next surprise after restoring the outside. So far it has always been a pleasure to finally "meet them" and getting them to respond to care- and I guess- respect (with a lot of love).
I have never been disappointed, all my equines are the most loving creatures I can imagine.
If I could, I would do this for the rest of my life... but then again - I would need more land and helpers and money.....
I am sure they will all live another 50 years and I will never have room for a "new", let alone "serious" horse......
But what the hack.....or heck?
There are those of us who bring on the promising youngsters and those of us who just can't look away and use common sense...... but both is rewarding, isn't it?

I have been thinking of rescuing a horse and that little story was lovely. Makes me want to do it more, well good luck to you with your horse. Sounds promising.
My favourite thing about getting a new horse is when they raise their head when they hear you enter the barn and give you a little nicker when you say their name : ) It makes you feel just as special as you try to make them feel.
