have a look at the thread "How to teach an old horse new tricks" by Meg. It's on page 5 at the moment (second last), dated 25th of August 2000. I have attempted to explain how to teach the horse to go "down and out" - or "long and low" - (whatever you like)which would be what you are asking, I believe.
