horse physiotherapy

October 12 2003 at 2:28 PM

In the search for resolution of my horse's girth sensitivity issues, my friend, human physio & currently completing masters in animal physio, came and did a complete physio work up on him: movement analysis, photos, short video and muscle exploration from muzzle to tail.
Interesting the most discomfort/muscle knots were in his rump, not shoulder/wither as we expected to find.
so I have homework of twice daily stretches and pole/cavaletti work to strengthen back & tummy (his & maybe mine too!). One week showed promising improvement. We may find a need for chiropractic adjustment under those tight muscles but in the meantime these simple exercises are certainly helping and the discovery of this back pain explains sooo many other things - and I (& others more experienced than me) thought he was just difficult.
Hope this is helpful to someone else.
Sonia

hi, this might sound really cheeky but I am currently making my A level choices and when I am older I would like to pursue a career as an animal physiotherapist specialising in horses. Is there any way you can find out what choices your friend made at A level and where she studied, please this would be very useful to me, thank you sooooo much, pls feel free to e-mail me on pink_soda005@hotmail.com, thanks again, Steph Bedford

Hi,
if you use other words/phrases like "equine tactile therapy", "equine massage" or the like , you may be able to find more info on courses. There are plenty of courses, Australian and overseas that will give you qualification as "horse-physio" (as in "tactile therapist").
Good luck to you

(here is just one link to an Australian college:
