Does your horse snatch?

October 27 2003 at 9:51 AM

Hi everybody, I'm doing a little research on the topic of head snatching, because I have a nine year old KWPN who started snatching last year with no particular reasons and without any consistency... He's usually fine, and even when he is snatching it's not something that makes the ride impossible (except for some rare occasions) but it makes it a lot more difficult. If anyone else has a horse, or is riding a horse who displays this kind of behavior, could you either reply to this post or email me at Devilindap@aol.com. Thanks!

"Snatching" can have numerous reasons, but - most likely- will be related to discomfort of some kind.
It may be the bit itself, the bridle fit, the rider's hands or some other pain issue elsewhere in the body.
"Naughtyness" usually has its origine in discomfort - but has not been addressed by us because we misunderstood the behavior when first displayed.

Have a read here, you might find some interesting clues:

Good luck
